Notes: Ran 9.64 at OCIR and 9.680/142.63 at Tulsa. | Mopar lovers had it all their way in the first couple of years of Pro Stock. The 'Cudas, Challengers, Dusters, and Demons were winning everything. Then there was this guy, Bob Lambeck. He took an old Super Stock Dart and converted it into a Pro Stock, and made it run faster than it should have. He won a lot of events with the old Dart, but a new ride had to come. Lambeck had this new Duster running in January for the first OCIR All-Pro race. He lasted until the final, where his off-pace 10.15/136.15 lost to Butch Leal's 9.56/144. He lasted until the semifinals at the next All-Pro race. He then went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where he qualified in the top half (#11) of the 32-car field. He lasted until round two before losing to Ronnie Sox. Bob had the misfortune of qualifying #5 at the third OCIR All-Pro race. That set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Leal which he lost. Lambeck faced Leal again, but this time it was in the final for the Bakersfield March Meet. Bob pushed the 'tree a little too hard and fouled. A week later (March 12), these two was in the final at Fremont for the AHRA Northern Nationals. Lambeck out qualified Leal with a 9.53 compared to Butch's 9.56. They were behind Ken Dondero's 9.44 in Don Nicholson's Maverick. Bob beat Ed Terry, and in round two, his 9.56/144.23 beat Dave Atkins. He had a tough foe in Bill Bagshaw in the semifinals, but Bill broke a driveshaft, and Lambeck advanced. Leal had run a track record 9.40 in his semifinal win, so he was looking good, but he reversed the outcome of a week earlier by fouling. Bob got the victory with a 9.52/142. At the final OCIR All-Pro race, it was expected to be another close race between these two. They qualified one-two with Leal's 9.64 getting the pole over Lambeck's 9.68. Bob quickened his pace with a 9.64 of his own in the first round. Things were going according to plan until the semifinals, where Leal broke a rod and lost while Lambeck went 9.68 to trailer Bob Anderson. He then faced Ken Van Cleve for the money, and Ken fouled, giving Bob's 9.72/142.40 the win. He finished runner-up to Sox at the IHRA 1/8 Mile Championships at Charlotte. He competed at The IHRA Pro-Am Championships, where he lasted until round two before Sox's 9.45 beat his 9.56.

Notes: Bob started his '73 season at OCIR on January 21 for the second All-Pro race. It was an eight-car field, and his 9.60 qualified #4. He improved to 9.51/145.16 in the opening round to beat Larry Johnson, but a even better 9.48/145.86 lost to Larry Huff's 9.49/145 in the semifinal. The following week, he was at Beeline Dragway for the AHRA Winternationals. He qualified #6 with a 9.38/147.54. A 9.53/144.69 won in the opening round of eliminations. In the second round, his 9.58/143.51 lost to Wayne Gapp's 9.28/143. At Pomona's 32-car show for the NHRA Winternationals, Lambeck's 9.538/147.29 qualified #9. He won his first-round race with a 9.602/145.16 over Mike Johnson's 10.62/135 and ran 9.684/144.69 when Melvin Yow failed to show in time. But in round three, his ailing 10.946/91.74 lost to Don Carlton's 9.50/145. That was Bob's last NHRA national event of the year. Shortly after that, he was at Holtville Raceway for its Pro Stock Championships. A 9.65 qualified #2 in the eight-car show behind Ken Van Cleave's 9.52. His 9.60 advanced in round one, but he fouled against Dale Falk in the semifinal. Lambeck ran well at the Bakersfield March Meet, where he reached the final. He qualified #4 in the eight-car field with a 9.66. An opening round 9.50/146.10 defeated Mike Johnson, and he got a lucky break in the semifinal when Butch Leal's Duster broke a U-joint. He faced Huff in the final, and Larry's 9.47 scored the victory over his 9.60 runner-up effort. The following weekend, he was at Fremont for the AHRA Northern Nationals. This was a sixteen-car show, and he ran well, lasting until the second round before losing to the race's eventual winner Dick Landy. On March 24, he was back at OCIR for the final All-Pro race. This was another sixteen-car show, and his 9.25 qualified #1. In the first round, he ran a career-best 9.23 at 145.86. But then, after clearing the traps, his engine blew, and oil got under the tires. He ended up crashing and totaling the car. He received a broken left leg and lacerations.
