Notes: 1976 was an outstanding year in terms of performance for the Frantic Ford team. The Mustang II ran a best of 6.253/224.39 mph at Capitol Dragway in April, won the prestigious Dutch Classic, the Winston points race at Englishtown, the Funny Car Nationals at York, and made it to the semifinals of the NHRA Summernationals before losing to Don "The Snake" Prudhomme. The time slip for the 4/76 Capitol run was posted on Facebook. | Glenn ran really well at the NHRA Division 1 Opener race held at Englishtown. He qualified #1 for the eight-car field with a 6.35/203.16. The second qualifier was way back with a 6.61! He improved to a 6.32 (Low ET) in the first round at only 187.11 to beat Paul Smith in the "Entertainer." Dodger had trouble in round two and slowed to 7.78/142.85, but it was still enough to get around Marsh Bagg, who had his own problems. That put him into the final against the #2 qualifier, Pee Wee Wallace. Both smoked the tires heavily, but Glenn's 7.06/183.67 got the victory over Wallace's hard-charging 7.17/210. He was at Cayuga for the next Division 1 race, but things didn't go as rosy as his first-round 7.10/212.76 lost to eventual winner Stan Bowman's 7.01/183.

Notes: Qualified #9 at NHRA Gainesville at 6.540/213.77 and dropped a first-round decision to eventual winner Gordie Bonin, 6.27/225 to 6.63 (no speed recorded). Midway through the 1977 racing season, the team of Jim Fox & Fred Frey decided to break from active participation and the hectic pace of all-night traveling and running the car 2/3 dates per week, week in and week out. With an agreement with Fox and Frey, the entire operation was handed over to Dodger to run as his own deal. | Glenn competed at the Dutch Classic at Maple Grove on May 15. He didn't run quick enough to gain access to the final round, but he did run 6.52/209 in one race to beat "Jungle Jim" Liberman's 6.66/206. Glenn qualified on the "bump" at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals with a 6.47/222.70. In the opening round of eliminations, his opponent, Dale Emery, fouled. It should have been an easy win for Glenn, but he blew the motor on his 6.39/230.17 pass. The team installed a new "bullet" for the next round, but the car got out of shape, and he lost to Billy Meyer, 6.82 to 6.96/182.18. That was the team's last NHRA national event in 1977.

Notes: Glenn was at Maple Grove in April for its All-Pro Spring Funny Car Championships. It was an eight-car show. His 6.46/217.91 beat a wheelstanding Tom Prock in the "Detroit Tiger" in the opening round. The car failed to fire for the semifinal race against George Johnson. Near the end of the month, he was at York for its eighth annual Funny Car Nationals. In the opening round, he beat Tim Kushi with a 6.94. A 6.51 in round two defeated Bruce Larson. But Larson got back into the show on the "break rule," and the two faced off again in the semifinal. This time Larson won with a 7.00. Dodger also ran really well at Suffolk during an eight-car show. He had set Low ET at 6.42 and was up against Les Cassidy in the final. Unfortunately, Glenn crossed the centerline in their race and was disqualified. He also crossed the centerline at Atco's Factory Funny Car Showdown. This time it happened in the first round while he was racing Gary Burgin. On May 7, he was at Englishtown for the NHRA Division 1 opener. He qualified #5 in the eight-car field, and he faced low qualifier Jake Crimmins in round one. Dodger's 6.93/211.76 fell to Jake's 6.44/222. Sadly, the 1978 season would prove to be a heartbreaker. Dodger started with a brand new Mustang II fiberglass body that went skyward in May at Englishtown in a spectacular wheelstand that unlatched the body. He later lost his life after crashing a new Plymouth Arrow.

Notes: In June 1978, Dodger took delivery of a brand new chassis cloaked with a Plymouth Arrow body. Along with it came a new name: The Frantic Arrow and for the first time a Plymouth replaced the long standing tradition of Ford bodies. The team made some check-out passes at Capitol Dragway with the new car and everything was fine with the new operation. Dodger Glenn-the rising star of the 1970's east coast funny car wars whose light had burned so brightly, was taken from us without warning. During a second round match against future world champion Bruce Larson at Maple Grove Dragway in July 1978, Dodger suffered an engine explosion and subsequent crash which claimed his life. He was 33 years old with a wife and two young daughters. Dodger's memory will live on in the hearts and minds of all that knew him.

Notes: Glenn was at Irwindale for a sixteen-car show on April 2 and a 13.51/59.96 won his first-round match when Ray Ayres fouled. In the second round, Danny Ongais' 7.80/172 beat his 8.00/182.54. On June 19, he was at Riverside for the HRM Championships where a 7.70/209.30 qualified #23. He lost early. He finished runner-up to Jeep Hampshire at Irwindale on July 15. Another show was run at Irwindale on August 12; there a 7.81 qualified #3 in the eight-car field. Unfortunately, a first-round 7.99/169.81 lost to Steve Porter's 7.90/197. Glenn was a runner-up again on August 28 for an eight-car show at San Fernando. In eliminations he only had to run a best of 8.01/181.80 in the first round, as Bob Joy had problems and John Harbert fouled in the semifinals. A good 7.83 in the final was no match for James Warren's 7.49. At the Division 7 season finale at Irwindale on September 23, he again made it into the final. Glenn got there by advancing when Bob Hightower fouled in the first round, and in round two a 7.63/203.60 beat Porter. In the semifinals he actually lost to Harbert, but Harbert crossed the centerline and was disqualified. He was to run Rick Stewart in the final, but the team hurt the motor in the semis and was unable to show. He made it into another final at Irwindale on October 22 for the "Grand Prix" event. Glenn got into the final of the 32-car show by dropping Warren in the semis, but in the final a 7.59 pass by Dave Beebe gave him another runner-up effort. He ran his best numbers of 7.40/209.78 in qualifying #3 at Irwindale on November 19, but he fouled against Dave Babler in the first round.

Notes: Gerry was running well at Irwindale on May 27 for an eight-car show. He beat Don Hampton in the first round, with a 7.90/193.54 and a semifinal 7.86/194.38 beat Bob Noice's 8.04. This put him into the final against Norm Wilcox. The two had a good close race, but Glenn's 7.86 (Low ET) at 194.38 beat Wilcox's 7.88/195.

Notes: Qualified at Pomona Winters 67 at 7.378/210.76 (qualifying list confirms.) |Glenn had the weirdest race on February 12 at Irwindale. He qualified #2 in the eight-car field with a 7.21/216.86 and then lost in the first round, to James Warren's 7.23/107 with a 7.28/215.82. But Warren lost a motor so Gerry got back in on the "break rule." In the semifinals, he went into a series of wheelstands and lost to Jack Williams' 7.48/204. Then Jack's car broke and was unable to run in the final so once again Glenn was reinstated. There he faced Mike Snively in Roland Leong's "Hawaiian." Glenn was up to the task, running a 7.10/205.00 to beat Snively's 7.32/172 for the victory. He won at Irwindale again on April 8 for another eight-car event. This time he had to work for it. A 7.44/184.80 beat the Condit Brothers and Clark, while in the semifinals his 7.49 at 200 flat topped the "Tiki." In the final he was up against Dave Beebe in the "Beebe Brothers" car. Gerry got the win with a 7.55/204.54 beating Beebe's 7.88/190.

Notes: Atlas Oil Tool dragster set Lions track record at 6.63 on September 27/1969. Probably Gerry Glenn at the wheel. - Don Gillespie | Ran 7.11 at Bakersfield March Meet, 3/69. I have 6.61/209.79 bests for '69. Also 208.81 at Pomona Winternationals 2/69. | Glenn started the '69 season by qualifying third with a 7.43/214.78 at an eight-car show at Irwindale at January 12. He improved to a 7.39/213.76 to win his first-round race and in the semifinal he singled with a 7.54/193.96 when Wayne King failed to fire. That same problem got Glenn in the final when the Atlas Oil Tool car failed to start giving Glenn Woolsey the win. It should be noted that Gerry's car was still running a 354 Hemi at this time. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, a 7.07/208.81 qualified the team eighth. He made it past the first two rounds before losing to Jim Dunn's 6.97 in round three with a 7.12. A 7.20/226.13 was good for first alternate at the second OCIR All-Pro race on February 9, but the speed held up for Top Speed of the meet. At the Bakersfield March Meet, he lost to Bennie Osborn in the first round. Also in early March at Fresno's Winter Race of Champions, he set Low ET at 7.05 before losing to James Warren in the final in a 7.21/217 to 7.30/192.30 race. On to the HRM Championships at Riverside on March 16 where a 6.96 qualified sixth. Unfortunately, he lost to Larry Dixon's 6.87/217 in the first round. He lost again in the first round, at the final OCIR All-Pro race on March 29 when John Mulligan's 7.06/222 stopped him. On April 26, OCIR held an eight-car fuel tournament. Glenn advanced past the first-round when Larry Dixon fouled away Low ET (6.74) of the meet against him in the first round. Lou Baney's Ford, driven by Kelly Brown, beat him in the semifinal with a 6.85/222 to Glenn's 7.21/215.30. He traveled to Irwindale for another eight-car show on May 3. Again he made it into the semis before James Warren's 7.23/171 beat his sideways, never say die, 7.73/197.80. A pattern was developing when, at Lions on May 10 for yet another eight-car show, he found himself in the semifinals. This time, the car developed an oil leak and was shut off on the line giving Dixon a free ride into the finals. Back to OCIR on May 17 for a sixteen-car show, he qualified #1 with a 6.90 (the only car in the sixes in qualifying), but he sheared a pump drive and was unable to run his first-round single and was eliminated. The following week, on May 24, he showed up at Irwindale for the Division 7 Opener. A 7.01 beat Rick Ramsey in the first round, but once again problems arose and the car lost fire against Dixon in the second round.

Notes: Glenn failed to qualify on May 2 at Irwindale for an eight-car race, but he got in as an alternate. It did him little good as Jim Dunn's 6.83/201 put him on the trailer in the first round. On May 16, OCIR held a sixteen-car show. Gerry's 6.81/213.77 beat Kelly Brown (7.18/172) in the first round, but he was shut down on the line with an oil leak in round two. Another sixteen-car show was held on May 23 at Irwindale for NHRA's Division 7 race. Glenn fouled in the first round against Bill Alexander. He ran a lot better on June 6 for the Tom Ferraro Benefit race at Irwindale. He qualified #1 with a 6.82/207.36 and set Low ET with a first-round 6.74/215.30 over Bob Ivett (7.17/207). Don Moody fouled in the semifinal, so Glenn faced Gary Essman for the title. A final 6.87/219.50 won over Essman's ailing 9.48/90.62. He won again on June 20 at OCIR's March of Dimes event, beating Don Moody's 6.79/226.13 with a 6.78/215.82 in the final. The following week (June 28), he was at Fremont for the second NHRA Division 7 race. Glenn's 6.69 qualified #3. In the opening round, he defeated Jim Davis with a 6.77. Bill Tidwell lost a blower belt against him in round two, and his 6.91 advanced. He was late off the line in the semifinal, and his 6.73/201.34 lost to eventual winner Dave Uyehara's 6.82/223. At the Nitro Championships on July 3 at OCIR, he fouled against John Mitchell in the opening round. Another foul in the first round took him out of competition at Irwindale's July 4 Championships. On July 11 at AHRA's All-American at Lions, Glenn ran a first-round 6.75/194.80, but in the second round, Jim Dunn's 6.75/217.91 beat Gerry's quicker 6.72/216.86. The OCIR PDA Championships on July 25 were next on the list, and he ran a first-round 6.72/218.44 and a second-round 6.74/184.80 before losing to Tony Nancy's 6.82/215.31 in round three with a 6.94/211.76. He bagged another win on August 1 at the Gold Cup Championships at Irwindale. He qualified #1 with a 6.86/202.24, ran the Low ET of the meet with a 6.76/213.28 in the first round, over Bob Ivett (6.97). Gerry ran a second round 6.97/156.29 over Uyehara's quicker 6.93/217.90. In the semis, he singled with a 6.93/197.80 when Don Moody lost fire on the line. A 6.85/209.78 beat Steve Carbone in Mike Kuhl's car in the final. On August 9 at Bakersfield, he won again for the third NHRA Division 7 race, beating a sixteen-car field and winning over Dennis Baca in the final. The following week (August 15) at the OCIR Anniversary Race, Glenn ran an easy 7.26 when Tommy Allen lost fire, a Low ET of the meet 6.69/207.27 over Bob Williams (6.98/203.61) and a 6.73/205.47 over Jim Dunn's 6.86/212.26 in the semis. He was matched against Steve Carbone, who had debuted his own car here, in the finals. Carbone's 6.81/227.84 just beat Glenn's 6.80/217.91. At an eight-car show at Irwindale (Aug), Gerry lost in the semifinal when he broke a rear end. At Indy, for the NHRA US Nationals in September, Gerry ran a first-round 6.589 over a wheelstanding Hank Westmoreland. In the second round, he ran a 6.70 that lost to Jim Nicoll's 6.60/222. Thirty top fuelers tried for eight spots on October 24 at Lions. Glenn made the field, but his car failed to fire in round one, giving Tommy Allen a single. At the NHRA Supernationals, Glenn qualified third with a 6.73 and made it to the finals before losing to Rick Ramsey's 6.70/204 in the Keeling and Clayton car. - Ron Howard | Best NHRA national event times were 6.589 and 217.91. Gerry won the Division 7 title in 1970.

Notes: Drove for John Bateman in early 1970 before changing to the Schultz & Glenn car. Gerry started the season at Fremont's New Year's Day race. It was a sixteen-car show and in round one, he beat Jim Davis with a 6.89/217.38. In round two he went up against eventual winner John Wiebe and the "Atlas Oil Tool Special" blew an engine about 300 feet from the finish line. He coasted through at 7.57. On January 18, Gerry won the second OCIR All-Pro with a final round 6.88/207.00 over Norm Wilcox. He ran a first-round 6.75/216.34 over Tony Nancy (6.96/209.79) and made an easy run in the semis when James Warren fouled. He followed it up with another win on January 26 at Irwindale, beating Gary Cochran with Low ET of the meet in the final 6.84/216.86 to 6.96/219.50. Gerry set Low ET at the NHRA Winternationals while qualifying #1 with a 6.74/217.91, but he lost early. He qualified second at Bakersfield with a 6.75. Tony Nancy's 6.87/214 beat his 6.87/215.82 in round two. - Ron Howard

Notes: Gerry qualified #8 at Pomona for the Winternationals at 6.835/211.76. He won round one over Larry Henrickson, 6.94/209.30 to 6.99/205.94. He beat Dennis Baca in round two, 6.87/215.82 to 7.56/161.57. In round three, Jim Dunn got the better of him, 6.85/211.26 to 6.88/208.81. At Dallas for the Springnationals, Gerry qualified #4 at 6.537/214.79. Tuttle had joined the team at this point. Unfortunately, Gerry lost a close round one decision to Herm Petersen, 6.70/221.13 to 6.72/213.44. Glenn was at OCIR on July 3 for the Fourth Annual Nitro Championships. It was a sixteen-car field, and in the opening round, he set Low ET with a 6.54 at 212.26 to beat Bob Durbin's 6.78/209. But in the second round, he slowed to 6.95/200.44 in a loss to eventual winner James Warren's 6.65/222. He did much better on July 28 for the PDA Championships, also held at OCIR. Fifty-four cars were attempting to qualify for the 32-car field, and Glenn's 6.50 qualified #2 behind Rick Ramsey's impressive 6.41 in the "Keeling and Clayton" car. These two would end up meeting in the final. Glenn improved to 6.48 in the first round to stop Dwight Salisbury's 6.75, and in round two, he used a 6.52 to beat Chuck Flores' off-pace 7.71. In the third round, his 6.50 beat Norm Wilcox's 7.58; in the semifinals, a 6.54 beat Tony Nancy's 6.70. Pretty consistent times throughout eliminations. But then there was Ramsey; he had run 6.51, 6.42, 6.47, and 6.41 (again!) to reach the final. Smart money was on Ramsey. But that's why they race. In the final, Ramsey ran his worst, a 6.72 at a shut-off 185, while Glenn picked up the victory with a 6.50/220.58. At NHRA Indy, the team qualified strong at #7 with a 6.489/216.34. Unfortunately, Gerry fouled against Ron Colson in round one. The team turned it all around at the Amarillo World Finals. Gerry qualified #1 at 6.688/295.95. He had a bye run in round one and ran 6.81/181.08. In round two, Gerry took out Jim Paoli, 6.69/213.27 to 6.94/215.31. In round three, Dave Uyehara fell to his 6.66/215.31 with a 6.85/222.22. Jim Walther shut off to an 8.77/87.54 run in the semis that sent Gerry on a 6.72/203.61 win. In the final, Don Garlits fouled away a 6.55/222.22, and Gerry won the World Championship with a 6.59/227.27 (Top Speed). At the Ontario Supernationals, Gerry qualified #14 at 6.778/212.26. He beat John Rodeck in round one, 6.75/211.76 to 6.84/214.79. Dave Uyehara ended his season in round two with a holeshot win, 6.77/216.34 to 6.77/210.28. | The World Finals was highlighted by huge upsets, including Gerry Glenn over a red-lighting Garlits in Top Fuel. The win earned Glenn the 1971 NHRA Top Fuel World Championship. - NHRA

Notes: The Gerry Glenn driven Plueger and Gyger Mustang was one of the strongest Donovan-powered Funny Cars in '73. Most observers of the sport in '73 felt like the lower end of the Donovan failed to get the heavier Funny Car's off the line as well as it did in the Top Fuel dragsters. This team proved that that wasn't the case. Glenn's driving was good, but it wasn't just his driving that made the team win. The car was able to put down the numbers. He was out of a ride early in '73; in fact, he drove John Lombardo's car at the Bakersfield March Meet. But by May, he was in this ride. He won the Memorial Day Championships at Irwindale over another Donovan-powered FC, Roger Garten's "Warhorse. Both cars smoked the tires in the final, but Glenn's 7.06/191.39 got him the victory. Earlier, he had set Low ET at 6.59. He was runner-up to Bobby Rowe at Sacramento's NHRA Division 7 race. He qualified #1 for the 32-car field at the AHRA National Challenge race with a 6.48/214.79. The ET held for Low ET among FCs. "Jungle Jim," Liberman fouled against him in the opening round. In round two, Glenn's off pace 7.40 lost to Billy Meyer's 6.63. He was back at Irwindale for its Back to School race, where he set Low ET in qualifying #1 for the sixteen-car field with a 6.58. A first-round 6.66/204.08 beat Gervase O'Neil, while a tire-smoking 12.60 solo advanced in round two. Gerry's 7.03/201.79 beat Mike Halloran in the semifinals and moved him into the final against Mert Littlefield. These two were taking turns winning at Irwindale, and this time it was Mert's turn as his 6.68/216 got the victory over Glenn's crossed up, shutting off 7.83/141. At OCIR for the AHRA Western Nationals, he made it into the final against Tom McEwen, but the Mustang broke a rear end, giving the "Goose" the win. He qualified surprisingly slow (#15) at the Irwindale Grand Prix race. His troubles continued in the first round, where his 7.65/140.40 lost to Littlefield's 6.97/200. The team's next stop was at Fremont for the AHRA World Championships. It was a tough show as his 6.52 only qualified #6 in the sixteen-car show. A first-round 6.79 beat Dave Uyehara's quicker 6.65, and in round two, Charlie Therwhanger had to shut off on the line, and Glenn took a single. He advanced again in the semifinals when Dale Pulde had to shut Mickey Thompson's Grand Am off on the line for leaking oil. He was to face Ed McCulloch for the money, but the "Ace" had broken while beating Jim Dunn, so Dunn was reinstated on the "break rule" for the final. The race was good, but Jim's 6.61/215 got the measure over Glenn's 6.77/204.04. It was then back to Irwindale for the East-West Funny Car Championships. All cars there ran three rounds of racing. Glenn fouled against Meyer in his first race and then shut off. In his second race, he ran 6.48/211.76 to beat a fouling Richard Tharp in the "Blue Max" Vega. In the third race, the Mustang broke at half-track against Littlefield. Gerry also ran 6.56 at Irwindale.

Notes: Gerry ran this car at the Irwindale Grand Premiere on January 12. He qualified #2 with a 6.56, but got out of shape and lost to Jim Dunn in the first round. Jim's new Satellite broke on the run and Gerry was reinstated for round two where eventual winner Gordie Bonin beat him.
