Pirrone Racing Taps Joe Morrison to Shoe ‘Super Camaro’ Nitro Funny Car

Right2Breathe - SuperCamaro

Flemington, NJ – New Jersey Nostalgia Drag Racer and co-founder of The Right2Breathe™ Project Joe Morrison has been selected to join the stable of licensed nitro drivers Rocky Pirrone, Bobby Toth and Jim Gifford of Pirrone Racing as they kick off their ‘Nitro Funny Car Showdown’ match-race series in 2016. Morrison will take the reins of The Super Camaro; a replica of the original 1970 Camaro-bodied Nitro Funny Car owned and piloted by the late Perry Wyatt.

Since 2001, Morrison has competed primarily on the East Coast near his home in Flemington, New Jersey with his popular bright yellow 1948 Fiat Topolino Injected Alcohol Altered. This past year, he successfully upgraded his competition license to the NHRA A/Fuel Dragster division under the tutelage of Jerry Darien and drove Ted Brine’s 1934 Fuel Coupe. His addition to the Pirrone Racing team gives Morrison the opportunity to continue to expand his driving portfolio while helping to raise awareness of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) through is Right2Breathe™ Campaign.

"Pirrone Racing is excited to welcome Joe Morrison to our stable of talented drivers of the Super Camaro and Frantic Ford Nostalgia Funny Cars," noted team owner Rocky Pirrone. "Our team now has four very talented and passionate licensed drivers who will share seat time during our 2016 ‘Nitro Funny Car Showdown’ tour. Joe brings a wealth of racing experience, is a multi-time NETO championship winner along with experience in driving an NHRA Nitro A/Fuel Dragster and Ted Brine’s AA/FA. We’re also proud to help him raise awareness of the Right2Breathe™ Project which we hope will help educate people about the third-largest cause of death in the world – COPD."

“I’m so thankful to Rocky, Al, and Bobby Frey for the opportunity to drive for them. The Super Camaro is an awesome ride,” added Morrison. “Between driving the funny car, Ted’s #134 Fuel Coupe, and my Fiat altered, 2016 will be a busy year. I can’t wait.”

Pirrone Racing along with Al Liebmann will campaign the Super Camaro and Frantic Ford in 2016. Like the Super Camaro, the Frantic Ford is a re-creation originally owned by Jim Fox and driven by Ron Rivero. Both cars are topped with period looking fiberglass bodies with all the latest safety equipment making them legal to run at all NHRA & IHRA tracks. These cars are set to match race one another this coming year at tracks up and down the East Coast and in the Midwest including the Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, Kentucky, and the York Reunion. Long Smokey burnouts, dry hops, and big header flames will be part of the show to give race fans a taste of what it was like during the golden era in drag racing.

The Right2Breathe™ Project is a non-profit organization based in New Jersey, created by Morrison and Tim Charlet who have a personal mission to improve the quality of life for those that live with respiratory difficulty, illness or disease. They are dedicated to educating the automotive and motorsports community about pulmonary or respiratory medical conditions through a cause marketing campaign including but not limited to; Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Asthma & Allergies, Cystic Fibrosis, Influenza, Lung Cancer and Mesothelioma.
