Notes: Gene was at Miami-Hollywood in February for its Winter Championships. The car was running an injected 427 wedge. It was a twelve-car show, and in the opening round, his 8.65/163.33 beat Jack Broulliard's Camaro. In round two, his 8.57/155.97 beat Ed Skelton. Al Fontanini failed to fire against him in the semi-final, so he advanced at 11.34. He faced the "Mimi-Brute" of Jack Ditmars in the final, and his 8.48/163.63 finished second best to the Opel's 8.36/172. The car was a Hilborn injected funny car. Gene never ran a blower. He also ran this car with an injected Ford SOHC. |

Notes: Fuel-injected, AWB car. Al Eckstrand normally drove in 1965, but Dallafior also took some turns. These times are with John Dallafior driving. This car also went low 9's at high 140s in 1965, but unclear if Dallafior was onboard for these times. Info per 2/16/66 Drag News Columbus OH 6/65 (10/15/65 National Dragster) - DD |

Notes: John was at US 30 Gary, Indiana, for an FC show on September 11. His 9.52/142.85 beat Hardin and Cannon's Corvair in the first round. He got completely out of shape in round two and shut off to a 13.14/92.73 that lost to Malcolm Durham's 9.54/132. | Injected fuel AWB. Acid-dipped, 2700 lbs. Ran car in '65 and '66. Have read that car was a total loss when it rolled at Millersville, MD, in August 1966. Have also heard the car still exists. - DD | Answer: Drag Times for 9/02/66 reported that the car flipped at Capitol and was a "total loss." The car was found and restored. It exists today. The cause of the flip was given as a broken motor mount. Many cars have been declared totaled at the scene of the accident and later rebuilt. It may well have never RACED again. - Norm Hechtkoff | The Golden Commandos are reported to have been the first team of match racers to swap their carburetors for Hilborn injectors (in 1965). - RT Motor City 1966 (8/26/66 Drag Times) |

Notes: Injected fuel Barracuda-118" Howell chassis, being built late in 1966. Doubtful it ran prior to 1967. Car was for sale in 1968. Don Cloake of Canada ran this car in the seventies, crashing and destroying the car in 1978. (12/66 Drag Racing) - DD |

Notes: John was at Aquasco on April 23 for a best of 5 match race against Malcolm Durham. He fouled in the first two races and lost, but he stayed on it, only to get the car badly out of shape. He was running some new tires, so he decided to put some old tires on for the third race. The old tires didn't help as he lost to the Corvair once again. On May 20, he faced Phil Bonner in a best of three at Capitol Raceway. In the first race, Bonner's 8.87/163 easily beat John's 9.40/152.54. Dallifior got to solo in the second race as Bonner's "Daddy Warbucks" Mustang needed repairs. John ran 9.80/149.50 for the win. The last race was the best, the "Golden Commando's" 8.90/163.33 lost to Phil's 8.85/165. A week later (May 27), he was at Muncie for another match against the "Seaton's Shaker" Corvair driven by Terry Hedrick. Unfortunately, John lost all three races there. John faced one of the strongest cars of the '67 season at Salem on July 30. There he went up against Eddie Schartman's SOHC Comet. The Comet won two straight, but not without a fight. John's 'Cuda bogged in their first race, and his 9.77/158 lost to Ed's 8.08/171. The second race saw Schartman run 7.99 to win over John's 8.38/168. |

Notes: Delorean received one of the four 427 SOHC-powered factory A/FXers produced in 1965. The others went to Nicholson, Beswick and Proffitt. Aditional cars were built and furnished with the tried-and-true 427 Hi-Riser mill, with some of these converting to Cammer power later in the season. Reported to have run Hilborn-injected on fuel later in the season, but this picture seems to show a carbureted racecar. - RT |

Notes: Pete Fullerton and Gary Benedict owned the car from 1972/1975. It had the original BB Chevy L-88 Hi-perf block bored to 440, Enderle injection, TH-400, and was running in A/FA. It wore Tempest badges and taillights, not GTO. Logghe chassis with full fiberglass body, and lift off front, it was beautifully built and detailed by Tom Dempsey. The body was originally built for Arnie Beswick by Fiberglass Ltd, but he did not like that it was a Tempest (vs. GTO) and did not like the blue windows, so the body was sold to Dempsey for this car's build. The car weighed 1620 pounds wet. We ran it for time and exhibition runs at Great Lakes Dragstrip in Union Grove WI a few times before we sold it. We raced with 30-40% nitro purchased from Don Schumacher (thanks Don!) We have additional pictures if interested. The car was sold in early 1975 to a group in Chicago. Shortly after the sale, one of the new owners destroyed the car in a street racing incident. Unfortunately the car no longer exists. |
