Notes: The car ran injected fuel, gas other times. Bob Harrop was one of the factory-sponsored full-time drivers in the 1965 AWB program. This car was raced extensively on the east coast that year. Its main claim to fame was winning the Top Stock Heads Up crown at the Super Stock Nationals on August 7/1965. Note the sagging rear quarters resulting from acid-dipping the whole body by AeroChem in California before the cars were constructed. Harrop made radical modifications to it during the 1965/66 offseason, including an engine setback. On its inaugural run in a match race with Eddie Schartman at the 1966 Cecil County season opener, it was destroyed. Harrop bought the former Ramchargers AWB to finish off the season. York PA 1965 (8/20/65 National Dragster), Gary IN 1965 (10/10/65 Drag News), Charleston PA (9/25/65 Drag News). |

Notes: Injected fuel AWB. This is Harrop's second car in 1966. Harrop crashed first 1966 entry at Cecil County in early May, rolling it several times and totaling it. He then drove Al Graeber's new "Tickle Me Pink" Charger until he landed this car, the former "Ramchargers" 1965 Dodge. Aquasco MD 1966 (9/30/66 Drag World) |

Notes: The Corvair was introduced mid-season. Steel shell (photos show open windshield wiper holes and cowl vents, aluminum over taillight area) with one-piece lift-off glass front end. Square-tube frame, coil-sprung straight tube axle. 2,160 pounds. 427, Hilborn injectors, stock bottom end. Late-model Pontiac rear, 3.90:1 gears. "We Love Our Corvair" script across the "grill," a jab at Corvair-hater Ralph Nader. Quoted times from initial runs, per SS&DI 1/67 feature. | Also 9.00 at Kinston (10/21/66 Drag News) and 153.84 mph at Monrovia (10/01/66 Drag Times). | Injected fuel, 115" Howell chassis. Del ran the car the rest of 1966 into 1967. When Heinelt left Seaton in 1967, Jay Howell drove this, eventually adding a blower to it. The car was sold later in 1967 to Chip & Howdy Bartlett, who ran the car through 1968. An Irwindale ad late in 1966 says the car ran 8.80/160, though they tended to round off numbers for the ads. Del was at Cecil County on Sept. 3 for a beat of three match race against Roger Lindamood's "Color Me Gone" Charger. The Dodge broke, so Tom Prock filled in with his fuel-burning Willys. In the first race, the Corvair's 9.86/144.69 lost to the Willys' 9.73/141. But Heinelt came back to win the next two races and the match with times of 9.47/148.76 and 9.58/147.54. The next day he was at Aquasco for a match against Cecil Yother in the "Melrose Missile." This was not a good day for the Chevy fans as he lost two straight. An 11.03/144 lost to Cecil's 9.67/151 in the first race, and he fouled in the second, running 10.13/148.76 in a loss to Yother's 9.76/142. Lindamood got a rematch on Sept. 16 at 75/80, and he beat the Chevy two straight. |

Notes: Injected fuel AWB. They ran this car in 1965, too. This car was destroyed at Detroit on May 7/1966. They built a new Chevelle shortly after, and ran it until they debuted a Corvair later in the year. - DD | Del was at Irwindale on March 6 for a best of three match race against Charlie Allen. He lost two straight to Allen's Dart when in the first race he got crossed up and shut off in the first race, and in the second race, the Chevelle broke. He was runner-up to Dick Harrell at the Bakersfield March Meet in the 2,600 lb. Funny Car class. Heinelt had run as well as 10.14/140.18 while beating Kelly Chadwick's 10.33/133. In the final, his 10.41/139.36 lost to Harrell's 9.98/145. On April 13, Del was at Capitol for a match race against Ronnie Sox. Unfortunately, he lost three straight. He faced off against the "Ramchargers" Dart at Lakeland in April for another best of three match. There, he took the match two straight. In the first race, the "Ramchargers" driver, Jim Thornton fouled, but in the second race, Del outran the mighty Dodge. Detroit MI 5/66 (5/13/66 Drag World) |

Notes: Injected fuel AWB. A&A fiberglass Chevelle parts. After crashing the first Chevelle at Detroit in May (the 1965 car), they built this and ran it until they debuted the Corvair later in the year. The Chevelle and the Corvair were sold to Howdy & Chip Bartlett in 1967. Flyin' Phil Elliott believes Heinelt ran an 8.95 with this car. Very plausible.
