Notes: Andy lent this car to Wally Booth to compete at the Winters, but he got it back after Wally's AMC deal came through. Andy raced it into early 1977 before forming the M&M Boys with Dick Maskin. In November, Mannarino qualified #4 at Suffolk for the Little Guy National Open with an 8.83/153.06. In the opening round, an 8.90/151.51 beat John Theofiles' 9.02/150. Also ran 8.99/150.25 at Indy 1977, 8.70 at Englishtown 77, 8.75 at Columbus. | Twenty-four cars attempted to qualify at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. Two AMC Hornets qualified in the top half of the field. Wally Booth got the #3 spot while Mannarino's 8.77 got him the #7 spot in the show. Another 8.77 at 154 beat Carl Hobson in round one, while Booth lost to Joe Satmary. That put AMC's hopes on Andy and he didn't disappoint in round two where he "avenged" a win over Satmary who fouled with an 8.70/155. The AMC's run came to an end in the semifinals where he lost to Frank Iaconio. Andy qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field at Sanair for the NHRA Grandnationals with an 8.88/153. His opening round 8.92 lost to Larry Lombardo's 8.75 in Bill Jenkins' Monza. E-Town 155.74 was the team's best NHRA national event speed. Qualified 17th at Indy 8.991 150.75 |

Notes: After crashing at Gainesville, Andy joined Dick Maskin in this AMC Hornet entry. On June 4, Andy was at Indianapolis for the NHRA Division 3 race. His 8.84/152.02 qualified #4 in the eight-car field, and an opening-round 8.97/150.25 advanced over a fouling John Frech. In the semifinal, Joe Satmary also fouled against him, and he ran a 9.62/108.17 to move into the final. His final-round opponent was low qualifier Bob Glidden, who was running 8.6's with ease. Andy fouled in the final, shutting down to 19.26/38.07, while Glidden ran 8.71/140 for the victory. A week later, he was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. He was the slower of the two AMC cars that qualified as his 8.800/153.84 gave him the #12 spot in the show. Unfortunately, that set up a first-round meeting with Glidden that saw Andy's 8.89/152.80 lose to Bob's 8.73/151. Both AMCs qualified in the top half of the eight-car field at NHRA's Division 3 race held at Martin, Michigan, on June 24. Andy's 8.84/153.32 got the #4 spot. He opened eliminations with an 8.81/151.26 that beat Harold Martin's 9.69/140, and in the semifinals, he faced the similar Hornet entry of Wally Booth. Wally's car was much stronger on this day as his 8.75/154 easily got the measure of Mannarino's 8.98/150.50. Early in July, he was at Edgewater for the next NHRA Division 3 race. He qualified #4 at 8.94 and looked to have an easy first-round match against Dave Avery, but the Hornet broke, and Dave got to solo into round two. Andy qualified #8 at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals with an 8.76/153.80. An opening Round 10.25/115 advanced when Ronnie Manchester broke. In round two, his 8.79/153.06 lost to Larry Lombardo's 8.64/156 in Bill Jenkins' Monza. He then went to Martin, Michigan, for the PHR Championships. An 8.77 qualified #4 and an opening-round 8.81/141.06 beat Frank Parker. In round two, his 8.80/154.37 beat Dempsey Hardy's 8.93/148, but in the semifinals, Lombardo stopped him once again. Andy's 8.91/155.17 lost to Larry's 8.82/152. At Indy, for the NHRA US Nationals, Andy's 8.78/154.63 qualified #15. He coasted to a 12-second pass to beat a fouling Kevin Rotty in the opening round, but a second-round 8.823/153.06 fell to Frank Iaconio's 8.71/155. Andy qualified #6 at Seattle for the Fallnationals at 8.697/154.37. He beat Mike Rendel in round one, 8.69/154.63 to 8.96/150. Frank Iaconio got him again in round two, 8.53/156 to 8.67/154.37. Andy wrapped up the year with a #9 qualifying effort at Ontario, 8.770/156.25. But that meant meeting Bob Glidden in round one, a race Bob won, 8.61/153 to 8.789/154.37. |

Notes: Shortly after racing at "legal weight" at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals, Andy went to Milan the following week (July 23) for the IHRA Northern Nationals. He got to take the weight out and he ran 8.44 to qualify #5 in the eight-car field. Unfortunately, that set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Lee Edwards. Mannarino shut down to 9.79/100.89 in their race while Lee advanced with an 8.26/161. |

Notes: The team debuted on the NHRA national event tour at Columbus at 8.75/155.70 to qualify #6. Andy fouled against Warren Johnson in round one, losing an 8.88/150 to 8.914/152.80 contest. He qualified #7 at Englishtown at 8.70/155.70. An 8.83/154.37 beat Ronnie Manchester's 8.90/152 in round one. Fellow AMC racer Wally Booth won their close round two contest, 8.72/155 to 8.75/155.17. He was credited with an 8.65 at the PHR Nats in Martin. We need confirmation of that ET and speed. Andy qualified #13 at Indy at 8.747/153.84. A first-round 8.888/152.54 beat Don Nicholson's fouling shut-off pass, but he ran into Bob Glidden in round two and lost an 8.56/157 to 8.779/154.10 contest. |

Notes: Andy was at Edgewater on May 4 for the second NHRA Division 3 race. He qualified #2 with an 8.62 behind Bob Glidden's 8.48. These two would work their way through the field to meet in the final. Glidden had the edge and held it with an 8.50/153, beating Mannarino's runner-up effort of 8.71/152.80. He failed to qualify at the NHRA Springnationals, where he was the fourth alternate with an 8.87/154.90. But as the season progressed, the team got stronger. At the NHRA Summernationals, Andy qualified #7 with an 8.60/155.97. An 8.69/154.10 beat Don Nicholson's 8.87/152 in round one, but in round two, his 8.67/156.52 lost to Frank Iaconio's 8.56/157. He was at Maple Grove in August at the NHRA Division 1 race. There he lasted until the semifinals, where an 8.73/153.58 lost to eventual winner Iaconio's 8.57/156. He followed the NHRA tour into Canada for the Grandnationals. It was an eight-car field, and his 8.66/154.90 qualified #6. The race was then rained out after qualifying, and Mannarino packed up and left for the PHR Meet at Martin, Michigan. Andy qualified #2 there with an 8.61 and another 8.61/155.17 in the first round, beat Joe Satmary. He was caught napping on the line in the semifinals, and his 8.65 lost to Jim Kinnett's 8.74. The following week (August 17), he was at Beech Bend for the NHRA Division 3 race. A first-round 8.72/157.61 advanced over a fouling Larry Peternel, and in the semifinals, his 8.67/158.73 beat Jim Mikel's 8.93/154 in the "Hop Cap" Monza. This put him into another final with Glidden. Unfortunately for Andy, the results were the same, with Bob's 8.54/160 getting the win over the Firebird's 8.74/155.70. The car really improved at Indy for the NHRA US Nationals. Andy ran 8.53/157.34 to qualify #4. In the first round, his 8.53/157.61 beat Johnny Dowey's 8.69/153. But in round two, a sleepy 8.52/157.34 lost to Bill Jenkins' 8.65/155. The Maskin and Mannarino team continued to improve at Seattle, where Andy qualified #3 with an 8.45/157.34. An even better 8.44/157 beat Satmary's 8.55 in round one. The car stayed consistent with an 8.46/158.17 in round two that downed Gordie Rivera's 8.59/155. He came up against Glidden in the semifinals, and Glidden had been running 8.3s. Andy took a chance on the tree and fouled away an 8.440/158.45, which were Andy's best NHRA national event times. He had to do it as Bob won with an 8.32/160. He got some payback at Fremont's Winston Challenge race, where he actually beat Glidden in the final. |

Notes: Andy qualified #5 at the NHRA Gatornationals with an 8.46/158.72. He fell off to 8.57/155.70 in the first round, and lost to Bob Ingles' 8.54/159. The NHRA Southern Nationals at Atlanta had only eight-car Pro fields and Mannarino's best of 8.62 was good for the second alternate. He was at Englishtown on May 3rd for the NHRA Eastern Regional where he made it into the final before losing to Frank Iaconio's 8.39/164 with an 8.48/159.01. Andy also made it to the final at the NHRA Cajun Nationals. There he qualified #4 in the eight-car field and in round one, he out drove Dave Hutchens by beating Dave's 8.63/155 with an 8.66/161.00. In the semifinals, both he and Iaconio ran 8.57, but Andy got the win light. In the final he faced Bob Glidden and Glidden's 8.46 got the victory over Mannarino's 8.51. At the NHRA Springnationals, he continued to qualify strong, an 8.58/157.89 got him the #5 spot in the field. A first-round 8.57/154.37 beat John Hagen's 8.72/157, but in round two his 8.70/156.79 lost to Lee Shepherd's 8.51/158. The thin air of Denver gave the team some trouble at the NHRA Mile High Nationals, still a 9.20/146.34 qualified #5 for the eight-car show, but he faced low qualifier and eventual winner Shepherd in the first round, where Andy's 9.31/148.02 lost to Lee's 9.03/149. He was at Indianapolis for the third NHRA Eastern Regional race where he qualified #6 in another eight-car show. He got a lot of publicity for beating Glidden in the first round, with an 8.59/155.97 that stopped the Ford ace's 8.64/158. Unfortunately, he fell to a holeshot by Dave Hutchens in the semifinals where Dave's 8.71/158 beat Andy's quicker 8.66/156.25. The "M&M Boys" didn't qualify so well at Englishtown for the NHRA Summernationals. Mannarino's best of 8.54/157.36 qualified #10 and set up a first-round pairing with #2 qualifier Pat Musi. Andy was up to the task in their match, getting out first and running 8.66 to beat Musi's 8.74. In the second round, Andy fouled against Hutchens. As most Pro Stock drivers at the time, the next stop was at Maryland for the US Pro Stock Open. It was a sixteen-car show, but in the first round, Bob Harris upset Mannarino. The following week (July 26), he faced Sam Gianino for a best of three mach race at Central Michigan Dragway. Andy won all three races, hitting 8.69 twice with a best speed of 159. |

Notes: Mannarino attempted to qualify at the Gatornationals, but his best of 8.09/168.49 failed to make the 8.05 bump. He did make the field at the Cajun Nationals with his 8.02 qualifying #7 in the eight-car show. He lost to Bob Glidden in the first round. A 7.988/171.10 qualified in the dreaded #9 spot at National Trail for the Springnationals. He met and lost to low qualifier Lee Shepherd in the first round. Andy made it into the final at Maple Grove for the Super Stock Magazine Nationals. A first-round 8.10/168.12 got around Warren Johnson and an 8.08/169.42 beat Joe Lepone in the semifinals. But in the final, he lost to Frank Iaconio. He qualified #10 at the Summernationals at 8.007/174.08 (his best 1982 speed), but once again lost to Glidden in the first round. He just made the show at the PHR Championships; his 7.94/171.10 qualified #8 in the eight-car show. He fouled against Iaconio in the first round. |
