Notes: Ernie was at Lions on February 1, where he made a check-out pass of 8.90/137.82. Lions held an eight-car show on April 26, and Nicholson qualified with an 8.95. He picked up a bunch in the first round, as his 8.76/160.14 beat Skip Hess' 8.78/159. In the semifinals, he soloed with an 8.86/141.28 when Steve Korney's Anglia broke on its burnout. That put him in the final against Ron Bizio's Willys. Unfortunately, the Cuda had problems, and Ernie shut down to a 9.44/109.57 while Ron went on to win with an 8.60/162. He was back at Lions for another eight-car show on May 17. An 8.99 qualified #7, but a first-round 9.00/156.25 lost to Bizio's 8.74/160. Ernie failed to qualify for an eight-car show at OCIR on May 24. The bump spot was a 9.27. One car could not run, and Ernie's Cuda got into the show. He picked it up a whole bunch in the first round, running an 8.94/157.06, but still losing to Ron Zeller's Low ET blast of 8.63/167. Nicholson's 8.94 would have qualified for the field in the third spot. He was at OCIR on June 28 for a sixteen-car show. Notes: On March 8, Nicholson was at OCIR for an eight-car show. An 8.80/159.85 beat Jr. Thompson in the first round, while in the semifinals, his off-pace 9.62/101.35 lost to Manuel Herrera's 8.59/165 in John Lombardo's Corvette. Fortunately for Ernie, Manuel hurt his motor on the run and was unable to run in the final so Nicholson was reinstated. It didn't help much, however, as in the final the 'Cuda's transmission let go and he slowed to 17.67/96.67 in his loss to Ron Nunes' 8.64/162. |
