Notes: The car's first public appearances were at car shows in Sacramento and Oakland. It also made a non-competing appearance at the March Meet. But one of its initial race outings was at Sacramento on May 15, where it ran 8.19 at 192.2 mph. The next week at Sacramento, it turned a very promising 7.83. Notes: Don started his season at Fremont's New Year's Day race. He lost to Jim Dunn's 6.89/216 in the first round, with a 6.93/212.26, but was reinstated when Dunn could not make round two. Don then ran 7.32 to advance over Ed Schrock's out-of-shape pass. In the semifinals, his 7.19 lost to Gary Cochran's 7.05. Shortly after that (January 6), he went to Sacramento and qualified #1 with a 6.90 (Low ET) at 215.82. His 7.00 beat a tire-smoking James Warren's 7.87 in the opening round.
