Notes: Wyman attempted to qualify for the Gatornationals, but his best of 8.06/170.13 failed to make the show. He qualified #8 at Darlington for the IHRA Winternationals with an 8.06, but he lost to Gary Duckworth in the first round. He also attempted to make the eight-car show at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, but he ended up the third alternate with an 8.05/170.45 best. He ran really well at the second Division 2 race, finishing runner-up to Warren Johnson and setting Low ET in the final with a 7.91/168.22 that lost to WJ's holeshot 7.95/166. The team came out with a new Arrow at Indy (confirm when the Arrow arrived).

Notes: Photo from Green Valley WWCS meet. Bill started the year at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals where he qualified #3 with a 6.64/205.94. He went on to win by beating Bret Bramley with a 6.63/207.37 and in round two his 6.68/206.89 advanced when Chauvin Emmons fouled. His biggest challenge came in the semifinals where he faced low qualifier Brian Raymer. Barney prevailed with a 6.57/210.28 over Raymer's 6.63/207. In the final he ran 6.59/209.30 to get the victory over Dave Hage.

Notes: Bill started the year by winning the NHRA Division 6 Opener at Firebird Raceway. He qualified #5 for the eight-car show with a 6.56/203.61. Low qualifier Dave Hage fouled against him in round one, and Bill advanced with a 7.53/126.22. In the semifinals he ran another 6.56 at 208.33 to beat Dave Hansen's 6.58/205. This put him into the final against Denny Lucas. Barney got the victory with a 6.48/208.81 when Lucas fouled. He then went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals and almost pulled it off again. He set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a 6.35/210.77. A 6.50/208.33 beat Steve Faria in round one, while a 17.06/46.43 advanced past a fouling Stephen Fedele in round two. He picked up to 6.46/209.10 in the semifinals to beat Mark Vasquez's 6.57/210. Unfortunately, Barney fouled away a 6.58/208.81 in the final against Hage who shut off to 12.17/64 for the win. He didn't have to wait long before he won again. Bill went to Green Valley Raceway for the NHRA Division 4 Opener on March 3. He ran 6.41/208.33 to qualify #2 and then ran 6.48/205.94 over Bruce Walker's 6.84/182 in round one. In the semifinals, a 6.52/204.08 beat Troy Buff's 6.95/189. This set up a final round meeting with Bubba Sewell. Bill was too strong on this day and his 6.57/204.54 scored the victory over Bubba's 6.64/192. He qualified #4 at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals with a 6.47/208.42, but he lost in the first round, when he fouled against Butch Osmon.

Notes: Per Wikipedia, the NHRA Winternationals TA/D final pitted Denny Lucas against Bill Barney. Lucas's dragster did a wheelstand yet still managed a pass of 6.312 seconds and 216 mph, precisely to the thousandth, the same as Barney's. The win was initially given to Barney, but after examining the videotape recorded by Diamond T Sports, it finally went to Lucas. Bill ran 219.08 at NHRA Pomona in January but improved at the NHRA Winston Finals to 219.24. Qualified #6 at 6.349/216.19 at NHRA Indianapolis IN 9/05/87.

Notes: Rick Howard photo from 1992 NHRA SpringNats, Columbus. Qualified 9th at 6.11/225.22. No elimination info. Bill was at Houston in March for the NHRA Slick 50 Nationals. He qualified #3 with a 5.98/228.94. In the first round Shelly Anderson fouled against him and Bill advanced with a 6.03/229.47. In round two he ran another 5.98 at 229.59 to beat Gene Boul's 6.01/229, but an off-pace 6.19/228.42 in the semifinals lost to eventual winner Blaine Johnson's 5.99/228. He was at Atlanta Dragway on March 15 for the NHRA Division 2 Opener. Bill qualified #3 with a 6.05/223.93 and from there he worked his way to the final of the eight-car show by beating a fouling Gary Unger and Darrell Russell with times of 18.85/35.92 and 6.19/222.00. He faced low qualifier Johnson in the final and Barney gave him a good race, but his 6.11/222.44 finished runner-up to Blaine's 6.09/223. At the NHRA Gatornationals, a 5.97/229.41 qualified #2 and a 6.15/223.88 advanced over a wheelstanding Mike Harbaugh in round one. He beat Mike Kosky's 6.10/226 in round two with a 6.06/225.56. Unfortunately, he fouled away a 6.01/226.81 against Tom Pischinger's 6.23/219 in the semifinals. Bill started the month of April at Rockingham for the second NHRA Division 2 race. He qualified #4 in the eight-car field with a 6.04/225.33. A 6.12/224.04 in the first round, beat Bill McCornack's Rodeck powered car at 6.17/223. But in the semifinals, Bill's 6.17/223.21 lost to Johnson's 6.05/226.

Notes: Bill qualified #11 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.95 at 233.88 mph. Bobby Taylor fouled against him in the first round, and Barney advanced at 5.94/237.09. In the second round, his off-pace 6.25/175.30 lost to Tim Capaldi's 6.09/223. He then went to Firebird Raceway for the NHRA Arizona Nationals, where his 5.87/239.29 qualified #5. Another 5.87 at a whomping 242.39 (Top Speed) beat Larry Sutton's 6.06/225 in the opening round. Shawn Hyland fouled against him in round two, and Bill shut down to 16.28/90.42 to advance. However, he struggled in the semi-final and dropped to 8.37/103.79 in a loss to Brooks Brown's 5.98/222. If his speed had been impressive there, Houston was something else.
