Here I come, ready or not. Remember that game?
I could hear the hum from the hydraulic motor on the tubing bender. The
clattering noise and ringing sound of the tubing being pulled from the
rack and placed in the die forms was music to my ears, if I had any ears.
The humming became louder, and the first tubes were formed. My first tubes
are placed in the jig to set my length and width. Boy, my front axle is
really out there. But why so wide? Oh yes, Dale's about 55 pounds heavier
than back in the old days. Must be Sally's good cooking, huh?
Here comes that big block Chevy. Does that thing ever feel good being
placed right onto the firewall mounting studs! Some things sure are
starting to feel familiar. Look at that rear housing! No old castings for
me. How about a shiny new fabricated nine inch Ford? Boy the heat from all
this welding sure feels good on a cold winter's day. Jeez, enough of me is
in place to at least look like a dragster. S&W is doing a great job.

What's next? Oh, I'll need the full floaters and front and rear wheels.
What the heck is all that noise? Good grief, look who's here, that bunch
of bone heads. The crew and Dale. Hey Dale, if you weren't so wide we
could have used some of my old body panels. Maybe I shouldn't pick on
Dale; the day will come when he takes me down those quarter mile tracks
again. In fact, I'd better not call the guys bone heads. What if they
load me up for a five second run? I could hurt myself. I'd better look
good; I see they brought some of the wives along.
Just listen to them. They're talking like they know what I need to
finish myself. Why don't they ask me? Yes, you can use the upper water
pump holes for my front engine mounts. I talked to Fred at Arias and he
told me those holes are in an aluminum billet block. Jeez, when were they
born, back in the Stone Age? Now look bone h----, er guys, you will paint
me black again won't you?
What the heck was that -- not a blower explosion already? Oh no, just
the flash from the camera. Don't tell me they are actually taking pictures
this time around. Maybe they did learn something over those years while I
