Notes: Louie claims an unreal 188.03 clocking from Spokane in 1988. That's crazy even for the often generous Spokane clocks. Did that occur on two wheels? Did it occur at all? I can't see that run ever happening in the massive Kenworth machine, so it must have been in the Dodge pickup. Who was there and can confirm?

Notes: Dennis did not race at the NHRA Winternationals, but he attempted to qualify at the Gatornationals. Unfortunately, his best of 6.72/203.06 was good for the second alternate for the sixteen-car show. At Atlanta, for the NHRA Southern Nationals, his 6.67/207.66 qualified #6 in the eight-car field. He hurt some parts in qualifying and was unable to run in eliminations. At the second NHRA Division 5 race at Brainerd on May 19, he qualified #5, which set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Brian Raymer. Dennis' 6.79/207.13 finished second best to Brian's 6.58/208. The following week (May 26), he was at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals. Once again, he qualified (6.54/204.26) in the #5 spot for the eight-car show. That meant another first-round race with the low qualifier. This time, Don Woosley had the pole and his 6.46/209 beat Forcelle's 6.62/202.79. On June 2, he was at the NHRA Sportsnationals, where his 6.59/208.42 qualified #14. A first-round 6.67/204.54 beat Bruce McDowell's 6.73/210, but his 6.68/205.01 in round two lost to Mike Kosky's 6.61/209. The NHRA's next race was the Springnationals. Dennis ran 6.59/206.51 to qualify #8. In the first round, his 6.71/205.57 beat Al Dapozzo's ailing 7.92/127. The field was short, so in round two, Dennis got the "odd-lot" solo and ran 6.66/205.01. In the semifinals, Billy Williams fouled against him, and Forcelle advanced into the final with a 6.72/203.89. His final-round opponent was Bill Walsh, whose slowest run in eliminations had been 6.63. In the final, Walsh got the victory with a 6.53/210, beating Dennis' 6.76/202.79. | At the NHRA Budweiser Summernationals in Englishtown, Forcelle qualified #6 with a 6.458/211.26 & faced #14 qualifier Jeff Richardson in Round 1. Notes: This was a good year for Dennis. he qualified everywhere, won some rounds. Dennis was runner-up at Memphis and the World Finals (giving Darryl Gwynn all he wanted in the final, losing 5.13 to 5.14). He went to the semis in Atlanta. Forcelle started the season at Firebird Raceway's Super Bowl of Drag Racing event. It was an eight-car field, and his 5.49 qualified #5. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Dick LaHaie. Dick beat him in their race and went on to win the event. He next went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. 27 cars were attempting to qualify for the sixteen car show, and his 5.26/267.71 qualified #8. In the opening round of eliminations, his 5.41/228 lost to Tim Morgan's 5.34/262. Dennis' next stop was at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals. Bill Mullins fouled against him in the opening round, and his 5.31/267.85 advanced. But another 5.31 at 263.15 lost to eventual winner Gene Snow's 5.25/248 in the semifinal. The following weekend (March 20), he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified #4 with a 5.17/275 and, in the first round, was upset by Shirley Muldowney. It was then off to Desoto Dragway for the rain-delayed IHRA Supernationals. Unfortunately, in round one, his tire-smoking 6.76 lost to Rocky Epperly's 5.53. Forcelle had a good showing at Atlanta in April for the NHRA Southern Nationals. He ran 5.38 in the first round, to advance, and in round two, his 5.34/266 covered Muldowney's 5.48/267, but he fell to Eddie Hill in the semifinal. At the IHRA Texas Nationals, he qualified #5 at 5.16/270.51. This was the race that saw Hill run the sport's first 4-second pass. In the opening round, he beat Muldowney with a 5.18/271, but the car broke on the line against Frank Hawley in round two. Even though Dennis didn't qualify well (#12 at 5.42) at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals, he ran well in eliminations. He beat LaHaie in round one. Ray Stutz lost fire in round two, and his 5.43/267 advanced. In the semifinal, another 5.43 at 258 stopped Joe Amato, who lost a blower belt. He faced low qualifier Darrell Gwynn in the final. Gwynn had been running 5.2's all day, and the final was no exception as his 5.24/269 got the win over Forcelle's 5.31/267.61 runner-up effort. Photo from Columbus 1988. Notes: Dennis ran a 5.06/277.69 to qualify #4 at Pomona for the Winternationals. In the first round, he ran a 5.09/277.26 to beat Robert Reehl's 5.18/250. He then beat Gary Beck's 5.40/258 in the second round with a 5.11/269.54. A semifinal pass of 5.18/262.54 lost to Gary Ormsby's 5.05/278. At the Supernationals, he qualified #15 just making the show. Unfortunately, he lost in the first round. At Gainesville, for the Gatornationals, Forcelle used a 5.16 to qualify #9. He met low qualifier Joe Amato in the first round, and beat him with a 5.15 to Joe's 5.17. He lost to Darrell Gwynn in the second round. The Southern Nationals was the next stop on the NHRA tour, and once again, Dennis qualified in the top half of the field with his 5.20/255.17 holding position #7. He improved to a first-round 5.17/272.06 to beat Pat Dakin, but against Lori Johns in the second round, a quicker 5.21/270.27 lost to her 5.22/273. Race five on the schedule saw the tour at Memphis for the Mid-South Nationals. Forcelle qualified #11 with a 5.16/273.55 but lost in the first round, to Gwynn. Darrell had Dennis' number as at the next event, the Cajun Nationals, Forcelle qualified #4 with a 5.16/272.64 and beat Hank Endres in the first round, before losing to Gwynn's 5.23/271 in the second round with a quicker 5.22. Things went better at the Springnationals, where Dennis qualified #13 with a 5.17/272.89, setting up a first-round race against Darrell. Gwynn smoked the tires in that race, and Dennis ran a 5.29/275 for the win. In round two against Ormsby, it was his turn to smoke the hides, and he watched Gary run a 5.12 for the win. The tour then traveled to Canada for the eighth race of the season, the Grandnationals. A 5.21/270.10 qualified #6 and a 5.27/268.09 beat Connie Kalitta's 5.45/270 in the first round. In the second round, an off pace 5.40/267.53 lost to Ormsby's 5.18/278. He jumped ship and raced at the IHRA Northern Nationals at Milan on July 2. He did quite well. In the first round, his 5.29/271.87 beat low qualifier Endres who smoked the tires, and a semifinal 5.36/268.43 beat a tire-smoking Jack Ostrander. In the final, he was paired against Gene Snow. Another good run of 5.29/273.58 by Dennis lost to the "Snowman's" 5.25/275. It was back to the NHRA fold the following week (July 9 for the Summernationals at Englishtown. A 5.19/277.69 qualified #10. He beat Amato in the first round, before losing a close one to Eddie Hill in the second round, where they both ran 5.18's. It was then on to the thin air of Denver for the Mile High Nationals. Dennis used a 5.33/255.60 to qualify #6. He beat Toepke in the first round, but a 5.41 in the second round lost to eventual winner Amato who ran a 5.28/264. Dennis' next stop was the California Nationals, where a 5.11/274.89 qualified #6. He lost to Jim Head in the first round. He did a bit better at the Seafair Nationals at Seattle. He used a 5.13/278.37 to qualify #8, and he got past Robert Reehl's 5.24/266 in the first round, with a 5.28/269.78. He lost to Frank Cook in the second round. At the Northstar Nationals, he qualified in the dreaded #9 spot (5.24/263.92), setting up a first-round meeting with the low qualifier, Dick LaHaie, but in that race, Dick smoked the tires while Forcelle moved on with a 5.24/269.78. He lost in the second round to Snow. At the US Nationals, Dennis hit a bit of a slow streak; his best of 5.15/270.18 failed to qualify for the field. Then at Maple Grove for the Keystone Nationals, a 5.27/262.16 was only good for the #15 spot on the grid. Against Frank Bradley in the first round, he had a rear-end break putting him out of the show. The next race was the Chief Nationals at the Texas Motorplex. Dennis qualified #14 with a 5.09/270.10. He lost to Mike Brotherton in the first round. Dennis's best NHRA times were the 5.0689 from Pomona and the 278.37 from Seattle. The Drag Racing List Volume 5, Number 1, Winter 89/90 had 279.06. That was not an NHRA speed. Perhaps from IHRA?
