Notes: In mid-November 1967 Manion was injured when his transmission tailshaft broke and thrashed the cockpit during a match race with Dick Harrell. He recovered and raced until his retirement in 1969. The '67 Bear-A-Cuda flopper was an injected Logghe-chassis car that replaced the Sites Bros.' earlier steel-shelled '66 Skootin' Cuda racecar. - RT |

Notes: George Britting was an engineer, he believed flex was lost HP, hence the nickname "Britting Bridge". History will determine whether he was correct. Billy Williams as an example. Off track obviously, here is the Britting car of D.W. Marellus. I wish I could have seen what Jimmy Adams could have accomplished in this combo given time. The crack of the throttle of a Jimmy Adams engine combo was music to my ears. Richad Shute |

Notes: The well-named "Funny Car" was one of the first funny cars to race in Texas. Tom McCroan owned and raced the car out of his car lot in Garland, Texas. The match bash Mopar featured an injected 426 Hemi on nitro. The "Funny Car" was a regular at Green Valley and in match races across Texas. The strange thing about the "Funny Car" was number of drivers who drove it. Tom McCroan drove the car, as did his wife Gladys McCroan. Raefel Shields and Brent Musgrave also drove "The Funny Car." The Mopar ran high nines at best on the cow pasture tracks of Texas. (Photo courtesy Flyin' Phil Elliott). |

Notes: Fuel injected. 1999% sure this is actually Tom McCroan. This was a standard wheelbase car. He later AWB'd the car and called it "The Funny Car" in 1966. When he came out with a glass Mustang in 1967, he went back to the name "Long Gone." - DD Original pre-Internet draglist entry. Listed times from (Drag News) |

Notes: Tom ran 9.56 at Green Valley Raceway over the Memorial Day weekend for the AHRA Grand American race. Injected fuel AWB. Car was also driven by Raefel Shields and his wife, Gladys Shields. There is some confusion about whether it was Gladys McCroan or Gladys Shields that drove; it seems to be Shields. Green Valley TX 1966 times of 9.77/142.18 per (6/24/66 Drag News). |

Notes: We need someone to confirm this entry; it may be incorrect. Following his "She-Devil" '65 Mustang McDuell purchased Ray Gallagher's "Super Bear" '68 (not '66) Barracuda funny. But dated photos indicate Gallagher was still running that car in '68. - RT |

Notes: Class designation of A/FX reflects what is shown on the car, although as an altered wheelbase car, it no longer qualified for strict A/FX rules. Brother Bill also drove. |

Notes: In May, Steve was at York US 30 with his flip-top SOHC-powered Mustang for an eighteen car show. In the first round, his 8.61/165.13 beat Chip Barlett's out-of-shape Corvair. He received the "odd-lot" solo in round two and ran another 8.61 at 161.57. Steve faced "Jungle Jim" Liberman in the semifinal, and the car faded to a 9.84 that lost to JJ's Nova at 8.27/142. |

Notes: Injected fuel here. Also ran on gas. - Dennis Doubleday. | I have photos of the build process and the original paint scheme when the car had a 396 in it. The 427 came out of his Corvette. The 427 had an one of a kind fuel injection system and my father's ties to GM were so strong it featured a prototype cam build just for my father's car. I also have some old photos of him racing it and some old newspaper clippings. - Matthew McLean 12/66 (12/30/66 Drag News) |
