Notes: Photo from the 1976 NHRA Gatornationals, Gainesville, Florida. On May 9, Hobson was at Englishtown for the NHRA Division 1 opener. He qualified #3 with an 8.90, and in the first round, his 8.87/153.06 beat Don Campanello's 9.10/149. Unfortunately, in the semifinal, he fouled against the eventual winner Larry Lombardo. Carl won an NHRA Pro Stock Circuit race at Great Meadows, N.J., on May 29. It was an eight-car show, and in the first round, he beat Bob Ingles with a 9.02/153.32. In the semifinals, his 8.98/152.80 beat Tom Gray. The final was against the similar big-block Camaro of Richie Zul. Hobson got a slight holeshot, and his 8.98/153.84 got the victory over Zul's 8.97 at just 144. |
