Notes: This car was introduced in mid-'67 as Dick Harrell's new roadster, with driving duties to be shared with partner Jim Guthrie. It boasted a Hilborn-injected 427 semi-hemi with a 4-speed trans in a 2" diameter round-tube chassis manufactured by Edco Brake Co. The jazzed-up Chevy II roadster body was all-glass, but not a flip-top. Photos show the one-piece fenders-hood assembly removed for access to the engine. The impressive-looking car got favorable coverage at roll-out, then promptly disappeared from the monthly hot rod press. (At rollout and initial test runs car had no sponsor indicated, but had "Dick Harrell" as primary signage on rear fenders with driver Guthrie's name in smaller script behind the front wheelwell. - RT |

Notes: Jim was driving this car at Milan, Michigan, on June 23 for a UDRA Circuit race. Joe Amato's Corvair got out of shape in the first round, and Guthrie won easily. In the semifinal, he lost to eventual winner Al Fontanini. He ran a best of 8.80/162.16 there. | This car was introduced in mid-'67 as Dick Harrell's new roadster, with driving duties assigned to partner Jim Guthrie. It boasted a Hilborn-injected 427 semi-hemi with a Turbo-Hydro trans in a 2" diameter round-tube chassis. The jazzed-up Chevy II roadster body was all-glass, but not one-piece and not a flopper. Photos show the one-piece fenders-hood assembly removed for access to the engine. The impressive-looking car got favorable coverage at roll-out, then promptly disappeared from the monthly hot rod press. - RT |

Notes: Haven't seen a photo of this car from 1969, but this would've been the former Dickie Harrell roadster that Guthrie drove from 1967 on. "Yenko Super Camaro" mentioned here, if on the door, must've referred to that hi-po dealer's product, as this car was a Chevy II. Guthrie apparently leased Ron Pellegrini's Buick Super Bird later in the year before moving to a more traditional Camaro. - RT |

Notes: 62 Plymouth Back-65 Dodge I am the original owner of the Half Breed. I purchased the car in 1962 from McNeil-Stanley Chrysler Plymouth on Atlantic Blvd in East Los Angeles. My father "Pete" Everett was the Service Manager at the time and I worked the Lube Rack and new car get ready while attending college. It was a 1962 White Sport Fury Plymouth with the 410hp Max Wedge Package. In stock condition with the headers open (the cast iron headers were replaced with a set of Doug's Headers - the car was used to make the first set of Doug's headers for the Max Wedge engine) and 10 inch slicks, the car ran 13.06/106.91 at Lions Drag Strip in Long Beach, Ca. Careful inspection of the photo will show that the rear wheel openings were enlarged and recontoured to match the original look. Over the course of the next 2 years, a CT Stroker Crank was installed, increasing the displacement to 468ci and a special fabbed aluminum secondary manifold was added to the top of the cross ram manifold to accommodate a 3rd Carter 4 barrel carburetor. I have all of the old time slips and pictures and will dig them out and submit the additional info for your inspection. In 1965 I was drafted and went to Vietnam for 2 years. Leroy Hales and I went to Montebello High together and he worked at my dad's garage and gas station while attending SC College. He took over driving the car when I left. While I was gone, the engine broke and was replaced with a Keith Black Hemi, the front end was replaced with a lightweight Dodge Aluminum Front End and the roll bar was added with the top removed. This is the car seen in the pictures. I still have many of the parts from the original car (Heads, etc.) and a few years ago I purchased another white 1962 Plymouth Fury. I am slowly rebuilding it as a close clone of my original Plymouth. My dad, "Pete" passed away in May 2007. - Bill Everett |
