Notes: Jimmy qualified #1 for the 32-car field at Beeline Dragway for the AHRA Winternationals with a 6.93. In the first round, his 7.02/193.94 advanced. Unfortunately, he lost to Ron Goodsell in round two. At the NHRA Winternationals, he qualified #23 with a 7.18/220.58. But in the first round, his 7.48/212.76 lost to Don Cook's 7.22. King borrowed Frank Federici's engine to put into his "Shark" Corvette at New England on May 11. Frank only made one pass, a 7.99/182. Maybe King and Marshall were thinking ahead about going FC racing. King and Marshall scored a big victory over Don Prudhomme on May 18 in New England. It was a best of three match, and the "Snake" won the first race with a new track record 6.82. In the second race, King reset the track record with a 6.76 at 218 to beat Prudhomme's 6.89/216. Jimmy won the match. On May 31, Capitol held an eight-car show, and Jimmy set Low ET at 6.97 in qualifying #1. He fouled against Bub Reese, who was driving the "Wheeler-Dealer" in the semifinal, but he got back into the final when Sarge Arciero blew his engine and crashed while winning his semifinal race. Once again, Reese and King lined up, this time for all the marbles, but Reese again got the win, with his 7.13/222 topping King's 7.30/216. Bristol was the next stop for the team for the AHRA Springnationals. Jimmy qualified #7 in the sixteen-car field and lasted until round two, where his quicker 7.06 lost to Preston Davis' 7.09. On August 24, Jimmy went to Connecticut and set a 6.84 track record. He had already held the mph mark at 227.84. Also 220.58 at Pomona Winternationals 2/69. |

Notes: Jimmy qualified #17 at Pomona at 6.907/216.34. He upset low qualifier Norm Wilcox in round one with a 6.97/213.27 to 6.93 holeshot. He defeated Herm Petersen in round two with a consistent 6.93/213.27 to Herm's 7.40/213.77. King & Marshall kept on rolling in round three with a 6.82/218.44 defeat or Don Moody at 8.55/126.40. Kenny Safford ended Jimmy's day with his own holeshot in the semis, 6.85/217.91 to 6.79/218.44. The promise Jim showed at Pomona paid off in Gainesville. He qualified #4 at 6.590/221.13. In round one, Jimmy took out Jim Hundley, 6.67/225.56 to 6.88/220.58. Marvin Schwartz did not show for their round two matchup, and Jimmy rolled through at 7.25/139.96. He beat Bob Gibson in round three, 6.64/223.32 to 7.36/178.92. In the final, Jim was up against the always-tough Sarge Arciero. He strapped more than a tenth on him at the start, earning a 6.905/178.57 to 6.803/217.91 holeshot victory. King qualified #15 at the Summernatinoals at 6.895 (no speed). He lost to Jim Harnsberger in round one, 6.91/199.11 to 6.93 (no speed). That was the team's last NHRA national event of the year. King & Marchall had blower straps before many other cars.
