Notes: Car debuted in 1965 as an A/Gasser, then stepped up to AA/G in '66. Korney fielded the car as an Anglia until mid-1970. In '69, he was runner-up to Ohio George Montgomery in AA/GS Indy class run offs, marking the end of dominance by a classic gasser-style bodied car in AA/GS. In '71, the Anglia shell was replaced a Corvette shell and with Stone, Woods & Cooke logo went on tour with K.S. Pittman, Junior Thompson, and a few others, dubbed a traveling blown gas funny car circuit. As of mid-'80s, rumor had it that Korney still had the car, including the Anglia body. As an Anglia, 8.50s, as a Vette, 8.30s. |

Notes: Car debuted in 1965 as an A/Gasser, then stepped up to AA/G in 66. Pittman, Junior Thompson and a few others, dubbed a traveling blown gas funny car circuit. As of the mid-'80s, rumor had it that Korney still had the car, including the Anglia body. As an Anglia, ran 8.50s, as a Vette, 8.30s. | Photo from Irwindale '66. |

Notes: Korney started his season at Irwindale on January 14. His 8.96/157.64 qualified #3 for the eight-car field, and in the opening round, he improved to 8.88/158.17 while defeating Ron Nunes' 9.34/150. In the semifinal, eventual winner Manuel Herrera's 8.96/154 beat his 9.02/155.17. Steve was at Irwindale on May 18 for an eight-car show. His 9.17/156.89 in the opening round beat Jim Kirby's 9.27/145. In the semifinal, he improved to 9.11/156.52, but it wasn't enough as he lost to Ernie Nicholson's 8.82/160. Irwindale held an eight-car show on July 27, and Korney was there. In the first round, he ran 9.10/153.32 to advance. He slowed to 9.23/153.32 in the semifinal, which lost to Ernie Nicholson's 9.06/159. The car also ran 153 with a 350ci Chevy. The car debuted in 1965 as an A/Gasser, then stepped up to A/GS in 1966. Korney fielded the car as an Anglia until the middle part of 1970. In 69, he got runner-up to Ohio George in AA/GS Indy class run-offs, earmarking the end of dominance by a classic Gasser style bodied car in AA/GS. In 1971, the Anglia shell was replaced with a Corvette shell, and with Stone, Woods & Cook logo went on tour with KS Pittman, Junior Thompson, and a few others, dubbed as traveling blown gas funny car circuit. As of the mid-eighties, rumor had it that Korney still had the car, including the Anglia body. As an Anglia, it ran 8.50s; as a Vette, it ran 8.30s. Fremont Newspaper cites Steve running Low ET as a September 1968 Gasser show at Fremont in his "Chrysler powered Anglia" running 8.93. |

In '69, he was runner-up to Ohio George Montgomery in AA/GS Indy class runoffs, marking the end of dominance by a classic gasser-style bodied car in AA/GS. In '71, the Anglia shell was replaced by a Corvette shell and with the Stone, Woods & Cook logo went on tour with K.S. Pittman, Junior Thompson, and a few others, dubbed a traveling blown gas funny car circuit. As of mid-'80s, rumor had it that Korney still had the car, including the Anglia body. As an Anglia, ran 8.50s, as a Vette, 8.30s. | Steve started the '69 season by winning over an eight-car field at OCIR. He set Low ET in qualifying #1 with an 8.55. In round one, his 9.05/153.84 advanced over Brad Anderson's 9.11/155. In the semifinals, both he and his opponent Ron Zeller ran 8.99 (Steve at 155.97), but the Anglia got the win light. Then in the final, he faced Gary Densham and Korney ran Low ET of eliminations with an 8.77/157.45 to take the victory over Gary's 8.98/156. He was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals where he ran in the Super Eliminator class. He won his first-round race with a 9.17/155.79, but he lost to Jack Ditmars in round two. On March 15 he was at OCIR for another eight-car show. He qualified #3 with an 8.67 and in the first round, he beat Gary Burgin with an 8.69/158.45. In the semifinals, he had problems and shut off to 10.84 in a loss to Ron Bizio. Lions held another eight-car show on April 26 and Steve qualified #4 with an 8.88. An 8.82/157.61 advanced past round one when Mike Boosin's Corvette failed to fire. In the semifinals, the Anglia broke on its burnout giving Ernie Nicholson a solo into the final. Steve was at OCIR on May 21 for an eight-car show. He qualified #2 with an 8.90/150.18, but picked up to an 8.81/155.97 in the first round, while beating Danny Collins' 9.18/152. In the semifinals, he beat Zeller's 8.68/167 with a holeshot 8.84/156.29. He saved his best for the last round where he ran an 8.71/156.25 to win the meet over Ron Bizio who had his fuel pump actually fall off onto the track during their final round run. Another AA/GS show took place at OCIR on July 26. It was hoped to be a sixteen-car show, but only fourteen cars showed. Steve qualified #8 with a 9.00. In the first round, he improved to an 8.72 to beat Steve Thomas. In round two he beat Densham's 8.78 with an 8.66. Gary protested Korney's Anglia and the car was found to be legal, even weighing 100 pounds more than it had to at the 5 lbs. per CID minimum. Steve slept in the semifinal and ran a strong 8.73, but lost to Keith Bush's 8.83. - RH |
