Drag Racing Story of the Day!

A Goggles Story, or Use the Proper Chute

By Randy Bradford

Ok, a goggles story...

A friend of ours, Jack Alexander, ran a little Chevy powered digger. He wanted us to try a cargo chute that he had CUT DOWN and run on his 140-mph dragster. We ran 176 mph with the injected motor and when I pulled the (cut down) chute, it hit so hard that the back of the car picked up about a foot off the ground!

The leather facemask with the goggles attached moved about six inches away from my face. When the elastic snapped them back, they were about three inches lower. Here is the question: which hand do ya let go so you can pull the mask up to see, the steering wheel or the brake? After letting go of the brake, I got the mask up enough to see and got it stopped. I had black and blue belt marks for weeks. Moral of the story: "Use the proper chute."
