Kosty Ivanof had a great racing career up here in New England. For
awhile he was the dominant car at New England, Connecticut, and Lebanon
Valley. As early as ‘74 he was pounding out 6.30s and by ‘75 was a
consistent low 6.20 car. Kosty wasn't afraid to lean on it and many a pass
was punctuated by piston smoke in the eyes. He and usually one other crew
member would bust their humps and change pistons in 90 minutes, come right
back and rip off another great run. I guess his career NHRA highlight was
being low qualifier at the Winters (‘78?) one year with a 6.06, I think.
His biggest match race triumph came at the ‘75 New England Funny Car
Nats, defeating a 32-car field including a pretty good tussle with
"Jungle" in the final.
