Notes: AKA Quarter-Horse. On June 29, Fred was at New York National for the Smoker's Meet. It was a 32-car show and over 50 cars attempted to qualify. Forkner made the show and in the first round, his 7.07 advanced. In round two he beat an out of shape Don Cook with a 7.19/198. In the third round, he dipped into the sixes with a 6.99/198.22 to advance to the semifinals. There he faced Leroy Goldstein in the "Ramchargers" car. Fred picked up to a 6.84/205, but it wasn't enough to beat Goldstein's 6.60/217. He won the third annual New Jersey State Championships at Atco on August 10 beating Billy Nansen in the final with a 7.47/167. Fred had earlier run a 6.92/210.28 in the first round, over a broken Larry Bucher, and a 7.00/188 over Sam Hagen's 7.05/207 in the semifinal.
