Update 5/2017 – Remembering Leo Dunn – dragster restoration

This Saturday, May 11th, we are going over to work on the dragster.

The photos I attached with this update are at my cousin Mike’s request for photos before the twin rear-engine dragster was painted. These are the only two photos I have. I write what I know about the photo in the description of the attachment. What’s really cool is that this is the only time this dragster ran without paint, and I have photos from two different photographers that day, Jim Phillipson, and Sonny Jackson. There is also a video of it from Jamie Jackson in the video he produced named, Remembering Leo Dunn. It’s a very cool video.

Taking the dragster out of the trailer after more than twenty years went just as smooth as possible. We, not me, put it in my cousin Tommy’s trailer and took it to the shop in Napa where it will be restored. It was pretty emotional. I put lots of photos on Facebook.

I am looking for someone who can look at my dad’s racecar trailer for an estimate to restore it too. I would like to get an idea if the trailer is in good enough condition to restore.

The engines are machined, and done by Clay Twigg the new owner of Joe’s Engine Shop, and Joe Ortega. The engines are now sitting next to the dragster where they belong, and soon will be back in it. Thank you again Clay and Joe for all your time, and hard work. We all posted lots of photos on Facebook.

The t-shirt company for the Remembering Leo Dunn t-shirt is busy creating a work of art for us fans of my dad’s racecars. I have more than 50 promised orders so far. I think it’s going to turn out great. They have t-shirts, long sleeve, tank tops, onsies, sweatshirts, jackets, and more, in youth, men, and women’s.

My webpage is so close to being done, I can feel it. – rememberingleodunn.com. I have such a knowledge deficit on how to do it, so frustrating.

If you would like to help in any way with this restoration, I would be more than happy to include you. Please let me know. My husband Chris, my cousin Tommy Adams, his son Brandon Adams, my cousin Mike Summerlot, and our friend Dennis Holtz have their plan in mind for what’s next. I will keep everyone who wants to be included updated.

Please feel free to forward this email. I know there are a few large email groups for the racers going around.

Remember our plan is to have this dragster ready to cackle at this year’s CHRR. It’s usually held the 3rd weekend of October, and is located in Bakersfield. I hope we are allowed to bring this dragster to the CHRR. I have heard about the problems with last year, and I’m also hearing that there are not that many rear engine racecars there. I also hope we will be able to cackle it there. I will be following up more on this. There are many other places we can go. Sure hope you can join us.
