WOODBURN: CHAMBERLIN SETS MPH RECORD IN AA/SUPERCHARGED, OWEN GETS WIN

At the 38th Annual NAPA Auto Parts Oldies But Goodies at Woodburn Dragstrip (Woodburn, OR.), there was a final round matchup between the quickest and fastest AA/Supercharged in the nation. Troy Owen and the Dave’s Rod Shop sponsored ’41 Willys, which last year set the all-time low E.T. record at a 6.450, was one half of the final. Opposite him was Mitch Chamberlin, who earlier in the weekend blasted to a 218.23mph (backed up with a 217.49mph pass) to reset the speed record. A high-drama final round found a way to be even more so as after the semi-final’s, Chamberlin discovered a broken clutch lever! Using up all of the time allowed, they were able to throw together a makeshift lever. Unfortunately, it was unable to hold together in the final as Owen blasted to a 6.565 at 215.56, while Chamberlin slowed to a 7.885 at 148.61.
