Notes: Ken was at Beech Bend for the NHRA Division 3 race. He qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field with a 6.73/205.01. Unfortunately, the car broke against Al DaPozzo in the first round. The car was built in 1985 and made big waves in the sport in 1986 and 1987. We need best 1985 times. We also need to confirm the year of Ken's top ten finish.

Notes: Six Rodeck-powered cars qualified at Beech Bend for the NHRA Sportsnationals. His 6.51/213.37 qualified #6. Denny Lucas fouled against him in the opening round, and Lowe ran 6.89/202.47 to advance. In the second round, his 6.55/210.97 lost to Bill Walsh's 6.51/214. | In August, Ken qualified #1 at the WDRS at Central Michigan Dragway with a 6.32/218.44. He would Race #5 qualifier Mike Kosky in Round 1. Lowe ran a 6.36/217.91 to advance over Kosky's losing 6.51/213.27. In the Semis, Lowe faced #3 qualifier Don Woosley, where Lowe ran another 6.30 with a 6.38/216.86 to advance to the Final with Lane choice over #6 qualifier Bill Walsh. Unfortunately, Lowe would Red light giving the event victory to Walsh & to compound it, Lowe kicked the rods out of his Rodeck in the process. | Ken was back at Beech Bend for the NHRA Division 3 final. His 6.48/210.78 qualified #3. He ran 6.47/209.30 in the first round to beat Eldon Slick. In the semi-final, low qualifier Al DaPozzo fouled against him, and he ran an easy 7.92/108.43 to advance. He was to go up against Doug McCan in the final, but Doug could not repair his car in time, so Ken ran a solo 17.44/56.96 for the victory. Shortly after that, he was at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals. He set Low ET in qualifying with a 6.33/218.92. Notes: This car raced from 1985 to 1988. Ken ran 6.372/213.92 at NHRA Indianapolis, IN, on 9/05/87. The car ran a best of 6.266 at Dallas on October 2, 1987. That made it the quickest Chevrolet (non-Hemi) ever. Today it is still the quickest standard helix non-hemi ever. My good friend Mike Kosky came very close with a 6.269. Today all the cars use screw blowers, and the performances reflect this. Some stats of the car and team are listed above in the inset. The car had a 245-inch wheelbase and weighed 1810 lbs. The engine was a 437 cubic inch Rodeck big block Chevrolet-style engine. Ron Backman and Fred Mandoline created the billet heads. We ran both Gene Mooneyham and Mert Littlefield blowers. Power was applied to the Lenco transmission via an L&T clutch. The car had several innovative features for its day. The body panel you see in front of the wheels was the fuel tank. Notes: Lowe had the only Rodeck-powered car to qualify at the NHRA Southern Nationals. His 6.48/202.11 qualified #7 for the eight-car field. Bill Barney broke against him in the first round, and Ken advanced with a 6.59/193.38. In the semi-final, his 6.50/207.51 lost to Jeff Rapp's 6.45/217. The following week (May 1st), he was at Indianapolis for the NHRA Division 3 opener. His Rodeck had lots of company as four qualified for the eight-car show. Ken's 6.42/216.03 was the quickest in qualifying, getting the #3 spot in the field. Unfortunately, in the first round, he fouled against Earl Datweiler and shut down to 7.20/140.13. At the second NHRA Division 3 race held at Great Lakes Dragway, Lowe's 6.86/181.81 qualified on the "bump."
