MARION, Texas (September 25, 2015) – The San Antonio Nationals Fueled by Sunoco brought about some surprising results on day one of the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Nitro Jam event. The AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive and Jet Dragster classes secured their spots while the Outlaw Fuel Altereds and Pro Stock have one more round of qualifying tomorrow.
The AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive locked up their eight-car field and sent two drivers home. Mike McIntire Jr. who sits second in the point standings before heading into San Antonio was among those not securing a spot in tomorrow’s eliminations, along with Bob Godfrey. Paul Romine took the top spot with a 5.70 at 248.07 mph run followed by John Smith, Mark Sanders and Jason Rupert.
In Jet Dragster competition, Kat Moller qualified in the number one spot with a 5.76 at 275.40 mph pass. Marisha Falk, Elaine Larsen and Shea Holbrook rounded out the top-four and will run in round two and final eliminations tomorrow at San Antonio Raceway.
The Pro Stock class completed two rounds of qualifying and Cary Goforth currently leads as he ran a quick lap of 6.31 at 222.44 mph on the quarter-mile. Current points leader John Montecalvo sits in the second spot and Kevin Bealko in third. Their third and final round will take place at 2 p.m. tomorrow. The Outlaw Fuel Altered class will also complete their final round of qualifying tomorrow. Terry Brown is the quickest as he had a 3.86 at 164.35 mph pass against 14 other competitors.
Tomorrow will include a final round of qualifying for select classes and three rounds of eliminations for the San Antonio Nationals Fueled by Sunoco and Bracket racing throughout the day. Bracket time trials start at 10:30 a.m. and pre-race ceremonies for Nitro Jam eliminations is at 4:45 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate and online. Each ticket includes free pit access.
