Car was sold to Bobby Moore and Tim Kushi of Pittsfield, Mass., who ran an A/Fuel funny car in 1967. Years of twisting, wheelstanding sent the car to the scrap yard. It no longer exists. Notes: Roy Gay entered the new car into competition for the first time at the OCIR Manufacturers' Meet held in November. In the first round, he beat Gas Ronda with a 7.96/184.04. He reached the final as the two Low ET cars would meet for a final run-off. This was pretty good, considering the caliber of competition. There were 45 cars there, and all the "name" drivers were there. This Pontiac-powered car getting into the final was huge. But a 8.10/175.09 in the final lost to Eddie Schartman's 7.86/184 in his newly-blown Comet. He ran it at Beeline Dragway for the Western US Super Stock Championships in early December. It was a sixteen-car field, and he advanced in the opening round when Charlie Allen had his steering fail. In round two, he lost to eventual winner, "Dyno Don" Nicholson. Dick Harrell Chevrolet. We formerly listed 7.90/184.04 and 182.92 at the OCIR Mfg. Meet. We need to confirm the 7.90 and 184.80 speed.

AAFCC Racer. | Don was at Gulfport Dragway on April 12 for the NHRA Division 4 race. He qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field with a 6.79/204.54. He improved slightly, to 6.72/208.33 in the first round, but it wasn't enough to beat Jimmy Jones' 6.67/202. Gay ran much better at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals. There he set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a 6.32/220.58. A round one 6.35/220.31 beat Peter Gallen and in the semifinals, his6.34/220.69 beat Al DaPozzo's 6.36/217. In the final he faced Frank Manzo. They had a good close race with Manzo getting the win with a 6.32/220 over Don's runner-up 6.38/221.29.
