Notes: Bob was at Topeka in June for the NHRA Western Nationals. He debuted his third car of the '94 season, a new Probe. Unfortunately, his 7.31/190.11 best ended up as the third alternate. He did better at Denver for the NHRA Mile-High Nationals. There, his 7.61/180.50 qualified #8. In round one, his 7.63/180.14 defeated Warren Johnson's 7.66/180. In round two, he fell off to 7.71/178.81 and lost to eventual winner Darrell Alderman's 7.56/182. Bob raced the Ford Probe after starting the season with a Thunderbird. Rick Howard photo from 1994 NHRA Oldsmobile Springnats, Columbus. Qualified 8th at 7.27/190.88. Defeated Troy Coughlin and Warren Johnson to reach semis. He lost to Scott Geoffrion's 7.23. Best times from NHRA Englishtown and Atlanta, respectively. (Bob actually duplicated the 194.88 at Englishtown).

Notes: The large Thunderbird was deemed too large for NHRA Pro Stock. Bob raced at the NHRA Winternationals. He qualified the car #8 with a 7.14/193.67 but broke in the first round, against Gary Brown. At the NHRA Quality Care Nationals, a 7.18/192.84 qualified #11. He got out of shape in the first round, and his 7.81/136.54 lost to Jim Yates' 7.14/192. Houston was NHRA's next stop for the Slick 50 Nationals. There Bob's 7.10/194.38 qualified #5. But once again, he lost in the first round, this time to Rickie Smith. The last race he ran the T-Bird at was the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified #12 with a 7.16/193.67, but he fouled away a 7.18/193.25 in the first round, against Frank Iaconio, who ran 7.21/191 for the win. Glidden was back in his Probe for the NHRA Winston Invitational in April.

Notes: Early in the year, Rusty got his Pro Stock license. During his licensing runs in his dad Bob's Probe, he ran a best of 7.59/183. The plan was to have Rusty drive at select NHRA events, but the plan went, of course, at Gainesville during the running of the Gatornationals. Rusty was helping his dad unload the Probe off the trailer. The car began to roll on the 12-foot high loading platform, and Rusty attempted to stop it. He ended up falling and breaking both wrists, the right one in two places. He would have to wear casts for the next six weeks. It wasn't until the end of July before Rusty got behind the wheel for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. He qualified on the "bump" with a 7.82/177.09, but in the first round, his 7.95/175.50 lost to Scott Geoffrion's 7.68/178. He was at Sonoma for the NHRA California Nationals but ended up the first alternate with a 7.32/189.79 best. Rusty qualified at Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals with a 7.23/190.23 (#11).

Notes: Photo from the 1993 NHRA Springnationals, National Trail Raceway. Did Rusty race the long T-Bird? Ran 7.255/189.93 Ennis 93? | Rusty started the '93 season by qualifying #10 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.23/191.85. In the first round, he faced his dad, and his Probe broke, giving Bob a single into round two. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, a 7.29/189.47 qualified #14. An off pace 7.33/186.76 lost to Kurt Johnson's 7.22/192 in the first round. Houston hosted the third NHRA event of the year, the Slick 50 Supernationals. Once again, Rusty qualified, running 7.15/192.51 for the #13 spot. In the first round, he beat Mark Pawuk's 7.18/192 with a 7.16/191.97. In round two, Larry Morgan's 7.20/190 beat his late 7.18/191.61. Rusty was probably still happy as he watched his father Bob win his 83rd NHRA National event victory. The next event was the Gatornationals, and while Bob failed to qualify, Rusty ran 7.15/193.59 to qualify #9. A first-round 7.25/191.32 lost to Vince Khoury's 7.22/191. The non-points race, the Winston Invitational, was NHRA's next stop. Rusty stayed strong, qualifying #12 with a 7.18/192.43. He had problems in the first round, and slowed to a 7.68/140.31 that lost to Kurt Johnson's 7.14/194. After that, it was off to Atlanta for the Southern Nationals, where he ran 7.22/192.18 to qualify #14. Once again, he lost to Kurt Johnson in the first round, where his 7.31/190.71 fell to Kurt's 7.22/187. The NHRA Mid-South Nationals was next, and for the first time this season, Rusty failed to qualify. His best of 7.30 was good for the sixth alternate spot. He had more bad luck at the next few events; at the Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown, his 7.21/193.34 best was the third alternate, and at the NHRA Springnationals, he was the second alternate with a 7.31/190.75 best. He was the fourth alternate at the Ninth event of the season, the NHRA Western Nationals, where his best was a 7.35/188.79. His dad won the next race, the Mile-High Nationals in Denver, but it did little to take away from his 7.72/178.18 (#4 alternate) non-qualifying effort. Rusty got back into the groove by qualifying #11 with a 7.24/190.75 at the California Nationals at Sonoma. He got around his pop in the first round, and beat Bruce Allen in round two before losing to Frank Iaconio in the semifinals. Then, one week later (August 8), he failed to qualify at the Northwest Nationals. His 7.28/189.31 best was the sixth alternate. He was the fourth alternate with a 7.35/188.40 best at Brainerd's Champion Auto Stores Nationals. He had attempted to qualify running the wedge motor they had been working on. After two runs with a best of 7.37, they pulled the wedge, installed the Boss 429 Hemi motor, and ran the 7.35. Rusty was the fourth alternate again at the US Nationals with a 7.28/190.23 best. After this, the Probe was parked, and Rusty ran the T-Bird.

Notes: Rusty's dad, Bob, had heart surgery over the Winter and Rusty drove his father's car early in the year. He did very well. On January 28, he was at Houston for the Conoco Pro Stock Super Bowl. He ran three consecutive 7.07's during eliminations to reach the final against George Marnell. In the final, he scored the victory with a 7.08. The following week (February 5), he was at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. A 7.13/194.51 qualified #13. In the opening round, he proved he could drive by getting out on Steve Schmidt and winning with a 7.15/192.67 over a quicker 7.11/195. But in round two, Scott Geoffrion's 7.12/194 beat his 7.18/192.84. Bob got back behind the wheel at the NHRA Arizona Nationals so Rusty was left without a ride, but not for long, as by the time they got to Houston for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals, the team had a car for him as well. Unfortunately, Rusty’s best of 7.09/195.99 was good for the third alternate. At the NHRA Gatornationals, three Glidden's qualified for the field. Rusty’s 7.06/195.99 got him the #7 spot in the show. He beat Rickie Smith in the first round, before fouling against Larry Morgan in round two.
