YORK SPRINGS, PA – The sixteenth annual York US30 Dragway reunion will be held in conjunction with the Second Edition York Nostalgia Weekend at the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing and the historic Latimore Valley Fairgrounds on July 7-8, 2017, all part of York US30 Heritage Days.
The event features a World Champions Weekend with Dave Strickler Day on Friday, July 7th paying tribute to Dave Strickler of York, PA who was crowned Super Stock World Champion during his storied career. Dave passed on at an early age but his memory lives on with the Old Reliable Chevrolets from the renowned Ammon R. Smith Auto Co. dealership at 201 Carlisle Avenue. His many contributions to the sport of drag racing will be highlighted and remembered during this special event and his wife Susan and the Strickler family will be honored during the festivities.
Another highlight of the event will be the celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the World Championships achieved by George Cureton and Ed Miller at the NHRA World Finals at Tulsa, Oklahoma in 1967. Cureton from Bear, Delaware and Miller from Chesapeake, Virginia will be on hand with individual displays of their achievements during their racing careers and displaying one of their race cars.
Other legends of drag racing to join the event will be Arnie “The Farmer” Beswick along with one of his outstanding “Flying Farmer” entries. Ohio “George” Montgomery famous for his Malco gassers and Al Joniec renowned for his potent Ford race cars will conduct an engine seminar from 10 a.m. until noon on Saturday. Bruce Larson and his USA-1 Camaro, Bob McClurg of Super Stock & Drag Illustrated fame plus a host of others.
The annual Legion of Honor awards will be presented at 5 p.m. on Friday to nine deserving recipients, to be announced on February 10th.
The annual Glory Days cruise-in will be held at the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Fairlane Club of America will present a special display at the Fairgrounds on Friday.
The weekend concludes on Sunday, July 9th with the presentation of the York Nostalgia Nationals at Beaver Springs Dragway in Beaver Springs, PA.
