Notes: Confirmed 7.296 at Houston 3/90. Where was the 7.282 run? | Jerry qualified on the "bump" at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.40/186.56, but he in first-round, he fouled against Jerry Eckman. At the NHRA Arizona Nationals, he ran 7.33/188.32 to qualify #9. A sleepy 7.40/187.18 lost to Kenny Delco's 7.50/186 in the first round. Early in March, he was at Houston for the NHRA Supernationals where he ran 7.29/187.89 to qualify #8. Unfortunately, another 7.29 at 188.40 lost to Larry Morgan's quick-leaving 7.34/188. He continued to have problems getting past the first-round at the NHRA Gatornationals. Jerry was doing a great job qualifying for these events as they were tough to get into, but he was in a first-round rut. At Gainesville, his 7.33/188.56 qualified #6, but he lost to Scott Geoffrion in round one. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Southern Nationals, but he made the show at Memphis for NHRA's Mid-South Nationals. His 7.36/187.96 qualified on the "bump" and he lost to Darrell Alderman's Dodge in the first round. Jerry ran really strong at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals where a 7.35/187.96 qualified #6. But once again he lost in round one, this time to Rickie Smith. He failed to make the field at the NHRA Springnationals and he didn't make the trip to Canada for the NHRA Grandnationals. He was back on the tour for the NHRA Summernationals at Englishtown, but again failed to qualify.

Notes: Jerry Haas was a Chevy diehard. He even had Bill "Grumpy" Jenkins help him compete using the Chevy engine in Pro Stock. With Jenkins's help, he was able to qualify for 20 consecutive NHRA National events. Jerry was getting some funding from the Chevrolet Division, but at the start of the '91 season, Chevy cut back on its drag racing program. Haas needed something to help support his racing, so mid-way through the '91 season, Jerry switched to a new Olds Cutlass that got backing from the Oldsmobile Division. Jerry kicked off the 1991 season at Pomona with a nice #5 qualifying 7.278/189.39. He was upset by Tony Christian in round one, 7.34/188 to 7.39/188.56. He qualified @10 at Phoenix with a 7.358/187.57 but lost to a Larry Morgan holeshot in round one, 7.40/185 to Jerry's 7.38/185. Jerry qualified on the bump at the Southern Nationals in Atlanta at 7.387/186.02. he fell off to a 9.44 in a round one loss to Darrell Alderman. Jerry qualified #8 at Memphis with a 7.365/188.36. But again, a Larry Morgan holeshot got around him, 7.39/187 to 7.38/188. Jerry qualified #13 at Columbus at 7.390/186.72. He lost to Jim Yates in round one, 7.35/186 to 7.40/186.79. Jerry qualified on the bump at Sanair with a 7.314/188.48. Scott Geoffrion took a close 7.29/190 to 7.32/188.20 win over him in round one. Jerry qualified on the bump at Englishtown as well, running a similar 7.319/188.24. He lost to WJ in round one, 7.37/190 to 7.81/157. In Denver, Jerry qualified #13 at 7.78/176.33 and lost a close one to Bob Glidden in round one, 7.72/178 to 7.77/176. Jerry found the 7.20s again and eclipsed 190 mph in Sonoma, qualifying #9 with a 7.288 -191.40. Unfortunately, he was the victim of a massive Frank Iaconio holeshot in round one, and the 7.284/190.75 to 7.281/191.04 race was not that close. Jerry was the first alternate at Seattle with a 7.353/188.00. At Brainerd, he qualified #7 at 7.416/186.02, but Jerry Eckman got the holeshot win in round one, 7.39/187 to 7.363/186.83. Jerry qualified #13 at Indy at 7.368/187.07, but he fell to Morgan again in round one, 7.27/190 to 7.36/187. At Maple Grove, Jerry ran 7.298/188.71 to qualify #11, but his first-round woes continued as Mark Pawuk took the win, 7.25/189 to Jerry's 7.35/187. Jerry qualified #11 at Topeka as well, 7.297/189.47, but he got a round one win at 7.42/185 when Bruce Allen fell off to a 7.91/149. It was Jerry's turn to have troubles in round two, and Geoffrion took an easy 7.30/189 to 8.84/109 win. Jerry went 7.315/188.63 to qualify #13 at Ennis. In round one, he got a measure of revenge on Geoffrion with a huge holeshot win, 7.33/188.60 to 7.26/191. The giant-killing continued in round two, as Jerry treed Bob Glidden and held on for a close 7.36/187 to 7.34/189 victory. WJ ended the dream in round three with a 7.24/192 victory over Jerry's off-pace 9.28/99. After a thrill ride in Texas, Jerry's year ended a down note as his 7.320/189.91 was the first alternate at the World Finals. Jerry also ran the Rocky Watford Cutlass. Notes: Rick Howard photo from 1991 NHRA Oldsmobile SpringNats, Columbus, where Jerry qualified 13th at 7.39/186.72. He dropped round one to Jim Yates round one, 7.35/186 to 7.40/186.79. Jerry qualified on the bump at Sanair with a 7.314/188.48. Scott Geoffrion took a close 7.29/190 to 7.32/188.20 win over him in round one. Jerry qualified on the bump at Englishtown as well, running a similar 7.319/188.24. He lost to WJ in round one, 7.37/190 to 7.81/157. In Denver, Jerry qualified #13 at 7.78/176.33 and lost a close one to Bob Glidden in round one, 7.72/178 to 7.77/176. Jerry found the 7.20s again and eclipsed 190 mph in Sonoma, qualifying #9 with a 7.288 -191.40. Unfortunately, he was the victim of a massive Frank Iaconio holeshot in round one, and the 7.284/190.75 to 7.281/191.04 race was not that close. Jerry was the first alternate at Seattle with a 7.353/188.00. At Brainerd, he qualified #7 at 7.416/186.02, but Jerry Eckman got the holeshot win in round one, 7.39/187 to 7.363/186.83. Jerry qualified #13 at Indy at 7.368/187.07, but he fell to Morgan again in round one, 7.27/190 to 7.36/187. At Maple Grove, Jerry ran 7.298/188.71 to qualify #11, but his first-round woes continued as Mark Pawuk took the win, 7.25/189 to Jerry's 7.35/187. Jerry qualified #11 at Topeka as well, 7.297/189.47, but he got a round one win at 7.42/185 when Bruce Allen fell off to a 7.91/149. It was Jerry's turn to have troubles in round two, and Geoffrion took an easy 7.30/189 to 8.84/109 win. Jerry went 7.315/188.63 to qualify #13 at Ennis. In round one, he got a measure of revenge on Geoffrion with a huge holeshot win, 7.33/188.60 to 7.26/191. The giant-killing continued in round two, as Jerry treed Bob Glidden and held on for a close 7.36/187 to 7.34/189 victory. WJ ended the dream in round three with a 7.24/192 victory over Jerry's off-pace 9.28/99. After a thrill ride in Texas, Jerry's year ended a down note as his 7.320/189.91 was the first alternate at the World Finals. Jerry also ran a Beretta at the beginning of the year before switching to a Cutlass. Was the Rocky Watford Cutlass the one he ran in the second half of the year? Or another one of his own? We need to confirm at which events he ran each car.
