Notes: Hilton failed to qualify at the IHRA Winternationals but got into the show when Marvin Graham could not run. Unfortunately, in the first round, a 6.54/218 did him no good against Dick LaHaie's 6.18/224. He was at Rockingham early in May for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. He qualified #5 and shut down against low qualifier and eventual winner Graham in the opening round. Hilton qualified #7 at Bristol for the IHRA Springnationals with a 5.90/247.25. Notes: Photo from Pop Rod 1982. Hilton did not run at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, but he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals where he qualified #8 with a 6.10/224.43. Unfortunately, he lost to John Force in the first round. Atlanta held an eight-car race in early April and Bobby made it into the final before he shut off to a 9.71 runner-up effort against Dale Pulde's winning 5.99. He was also runner-up to Al Hanna at Maple Grove's Spring All Pro Series Funny Car Championships. Ron Swearingen was his crew chief there and he ran 6.51/224.83 (Top Speed) in qualifying.
