York 2018: The Glory Days of Drag Racing Relived

YORK SPRINGS, PA – One of the best-kept secrets is the Eastern Museum of Motor Racing located in York Springs Pennsylvania not by design but with the tremendous amount of motorsports activities occurring in the South Eastern Pennsylvania area it is easy for this​ ​diamond in the rough to be overlooked.

The museum features sprint car racing from the early days and a drag racing area that has a history of the glory days on display and a vast display of icons and legends that headline drag racing on any given day. Displays include Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins the number 8 driver in NHRA’s Top Fifty and includes number 17 “Jungle Jim” Liberman. A who’s, who includes Jere Stahl, Jim and Alison Lee, Charlie Seabrook, Linda Vaughn, “Pee Wee” Wallace, Joe Jacono, George Weiler, Frank LeSueur, Ron Wallace, Ken Montgomery, Sox & Martin, Malcolm Durham, Bruce Larson, Larry Lombardo, Tom Raley along with two additional legends “Ohio George” Montgomery and Hubert Platt to be added at the York US30 Heritage Days from July 20-21st at EMMR and the Latimore Valley Fairgrounds.

In attendance at York US30 Heritage Days will be Al Joniec signing his new book authored by Charlie Morris who will likewise appear with him. Legends Don Glover, Jack Redd, Wally Bell, and Carol “Bunny” Burkett will join a host of others to celebrate the 17th consecutive York US 30 Dragway Reunion. The event has been dedicated to Bruce Larson and USA-1 for their unconditional support of this historic event.

On Sunday activity switches to the annual York Nostalgia Nationals at Beaver Springs Dragway with activities getting underway at 8 a.m. Many of the legendary race cars and drivers will pay tribute to the world famous York US30 Dragway in Thomasville, PA that ceased operations at the end of the 1979 season. On July 23rd the York Nostalgia memories will be another entry into the archives of this momentous glory days weekend.
