Notes: Jerry qualified #10 at the first 500-inch Pro Stock race at the 1982 NHRA Winternationals at 8.068/168.22. He ran 8.067/168.85 in the first round but lost to Frank Iaconio's 7.82/173. On March 28, he was at OCIR for a Division 6 race. He finished runner-up when he fouled in the final against Harry Scribner. Jerry ran 8.01/172.08 at the May Division 6 race in Fremont. We need to validate when we changed to the 1982 car. |

It was an eight-car field, and his 8.36/164.53 qualified #6. Unfortunately, an even better 8.33/164.53 in the first round, lost to Lee Shepherd's 8.17/170. Eckman qualified #13 at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals with a 7.87/177.86. Joe Lepone fouled against him in the opening round, and he advanced with a 7.88/177.51. In round two, he fouled away a 7.89/178.21 while eventual winner Bob Glidden ran 7.75 for the win. Jerry was the third alternate for the eight-car field at the NHRA Golden Gate Nationals with a 7.80/175.78. Eckman best times at the World Finals at Orange County with a 7.731/178.21. Notes: The team started at the Gatornationals this year with a ninth alternate slot at 7.831/178.25. Eckman qualified #14 at the NHRA 7-Eleven Cajun Nationals in Baton Rouge with a 7.747/181.23. He got a gift in round 1 when his opponent, #6 qualifier Dave Hutchens, went red with a 7.734/177.23, while Eckman's winning time was 7.819/173.74. In round 2, he drew #2 qualifier Warren Johnson, and this time, Eckman turned on the Red Bulb against the eventual winner, who didn't need the gift. WJ took a 7.682/178.64 to 7.856/174.96 win. Eckman qualified #16 at Columbus at 7.790/175.30. He surprised a fouling Gene Fasching in round one, 7.927/170.00 to 7.796/178.07. Frank Iaconio ended Jerry's day in round two, 7.747/178.92 to 7.851/174.20. The team sold the car to Stan Mizell at the NHRA Springnationals and considered retiring. Orndorff called Eckman the next day and said, "Do you miss it? Let's build another!" The team built a new Don Ness car and came back in 1986. - Jerry Eckman on Racin & Rockin Radio, 10/06/14 |

Notes: Original pre-Internet draglist entry. Listed times from Drag Racing List December 86/January 87, Volume 1, Number 9. | Jerry started the '86 NHRA season by qualifying #6 at Pomona for the Winternationals with a 7.589/181.08. A first-round 7.63/176.47 beat Roy Hill's 7.69/179, but in round two he fouled away a 761 in a loss to Nick Nikolis' 7.60. He did the same thing at the Gatornationals; a first-round 7.59/177.86 beat Ken Dondero's 7.69/179, but in the semifinals, he fouled away a 7.61/179.35 against eventual winner Don Campanello who ran 7.63/180 for the win. The next event was the Southern Nationals at Atlanta in April. Jerry qualified #8 with a 7.61/180.57. He beat Kenny Delco in the first round, before losing to Butch Leal in round two. It was off to Baton Rouge for the Cajun Nationals. Once again Eckman had no problem qualifying in the top half of the field with a 7.60/182.66 (#6). Unfortunately, he lost to Reid Whisnant in the first round. On June 15 he was at National Trail for the Springnationals where he ran 7.61/179.42 to qualify #8. A first-round 7.70/178.74 beat Campanello's 7.84/176. In round two, he was sharp on the tree turning a 7.69/179.53 to beat Dave Hutchens' quicker 7.66/176. In the semifinal, Jerry's 7.71/179.96 lost to Leal's 7.63/182. The NHRA tour then shifted to Canada for the Grandnationals where Jerry ran 7.64/181.37 to qualify #7. | At the NHRA US Nationals Eckman ran 7.559/185.45 to qualify #10 in the 16-car field. In round 1 Eckman Faced #2 Qualifier Bruce Allen where Eckman's 7.592/181.34 was no match for the eventual Runner Up Allen's 7.492/183.48. |

Notes: Original pre-Internet draglist entry. Listed times from The Drag Racing List, Winter 87/88, Volume 2, Number 9. Won Englishtown Summernationals. | Eckman didn't start his season as he would have liked. A best of 7.58/182.81 was good for the fourth alternate at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. Things went much better at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, where he qualified #5 with a 7.48/185.52. He beat Tony Christian's 7.53/185 in the first round, with a 7.49/185.33. But in round two, he lost to Bob Glidden. He was at the Texas Motorplex for the NHRA Winston All-Star race. The PRO fields were only eight-car shows, and Eckman's 7.40/185.37 qualified #4. A first-round 7.61/182.81 beat Gordie Rivera's quicker 7.59/180, but in the semifinals, his 7.42/184.53 lost to the race's eventual winner Warren Johnson's 7.32/187. On April 11, he was at Firebird Raceway for the Coors-sponsored race. It was another eight-car show, and Jerry qualified #1 with a 7.52 (Low ET). He ran 7.61/177.86 and 7.55/182.18, only a fouling Chuck Echmalian to reach the finals. He faced Ken Thurm, and Eckman won easily with a 7.58/182.55 (Top Speed) over Ken's 7.89/175. The next NHRA event was the Southern Nationals at Atlanta on April 26. Eckman qualified #2 behind Glidden's 7.38 with a 7.46/182.81. Unfortunately, a first-round 7.47/183.15 lost to Christian's 7.49/185. Early in the season, Eckman was using a Willie Rells built car. Not sure when or if he switched to a Ness-built car. Baton Rouge had 34 cars attempt to qualify for the NHRA Cajun Nationals, and Jerry's 7.57/183.11 got him the #7 spot. In the first round, he faced Larry Morgan, and he fouled away a 7.51 while Larry advanced into round two with a 7.66. The next stop on the NHRA tour was at Columbus for the Springnationals. Once again, Jerry qualified well, with his 7.53/182.55 getting the #4 spot in the field. He beat Reid Whisnant in the first round, with a 7.61/182.00, and in round two, a 7.67/181.56 took out Gary Brown. In the semifinals, a 7.65/181.48 lost to Butch Leal's 7.59/183. He followed the NHRA tour to Canada for the Grandnationals, where his 7.55/183.78 qualified #2. But in the first round, he fouled away a 7.53 against Johnson, who advanced with a 7.59. He got his first NHRA National event victory at the next race, the Summernationals at Englishtown. He qualified #3 with a 7.53/182.92 and then beat Brown in round one, with a 7.56/182.24. A second-round 7.57/182.33 beat Whisnant's 7.63/179, and a semifinal 7.58/181.70 took out Jerry Haas' 7.68/181. He faced Bruce Allen in the Reher and Morrison car, and a 7.50/183.07 picked up the win over Allen's 7.55/183. He then made the trip to Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. His 7.96/172.54 qualified #5, but he lost a close race in the opening round where both he and Kenny Delco ran 8.07 (Eckman at 171.23), but Delco got the win light. At the NHRA Northstar Nationals, a 7.59/180.65 qualified #4. Another 7.59 at 181.81 in the first round, beat Lee Dean's 7.59/182, but a sleepy 7.58/182.55 in round two lost to Nick Nikolis' 7.67/181. |

Notes: Eckman started the season on a sour note when he failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. He was still running his '87 Camaro at the event. His 7.47/185.83 was the first alternate. He was very impressive during qualifying at Gainesville In March for the NHRA Gatornationals. Fifty-five cars were attempting to qualify for the sixteen-car show, and his 7.361/189.35 qualified #2 behind Warren Johnson's 7.35/188. Unfortunately, his 7.39/188.83 lost to Alban Gauthier's 7.37/186 in the opening round of eliminations. The following week he was at Bradenton for the IHRA Supernationals. A 7.49 qualified #7 in the sixteen-car field, and he lasted until round two before fouling (7.60) against Warren Johnson, who advanced with a 7.40. He then went to Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. Once again, he lasted until round two, where his 7.48/186.72 lost to Charlie Garrett's 7.48/185 in a close race. Jerry ran 7.413/186.53 IHRA Ennis 4/88. The Texas Nationals had been postponed by rain, but after qualifying |#6 with a 7.36/187.42, he went into round two, where his 7.39/185.79 lost to Tim Nabors' 7.32/189. Thirty-nine cars attempted to qualify for the sixteen-car field at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. His 7.47 qualified #8. He beat Reid Whisnant in the first round before losing to Butch Leal in the next round. The following week (May 22), he was at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals. As was the pattern lately, his 7.65/183.03 lost to Nabors' 7.55/184 in round two. Shortly after that, he was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. A 7.44/186.76 qualified #8. He did OK on the NHRA tour with two runner-up finishes and the Top Speed of the Meet at Sonoma at 190.55. The Gainesville and Sonoma times were Jerry's best of the year. |

Notes: Jerry started the season by qualifying #11 with a 7.39/187.65 at the Winternationals. He improved to a 7.38/187.22 in the first round, which beat Bruce Allen. In the second round, he ran a 7.40/186.14, which was beaten by Warren Johnson's 7.35/187. The next race was at Houston for the Supernationals. Eckman just made the field with a 7.37 for the bump spot (#16). He lasted until the second round, where, despite running a strong 7.32, he lost to Allen's 7.30. The Gatornationals didn't go so well as he failed to qualify. He rebounded by qualifying #9 in Atlanta for the Southern Nationals, but that set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Bob Glidden, whom he lost to. He failed to qualify at the next two races, the Mid-South Nationals and the Cajun Nationals. At the Springnationals, as mentioned above, he qualified #11. He lost in the first round to WJ. It was then on to Canada for the Grandnationals, where he ran a 7.41/185.95 to qualify #9 again and set up another first-round meeting with Glidden. In that race, a 7.45/185.45 lost to Bob's 7.38/185. At the Summernationals, Jerry qualified #10 with a 7.41/186.25. He lost to Darrell Alderman in the first round. He went to Maryland International for the US Pro Stock Open the next day (July 10). A 7.56/183.15 qualified #8 in the sixteen-car field. In the first round, he ran a 7.50/183.15 to beat Joe Sway's 7.62/181. But in round two, he fell to WJ's 7.48/182 with a 7.55/183.00. Eckman did really well at Denver for the Mile High Nationals. He didn't qualify well, with a 7.91/173.3,1, grabbing the #12 position. But in the first round, he beat Gene Fasching, and in round two, he beat Kenny Delco's 8.08/172 with a 7.93/172. In the semifinals, he knocked off Rickie Smith with a 7.92/172 to Smith's 7.94. But in the final, he needed a tenth; a 7.93 fell to Glidden's 7.83. It was a shot in the arm that the team needed since they had not been beyond the second round all season. The next race was the California Nationals; Jerry qualified #10 with a 7.37. He advanced past the first-round with a 7.45/185.37 when Don Beverley broke. A round two 7.45/185.52 beat Alderman's quicker 7.44/186, but in the semifinal, he ran a consistent 7.46/184.08 that lost to a WJ holeshot 7.48/185. The NHRA tour shifted to Seattle for the Seafair Nationals, where a 7.42/185.60 qualified on the bump. In the first round, both he and Butch Leal ran 7.4,1 with Leal getting the win. The team was down at the Northstar Nationals when a best of 7.54/182.33 was only good for the sixth alternate. The bad luck continued at Indy for the US Nationals when a best of 7.442/186.29 failed to qualify (9th alternate). - Danny White | The next event was the Keystone Nationals, and for the third straight race, he failed to make the show. A best of 7.44/185.49 was twelfth alternate. He wasn't running all that badly, but the bump at Maple Grove was a 7.40. Things didn't go any better at the next two races, the Chief Nationals and the Fallnationals, where he failed to qualify at both meets. He did make the field at the season-ending World Finals when a 7.38/186.72 grabbed the #9 position. He lost to Larry Morgan in the first round. | Rick Howard photo from 1989 NHRA Budweiser Springnats, Columbus, Ohio. (Qualified 11th at 7.42/184.84. Lost to Warren Johnson in round one, despite improved speed of 185.75). |

First win for a Bickel race car in NHRA Pro Stock. Won Columbus (3rd overall) over Rickie Smith (Rick Howard photo of Columbus Pro Stock final). Won Indy 1990 over defending champion Larry Morgan. 7.352 to 7.351 holeshot! | Jerry started the season strong. At the season opening NHRA Winternationals at Pomona, he qualified #1 with a 7.29 (Low ET of the meet) at 188.56. He went on to win by beating a fouling Jerry Haas in round one, with a 7.30/188.44, a 7.35/188.28 in round two beat Kenny Delco's 7.37/188 and a semifinal 7.30/188.36 beat Darrell Alderman's 7.35/186. He faced Bruce Allen in the final and his 7.33/188.12 got him the victory over Bruce's very close 7.33/188. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, Eckman looked strong again. He qualified #5 with a 7.32/187.85 and a first-round 7.33/187.30 stopped Gary Herman. In round two he beat Mark Pawuk's 7.40/185 with a 7.36/186.91. Jerry qualified #5 with a 7.26/188.28. He advanced past a fouling Joe Lepone Jr. in the first round, with a 7.30/188.91, but another 7.26/188.75 in round two lost to a holeshot 7.28/188 by Allen. At the NHRA Gatornationals, the Pennzoil team came away with a new track record 7.27, but little else. Eckman qualified on the pole with a 7.29/187.96, but in round one, a holeshot 7.37 by Buddy Ingersoll beat his tenth quicker 7.27. Next stop was at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. A 7.26/189.23 qualified #2 and in round one, he took out Herman. In the second round his 7.36/185 beat Glidden, but in the semifinal, he lost to Warren Johnson. |

Notes: Finished number three in the world to Darrell Alderman. Set national record at 7.176 at Pomona Winters. | Jerry started the season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals where he qualified #2 with a 7.19/192.71. He worked his way to the final by beating Kenny Delco's 7.33/188 in the first round, with a 7.21/191.53, a 7.36/188.36 beat Mark Pawuk in round two, and a 7.25/190.79 beat Warren Johnson's 7.32/189 in the semifinals. In the final, he met up with Jim Yates in the final who had run a best of 7.27 in eliminations. The two Firebirds lined up in the final with Eckman having about a tenth of a second advantage. Sure enough, Jerry got the win, setting a new NHRA record of 7.17 at 192.18 over Jim's 7.26/190. He doubled up by winning the next NHRA race, the Arizona Nationals. There he qualified #1 with a track record 7.20 at 191.20. In round one Kenny Delco fouled against him and Eckman advanced with a 7.22/191.57. In round two, Frank Iaconio fouled and a 7.26/191.00 advanced into the semifinals where he faced Johnson. WJ got out of shape and Jerry ran 7.24/190.96 to get into the final where he ran Don Beverley. Jerry got his second victory of the young season with a 7.26/190.59 over Don's troubled 7.77/187. At Houston for the NHRA Supernationals, he qualified #3 with a 7.17/192.38. He beat Lucinda McFarlin in round one, with a 7.23/190.79 and in the second round, both he and Larry Morgan ran 7.21 (Eckman at 190.55), but the "Pennzoil" driver got the win. He took his first loss of the season in the semifinals when he lost to Rickie Smith. The next NHRA race was the Gatornationals. Jerry qualified #5 with a 7.17/193.17. He almost lost in round one, when his 7.20/193 just beat Joe LePone Jr's quicker 7.19/191. Jerry picked up to a 7.16 in round two to drop Lewis Worden's 7.19/191 and in the semifinals, his 7.18/192.84 advanced when Pawuk fouled. Eckman found himself in his third final in four races. He ran a great 7.16/192 in the final, but WJ won with an even better 7.14/193. Jerry got another win at the NHRA Winston Invitationals at Rockingham in April. A 7.17/192.34 qualified #1. He beat Ray Franks' 7.74/176 in the first round, with a 7.21/192.10. In round two, his 7.25/191.24 beat Bruce Allen. Another 7.25 at 190.31 beat Bob Glidden's 7.29/190. In the final, he faced WJ again; this time the outcome was reversed from Gainesville with Jerry's 7.23/191.04 beating WJ's off pace 7.40/187. The "Pennzoil" team got its first first-round loss at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. Eckman qualified for the show in the #5 spot with a 7.24/190.83, but in round one, his 7.25/189.15 lost to Scott Geoffrion's holeshot aided 7.27/187. The team also lost early at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals. There Eckman qualified #8 with a 7.29/189.47. A first-round 7.34/189.07 beat Alban Gauthier's quicker 7.31/189.83, but in round two, he slowed to a 7.41/187.69 that lost to Geoffrion's 7.30/190. After his early season success, he had to go more than one or two rounds as he had in the last two races to stay in the NHRA points chase. Things went his way at the NHRA Springnationals in June. Jerry qualified #5 with a 7.28/189.63. He went on to win the event by running 7.29/189.43 over Harry Scribner's 7.38/188. A 7.33/186.41 took out WJ, and a 7.31/189.23 to beat Smith in the semifinals. In the final, another consistent 7.29/189.07 took the win over Larry Morgan's troubled 10.05. |

Notes: Eckman was at Pomona on February 7 for the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified #5 with a 7.21/192.38. In the first round, Jerry used his driving ability to beat Frank Iaconio. His 7.26/189.91 beat Frank's quicker 7.24/191. In the second round, he lost with a 7.28/189.71 to Ray Franks' 7.25/189. At Phoenix for the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals, Eckman's 7.28/190.47 qualified #12. He only needed an 8.47/117.53 to advance past the first-round when his competition, Mark Thomas, fouled. A 7.31/189.63 lost to Mark Pawuk's 7.22/191 in round two. Things didn't go too well at Houston for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals (formerly the Supernationals). His best of 7.16/191.85 was good for the first alternate. Gainesville saw Eckman qualify #13 for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 7.16/193.09. He beat Lewis Worden's 7.16/192 in the first round, with a 7.21/190.71. In round two, Pawuk beat him with a 7.17/191 to Jerry's 7.23/190.75. Rockingham hosted the NHRA Winston Invitational in April, and the "Pennzoil" Pontiac was able to qualify #9 with a 7.15/191.89. He beat Mark Osborne in the first round, with a 7.20/192.14, but he again lost in round two. This time Warren Johnson's 7.12/195 beat his 7.22/192.06. He failed to qualify at the next NHRA race, the Southern Nationals at Atlanta, where he was the fifth alternate with a best of 7.27/190.75. Eckman did much better at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, where he qualified #5 with a 7.21/190.79. A 7.25/189.79 beat Osborne in the first round, and he got past a fouling Larry Morgan in round two with a 7.29/189.63. His run ended in the semifinals, where he faced eventual winner Scott Geoffrion in the Dodge. Scott easily won their match with his 7.18/192 beating Jerry's 7.27/189.59. At Englishtown, 31 cars attempted to qualify for the sixteen-car field for the NHRA Mopar Parts Nationals. Unfortunately, Jerry's best of 7.21/191.85 (fourth alternate) failed to make the show. He stepped up to qualify #5 at the NHRA Springnationals with a 7.24/190.59, but he lost to Rickie Smith in the first round. The ninth NHRA race of the season was the Western Nationals. A 7.28/189.51 qualified #8, but he lost to a holeshot in the first round, when Worden's 7.36/187 beat his 7.34/188.04. Jerry debuted a new Bickel-built Firebird at Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. New car bugs held the car back, and his 7.72/178.00 best failed to make the field (second alternate). He got in on the "bump" spot at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals, and in the first round, he upset low qualifier Geoffrion with a 7.36/188.95 that beat Scott's much better 7.27/191. However, the thrill was short-lived as in round two, he ran a 7.34/189.19 that lost to Smith's 7.33/189. A week later (August 8), he was at Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals. Eckman qualified #10 with a 7.20/190.35. He beat Bob Glidden in round one, with a 7.24/189.43, but a 7.21/190.15 was no match against Geoffrion's 7.15/192. |

Notes: Rick Howard photo from the 1994 NHRA Oldsmobile Springnats, Columbus, Ohio (DNQ, first alternate with best of 7.32/189.75). | Eckman failed to qualify at Pomona for the season-opening NHRA Winternationals. His best of 7.25/190.63 was good for the eighth alternate. At the NHRA Quality Care Nationals in Arizona, Jerry ran 7.19/191.08 to qualify #12. He lost to Mark Pawuk in the first round. He just got in on the "bump" at Houston for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals with a 7.15/192.71. Unfortunately, he lost to Scott Geoffrion in the first round. Eckman was the first alternate at the NHRA Gatornationals with a 7.20/192.30 best. Things didn't go much better at Rockingham for the NHRA Winston Invitational, where a best of 7.18/193.29 was good for the fourth alternate. Things went better in Atlanta at the NHRA Southern Nationals, where Jerry qualified #10 with a 7.16/193.13. However, a 7.18/192.47 in the first round wasn't enough to get around Larry Morgan's 7.16/194. The next NHRA race was the Mid-South Nationals at Memphis. Jerry ran 7.23/191.28 to qualify #14, but a 7.27/190.67 in the first round, lost to Geoffrion's 7.12/194. |

Notes: Jerry qualified #14 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.15/193.95. In the first round, his 7.17/192.59 upset #3 qualifier Kurt Johnson's 7.18/192. He ran another 7.17 at 192.88 in round two, but it wasn't enough as he lost to Jim Yates' quicker leaving 7.18/193. He had the quickest Pontiac in qualifying at Firebird Raceway for the NHRA Arizona Nationals. His career-best 7.10/194.25 got him the #5 spot in the field. In the opening round, Troy Coughlin's 7.19/192 fell to his 7. -193.42. A 7.16/193.34 in round two stopped Mark Pawuk's 7.21/192, and he moved into the final by advancing over a fouling Billy Glidden in the semi-final with a 7.25/191.85. He faced the Dodge of Darrell Alderman in the final, and there was no stopping Alderman as he won his second race of the young season. Four Firebirds made the cut at Houston for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals, and Jerry's was the third quickest of the breed at 7.06/195.90 (eleventh overall). Steve Schmidt fouled against him in round one, and he advanced at 7.10/194.09. In the second round, his 7.12/194.34 lost to eventual winner Scott Goffrion's 7.02/196. Forty cars were attempting to qualify at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals, and Eckman's 7.09/194.51 qualified #12. He improved to 7.06/195.10 in the first round to beat Schmidt's late 7.04/196 but his 7.10/194.67 in round two lost to Alderman's 7.03. He ran 7.146/193.42 at NHRA Indianapolis in September. |

Notes: Evidencing his lawyer occupation, Eckstrand named his car with a Latin phrase, meaning "the thing speaks for itself." At the U.S. Nationals, he took an SS/SA win with 12.72 at 113.35 mph on Sep. 3. This was his Ramchargers II car. On Sep. 23 at Mason-Dixon in Maryland, he beat Dave Strickler in a 2-out-of-3 match race with a best time of 12.64. Photo: Early Drag Racing Photos, p. 36, in Jalopy Journal, The H.A.M.B. - MB |

Notes: This particular car was first built as a 2% relocation for the 1965 Winternationals, where Eckstrand drove it in A/FX class. He also raced it in this form at the 1965 AHRA Winternationals at Beeline Dragway. It was converted to full AWB specs soon after by the factory-employed Golden Commandos team members; it toured sparingly compared to some of the other Chrysler factory-authorized AWB entries. However, on August 7/1965, at York US 30 Dragway, Eckstrand won the legendary Super Stock Nationals 'Unlimited Fuel' class title over Dick Landy's Dodge. The Top Stock Heads-Up crown for the event went to Bobby Harrop's Dodge sometime after 3:00 AM in the morning. Eckstrand retired from driving after this event. The car ran low 9's-high 140s in 1965, uncertain if Eckstrand or Dallafior ran those numbers. Dallafior and the Commandos team drove the car through the end of 1966. It ended up being located by Steve Atwell through a chance acquaintance in the late 1980s, though in dilapidated form. In 2009, collector Mike Guffey completed a restoration begun by the late Dick Towers. That year, race car restorer Erik Lindberg drove the car to several 60-foot launches in Kearney, Nebraska. - GS | Elton 'Al' Eckstrand passed away after a short illness in 2008. A was at Cecil on July 31 for a best-of-five match against Phil Bonner and his Falcon. Eckstrand got to go home early as he only had to make three runs as he beat Bonner three straight. His first two passes were 9.93/138 and 9.91/138.46. Bonner fouled against him in the third race, and Al made an easy pass to win the match. |

Notes: Injected fuel AWB. Eckstrand was entered in a race at Lions early in 1966, not sure if he drove in 66 or not. Ran car in 65, John Dallafior drove this in 1966. May have crashed it. Long Beach CA 1966 (Ad in 2/25/66 Drag World) |
