Notes: One-of-a-kind steel Willys with glass components ran as an AA/FA with blown 400 CID (0.30-over 392) fuel motor set back 25 percent, direct drive and a solid rear end. Fascinating feature in 4/67 Drag Racing magazine details a year of continuing problems sorting out the extremely ill-handling car, miraculously never crashing. Originally finished in '66, but did not complete a full run until '67. Handling issues solved when Chuck Finders talked them into replacing the direct drive with a Torqueflite, and to spring the rear. | John was at Irwindale on July 23 for an eight-car show. The Willys ran well hitting 8.63/170.13 in the first round, to beat Butch Pipins and 9.00/168.85 in the semifinals over Henry Harrison. He faced Bob Walker in the "Super Rat" in the final and his 8.63/170.77 finished second best to Walker's 8.58/172.

Notes: One-of-a-kind blown fuel altered coupe. Ran 400 cid (0.30-over 392) early hemi. Not a gasser. More of a funny car with a vintage Willys body. The handling issues were cured when the team switched from direct drive and solid rear to Torqueflite and sprung rear during the 1967 season. Don Montgomery's "Those Wild Fuel Altereds" says the car was retired when owner Bill Henderson switched to a modified roadster in 1968. TWFA cites times of 8.63 and 172.41. Featured in the 4/67 issue of Drag Racing.

Notes: Lee made his Pro Stock debut at Brainerd for the NHRA Northstar Nationals where he was driving a Former Jerry Eckman Firebird. He was the fifth alternate with a 7.360/185.72 best. Notes: Lee failed to qualify for the opening event of the '82 season, the AHRA Winternationals. She ran a best of 6.75. She ran almost a second faster at the NHRA Winternationals, where a 5.79/245.23 qualified #8. A first-round 5.92/224.43 beat Doug Kerhulas' 6.23/223, and in the second round, a 5.86/226.13 beat Mark Oswald's close 5.89/242. In the semifinals, she smoked the tires to a 7.33/123.79 and lost to Dick LaHaie's 5.93/234. At the Gatornationals, she qualified #13 with a 5.94/233.60, but a first-round 6.44/221.12 lost to Don Garlits' 6.02/244. Lucille made a big splash at the Famoso for the Bakersfield March Meet. A 5.88/236.22 qualified #8, and a first-round 5.92/240 advanced when Larry Sutton broke. In round two, a 5.86/238.09 beat Butch Blair. She stepped up to a 5.65 (Low ET and track record) at 243.24 to beat Doug Kerhulas' 6.20/223. In the final, she met the first lady of drag racing, Shirley Muldowney. In the final, Lee took the victory with a 5.79/236.22 over Shirley's 5.93/240. She didn't have long to wait before she won her next race. That next win came at Atlanta on April 25 for the NHRA Southern Nationals. It was an eight-car show that had a 5.84 bump. Lee qualified second to her "teammate" Steve Hodkinson with a 5.750/244.56. She then was runner-up to Shirley Muldowney at Columbus. Lucille was a TR-3 secretary. Jolly Rancher also sponsored.
