Jett qualified #15 at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals with a 6.28/219.13. A first-round 6.33/200.49 lost to K.C. Spurlock's 6.22/221. He then went to Seattle for the NHRA Seafair Nationals. There, he qualified #13 with a 6.27/217.07. But this time his opening round 6.33/216.65 fell to Jim Epler's 6.20/226. The following weekend (August 13), he was at Firebird Raceway for its Nightfire Nationals. He qualified #2 in the eight-car field with a 6.57/211.68. In the first round, the car had steering problems and opponent Rick Henkelman advanced with a 6.84/210.

Notes: The Throttle Queens was a group of about ten women organized in about January 1956. Some of the women in the club included Wilma Brown, who raced a roadster. Other women were Pat Marian, Pat Field, and June Minnich. It was reportedly the only all-women drag racing club in California. They primarily raced their gasser at San Fernando in what was called the H category, comprising the Fendered Coupe/Sedan Gas class. Pat Field's husband, Harry, drove occasionally, but Pat usually drove. On September 30, Harry drove the '46 Ford to a class win with 96.67 mph. "I'm beginning to have a horrible suspicion that the girls drive better than men," Harry said. "They've shut the guys out on several occasions. That really hurts." That seems to have been the case as Pat had faster times than her husband. On October 21, Pat turned 99.78 mph in her class win at San Fernando. On December 23, she won again at San Fernando with 97.82 mph. Both of those winning speeds were faster than her husband's.
