Notes: Larry was the second alternate at the NHRA Fallnationals with a 6.52/206.89. The following week (October 12), he was in Las Vegas for the NHRA Division 6 final. A 6.92/193.96 qualified #9, but he fell off to 7.17/191.89 in the opening round and lost to Walt Rhoades' 6.49/205. Shortly after that, he was at Pomona for the NHRA World Finals, where he was the seventh alternate with a 6.60/207. Did Larry run the 6.381 in 1985 or 1987? It would have been a top ten run in 1985 (and impressive in 1987 as well). Where did he run these times?

Notes: Original pre-Internet draglist entry. Listed times from Drag Racing List December 86/January 87, Volume 1, Number 9. | Larry was at Green Valley Raceway in mid-February for the NHRA Division 4 race. It was supposed to be a sixteen-car field, but only 13 showed. Klinger qualified #1 with a 6.57/200.89. He got the "odd-lot" solo in the first round, and ran 6.63/200.00. In the next round, his 6.55/208.33 beat Ron Dudley and in the semifinals, he set Low ET and Top Speed with a 6.54/209.30 to advance over a fouling Bubba Sewell. This put him into the final against Troy Buff. The two had a good race, but Larry's 6.55/208.81 got the victory over Troy's 6.60/205. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Sportsnationals at Bowling Green where he was the fourth alternate with a best of 6.76/207.01. He also attempted to qualify at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals, but his best of 6.65/203.16 was good for the sixth alternate for the eight-car show. | Did Larry really run a 6.287 in February at Green Valley?
