The Funny Car Fever Nostalgia Reunion event at Sacramento Raceway on April 2-3is part of the 2016 NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series. The NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Racing Series was developed in 2008 to help preserve NHRA’s rich history and tradition while providing racing opportunities for those enthusiasts who enjoy nostalgia drag racing competition. Sacramento Raceway has been an NHRA Member Track since 1970 and has been part of the series since its inception in 2008. Racers are competing for $30,000 Cash, NHRA Wallys and Heritage Series Points for racers in Groups 1 & 2.
This year’s event will include Nostalgia Funny Cars along with the Saturday Night Nostalgia Nitro Cackle Fire which is sure to be a hit with fans in attendance. All Cackle Fire cars will fire up via a push start and make a pass down the famed quarter mile dragstrip. Cackle Fire Cars will include: Masters & Richter a 1963 replica Record Holder AA front engine dragster and Waterman & Hampshire a 1960’s replica Record Holder AA front engine dragster along with Iron Horse, The Vagabonds, The Varmit and several more.
Other Top Fuel Funny Cars that will be competing: Woman veteran drag racer “ Nitro Kitty” Mendy Fry driving Larry Alleman’s 1978 Challenger Nitro Funny Car “Smokey’s Dark Side.” Her record best is 5.97 seconds in the quarter mile at 236.46 mph which earned her first Nitro win at the Famoso Raceway’s Good Vibrations Saturday Night Nitro Event in 2015.
