Notes: Hubert Platt was known as the "Georgia Shaker" even though he was from the Carolinas. Platt was a moonshine runner before taking on racing. By 1964, Platt was a full time racer with the Dickie Walter sponsored "Iowa Shaker" '65 Falcon. Platt was well known for his Fords and his open door burnouts. Hubert's brother Huston also raced early funny cars, but Huston ran Chevys. Platt quit funny cars to go back to Super Stock and later raced Pro Stock. Hubert retired from racing in 1977. Notes: Injected fuel. 118" AWB, stretched nose. Hubert was at Southeastern International for a best of three match against Bobby Woods, blown Chevelle early in the season. The Chevy failed to fire in the first race, and Platt ran 10.61 to take the first win. The Mustang went into a wheelstand in the second race, and Hubert shut off. Woods ran a 10.17 for the win. Hubert still wanted to make his run, so he backed up, and the starter restarted the tree, and he ran 10.14. In the final race, the Mustang got out of shape, and Platt backed out of it while Woods reset the track record with a 9.58 for the win. Hubert ran 10.21/139.10 at Lions per 1/14/166 Drag News. |

Notes: On August 19, Platt was driving Dick Brannan's Mustang at Dragway 42 for the NASCAR Summer Championships. He had a good day as he started his run to the final by beating Billy McDuell with a 9.25/158.45. In the semifinals, another 9.18 at 158.73 beat Bud Faubel. He faced Pete Gates in the former Don Nicholson Comet in the final. Hubert took the win with a 9.25/157.61 over Gates' 9.37/149. Hubert had a good weekend in September. He was at a match race at Detroit on the 10th where he ran 8.59/158.17 to beat Maynard Rupp. He then beat Cecil Yother in a best of three on the same day still at Detroit. The following day (September 11), he beat his brother Huston two straight at Aquasco running times of 8.68/162.16 and 8.63/164.83 to win the match. |

Notes: Won A/XS at the 67 Winternationals. Also, set the A/XS record at 8.61/171.10 at Phenix City, Alabama, on 4/01/67. Hubert started his season at Houston on January 15 for a best-of-three-match race against Don Gay's "Infinity" GTO. Late in '66, Platt set the track record at 8.48, so he hoped to improve on it. The Mustang's brakes failed in the first race, and he could not stage the car. Gay made an easy solo for the win. After fixing the brakes, the two came out for their second race, and Platt was late off the line. Although he reset the track record with an 8.45, he lost to the Pontiac's 8.55. Platt ran really well at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He ran in A/XS, and he ran a best of 8.49/171.42. He was to race Dick Loehr's similar Mustang for class honors, but Loehr's car broke. Hubert was at Lakeland on March 5 for a best two out of three match race against Eddie Schartman. Platt won the first race with a 9.59/159.01 to Ed's 9.72/151, but Schartman came back to win the next two races and the match. Platt had fouled in both remaining races running a best of 8.82/162.74. Another match race was run at Detroit on March 12 against Roger Lindamood's "Color Me Gone" Charger. Hubert won this match two straight with a best of 9.12/168. At the end of April (30), he ran Lew Arrington's "Brutus" at Aquasco and beat him two straight with runs of 8.39/166.97 and 8.74/161.57. Holman-Moody chassis? |

Notes: Bill Thomas fastback was 1 of 3 built. On June 4, Huston faced Phil Bonner at Atco for a best of five match race. Platt lost the match, but he ran well. In the first race, his 9.64/144 lost to Phil's 9.28/148. He won the second race with a 9.60/142, but Bonner came back to win the next two races and the match. Platt's best time was a 9.49/144 in the last race. Platt made a lot of Chevy fans happy on August 28 when he beat Ed Skelton's newly Cammer-powered Mustang three straight at Paradise Drag Strip. It was a 1,000-foot track, and Huston won with times of 7.62, 7.85, and 7.59. In a best-of-three-match race, Huston lost to his brother Hubert at Aquasco on September 11. Hubert won two straight over his brother's Nova. In the first round, the Mustang's 8.68/162 beat Huston's early shut-off 9.58/144.00. The Chevy broke a crankshaft in the second race, and Hubert won the match with an 8.63/164. |
