Notes: Martin (hometown given as Garden Grove) won Top Eliminator at Lions on 11/19/66, turning a 7.69 @ 204.54 mph. -- RT | Irwindale held a sixteen-car show on April 2. Martin ran 7.97/197.80 in the opening round to advance when Andy Clary lost fire. In round two, he fouled against Mike Snively, who was driving the "Hawaiian." On July 3, Martin qualified #5 at an eight-car show at San Fernando with an 8.21/191.88. An 8.31/168.85 lost to Leroy Goldstein's 7.91/169 in the "Crower-Blair" car. He was at Lions on July 9 for an eight-car show where he qualified #6 with a 7.67/202.24. Unfortunately, he lost fire against eventual winner Dave Beebe in the first round. The next day he went to San Fernando for another eight-car show. He ran 8.32/196.06 to qualify #5, and he made an easy first-round run when Fitt-Gerth fouled. He got another easy pass in the semifinals when James Warren fouled away a Low ET and Top Speed of the meet (7.73/208.32) against him. This advanced him into the final against John Herbert. Martin's 8.01/199.54 finished runner-up to Herbert's 7.79/193. -- RH
