Notes: This was one of the four 2% cars constructed for the 1965 Winternationals in Pomona. Owned by Dick Branstner, his shop converted it to full AWB right after that event. Lindamood drove it in the spring with good publicity, but it was the first to lose factory backing after doing wheelstands and playing with fuel after factory coordinator Dale Reeker's telegram banning those activities. Branstner sold it to "Mr. Norm" Kraus, who ran it first as an injected car with Jim O'Connor driving, then swapped in his supercharged combination, which Gary Dyer drove to an 8.63 at Lions in October. Ran through part of the 1966 season. Disposition is unknown - DD | On April 11, Roger faced off against Hubert Platt in a best of five match race at Aquasco. Hubert won the first two races with a holeshot 10.85/125 in the first race that beat Roger's quicker 10.62/131.00, and a 10.71/124 won the second race when Lindamood fouled away a 10.58/131. Then Roger won the third race with a 10.52/132. Platt's Falcon broke two valve springs in the fourth race and slowed to an 11.77 that lost to the Dodge's 10.60/131. Lindamood soloed in the final race to win the match, but he pulled a huge wheelstand that broke his oil pan when it landed. On June 5, Lindamood was in Detroit, where he faced off against Mike Buckel, who was driving the "Ramchargers" car. It was to be a best of five match. Mike's 10.32 won in the first race when Lindamood went into a wheelstand and shut down. In the second race, Roger's 10.26/138.50 got the win. But Buckel came back to win the next two races and the match with a 10.04 best.

Notes: Hilborn-injected fuel, TorqueFlite, 117" Jay Howell frame. The car debuted in Detroit July-August of 1966 for sale early in 1967. 2/3/67 Drag News for sale ad says the car ran 8.58/165.00, probably in 1966. Confirmed 8.63/163.83 at Capitol 1966 per 11/11/66 Drag News. Lindamood was at Cecil County for a best of three match against Del Heinelt, driving the "Seaton's Shaker" Corvair. Unfortunately, the Charger broke on a warm-up pass and was unable to run. Tom Prock filled in with his fuel-burning Willys. The next day Roger faced Arnie Beswick at Grand Bend for a best of three match race. Arnie's 9.17/150 won the first race over the Charger's 9.68/148.76. In the second race, Roger soloed with a 9.37/149 when Beswick's Tempest lost fire. In the last race, Arnie went into a huge wheelstand and lost to Lindamood's 10.61. September 10 was not a good day for Lindamood. He met up with Malcolm Durham for a best of three match at National Trail. Durham's little Corvair beat the Charger two straight as Roger's best was 10.58/139 in the first race, while the car could only muster an 11-second time in the second race. The car did much better the following week (September 16) at 75/80 Dragway, where Roger beat Del Heinelt, driving the "Seaton's Shaker" for another best of three match. Roger beat the Corvair two straight with a best of 8.90/157.89. He got beat three straight at Detroit on September 25, where Hubert Platt got to him. Hubert ran 8.9's in all three races while Lindamood ran a fouling 9.13/155 in the first race, a 9.11/155.70, and a 9.13/154.10. By October, Roger was getting the hang of his Charger, and at Capitol, when he showed up to race Phil Bonner in a best of three match, he was no longer the underdog. In the first race, Roger's driving got the win when his quick-leaving 8.85 beat Bonner's quicker 8.82. He lost the second race when he fouled, but he ran 8.63/163.93. He won the match with a final 8.71/162.74 when Bonner's Mustang ruptured a fuel line. 1966 (2/3/67 Drag News Ad).

Notes: Lindamood's '66 car had weighed 2,500 lbs. His '66 car still used a steel body, while this new Charger used a fiberglass body to help lighten the load. Another difference was how far back the engine now sat in the chassis. The old car had the engine moved back 12 inches, while his new car had it sitting back 24" for better weight transfer. Roger was at Fontana on January 7 for an eight-car show. While he and 34 others failed to qualify, he still got Top Speed of the meet with a 182.18. He was at Detroit Dragway on March 12 for a best-of-three-match race against Hubert Platt's Mustang. It was not a good outing for Lindamood as he lost two straight. On May 10, Lindamood split the winnings with Dave Strickler at the Cecil County Factory Showdown. He had beaten Bill Lawton in the first round with an 8.70/166.35. In round two, an 8.41 beat Jack Chrisman's quicker 8.32, but this was the race that had Arnie Beswick's car roll through the guardrail and catch fire in the first round, and in round two, Don Nicholson's Comet had gotten airborne, and the body ripped from the frame. The chassis with Don along for the ride ended up in a marsh that ran alongside the track. Don and Arnie were both OK, but it was too late (12:45) to run the final round due to the lengthy cleanups, and Strickler and Lindamood split the purse. Roger was at Aquasco for a ten-car show on May 21. In the first round, he fouled away an 8.78/167.91 against Chrisman's 8.72/155. Roger was at Gary, Indiana's US 30, on May 28 for the UDRA Championships. This race ran only fuel-burning injected cars. Lindamood set Low ET at 8.33, but he lost after winning his first round with an 8.76/166.97. He ran well at an eight-car show at Martin, Mich on July 1. He fouled away an 8.56/167 in the first round against Lew Arrington's "Brutus," but the Pontiac crossed the centerline, and Roger was back in the show. He beat a somehow reinstated "Brutus" again in the semifinals to apparently make the final against "Dyno" Don. But rain interrupted the proceedings, and due to his Low ET (8.15), Nicholson was awarded the win. On July 9, Roger ran a best two out of three at Salem against Kelly Chadwick. The Charger won two straight with times of 8.83/172 and 8.84/169. Roger won the UDRA race at Alton on July 19, where he also set Low ET at 8.26. Shortly after that (July 22), he was at Cecil for a four-car show. He cut a great light in the first race, and his 8.19/172.41 beat "Fast Eddie" Schartman's 8.09/170. In his second race, Nicholson gated him, and his 8.15/176.81 lost to "Dyno's" slower 8.18/171. There were no other races run. Roger also won the UDRA Circuit race at New York Nationals. He was running 8.2's at 173 and defeated Pete Gates' Comet in the final. We listed initially at 8.34/178.57. We replaced those times with OCIR Mfg. Meet times of 8.15/184.42 at OCIR on 11/25/67. Was it the same car? Jay Howell frame, late hemi, TorqueFlite. The car was advertised for sale in very early '67. Was it still injected or blown at this point? It would determine A/XS or S/XS. The motor was set back 18 inches, so he sat beside the engine. Also had a push-button selector mounted by the seat for the Torqueflite transmission. It also had a VW front Axle. It was powered by a fuel-injected 427 Chevy and a Chrysler 8.75 rear end.

Notes: Roger Lindamood raced funny cars from the very beginning. He won Super Stock at the US Nationals at Indy, but he went the funny car route like other racers. Roger's Charger relied on the same chassis from '67 to '68 but obviously went from injectors to blowers. I know that Lindamood experimented with having the injector hat reversed. It was a failed experiment in air turbulence, I guess. Low 8s and high 7s were the norm. By 1968, Lindamood was racing the beautiful full-size "Color Me Gone" 1968 Charger. Logghe Stamping Company built the Charger, and Al Bergler did the tin for the massive body. The paint featured layers of pearl white and a wild rainbow paint scheme on top. A 426 Chrysler Hemi backed by a TorqueFlite transmission powered the behemoth. Lindamood ran a 7.73 at 193.12 with the full-size Charger in 1968. He raced at OCIR Mfg. Championships 1968. Info from Bill Duke and James Ibusuki) | Lindamood started the season at the New Year's Day race at Irwindale, where he qualified on the bump for the 16-car field with an 8.52, but he lost early. On January 28 at Lions for the AHRA Winternationals Funny Car race, he qualified #6 out of a field of 32 with an 8.20/180.00 and ran a first-round 7.97/180 before losing in the second. He then went to Pomona, where he qualified for Super eliminator(there was no Funny Car class), but he had problems with the car and could not compete. At Carlsbad on February 25 for the South Coast Funny Car Championships, he went all the way to the finals with an 8.34/180 best before fouling against Jim Liberman. He lost to Tom Grove's 7.79 in the first round at the Cecil County Fuel Showdown on May 18, running an 8.10/179.64 in the loss. On July 4, Roger set a Union Grove speed record of 190.46. He was at Gary, Indiana, on July 30 for an eight-car show. He needed only a 11.97 to advance in round one when his competition fouled. In the semifinals, his 8.05/186.26 lost to Don Schumacher's 7.70. Roger was at Norwood, MA, on August 11 for a best of three match against Bill Lawton. It was a 1/8 mile track, and in their first race, Lawton's 5.31/145 beat Lindamood's 5.37/152. Both ran 5.01 in the second race, with the Charger picking up the track speed record with its 155.17 top end that managed to cross the stripe before the Mustang. Roger wrapped up the match by winning the final race with a 5.14/153 that covered Lawton's 5.32/142. On September 1 at Minnesota for their 8-car Funny Car meet, Roger ran a first-round 7.86/193.12 (track speed record) that beat Don Schumacher's (8.19/181.08) Charger. But he fouled away a 7.80/191.88 against Grove (7.72/191.48) in the semis. On September 14, Roger faced off against Pat Minick in a best two out of three match race at Hollywood, Florida. Roger lost the first race with an ill-handling 10.20-83.72 to Minick's shut off 9.81/95. Pat took the match in the second race with an 8.25/177, beating Roger's 8.44/189.46. Lindamood ran a 7.92/191.48 solo in the third race when Minick's "Chi-Town Hustler" broke. Another best of three match was run on September 29 at Windsor Dragway, where Terry Hedrick was in the "Seaton's Shaker" Rat-powered Corvair. Roger had a bad day, losing all three races and only running a best of 8.05/189.46. At the OCIR manufacturer's race, Roger won all three races with a best of 7.96/189.46. Shortly after that, he had a bad day racing at Columbia, South Carolina. The windshield blew out of the car at speed. Because he ran the car with windows, the air pressure caused the body to explode. The front end had also collapsed. Roger was hit by some debris that had struck him in the chest and knocked him unconscious. Other than some cracked ribs, he was ok. Notes: Lindamood failed to qualify for the NHRA Winternationals. He was at Detroit's Motor City Dragway on April 20 where he set a track record 7.51/190. UDRA held an eight-car show at US 131 Martin, Mich., on May 29, but Terry Hedrick's 7.63/191 beat Roger's 7.89/189 in the first round. He finished runner-up to Dick Loehr at the AHRA Grand Nationals at Detroit Dragway. On June 8, he ran at Epping for the New England Funny Car Championships. Lindamood set Top Speed in the first round, with a 7.61/199.10 victory over Mel Perry. In the second round, a 7.86/164 beat Joe Black. Unfortunately, the Charger came up ailing in the semifinal against Jim Liberman. An 11.37 was no match for JJ's 7.95. Also, in June, Roger was at US 30 in Gary, Indiana where he was credited with a 7.37/218.70. US 30 had sketchy times and the 218 was bogus. On July 6 at Milan, Mich., Lindamood faced Loehr in a match race. He set a 7.41 track record at 200.44 in the first race over Loehr's 7.71/190. In the second race, Roger tossed a blower belt and lost. The third and deciding race was never run because of rain so the match was declared a draw. The UDRA held an Funny Car race in Gary, Indiana, on August 20. Lindamood went into the race as the track record holder at 7.37, but Gary Dyer reset it to a 7.33 in the first round. The two met in the semifinals and Dyer's 7.80 beat Lindamood's quicker 7.67. Late in August, Detroit Dragway held an eight-car Funny Car race where all cars ran three races and the winner was decided by who won the most rounds. Roger set Top Speed at 197 and won all three of his races with a best of 7.49/197 coming in the third race against Bill Lawton's 7.79/181. He tied for overall honors with Larry Reyes, who had also won all three of his races. On August 30, US 131 Martin, Mich., held an eight-car show. Roger ran a first-round 7.64/198.66 over Arnie Behling's 7.86/184, but a blown transmission in the semifinal against Gary Bolger took away any chance of victory. The next day (August 31), he raced at another eight-car show, this time in Minneapolis. An 8.33/195.22 lost to Bryan Teal's 8.35/151 in the first round, but a stroke of good luck came his way in the form of Behling breaking a crankshaft in his first-round win. As Low ET loser in the first round, he was reinstated and raced against Teal again in the semifinals. This time Roger's 7.40/200 advanced over Teal into the finals. There he faced Pat Minick, but another blown trans gave him the runner-up purse. The next day (September 1), they did it again at Minneapolis and Roger was upset in the first round, by a 7.87/185 from Della Woods. To be fair, he did have more transmission problems during their race. Another runner-up finish came on September 7 at the Memphis Funny Car 500. He broke in the first round, against Jack Chrisman, but again got back in on the break rule. He faced Chrisman again in the second round and beat him with a 7.44 track record. In the final he met former track record holder (7.54), Bobby Wood. It was a close race with Wood’s 7.45 beating Lindamood's 7.50. At the New England Funny Car Championships at Epping on September 21, Roger's first-round 7.33/198 beat Tom Grove's track record 7.30.
