Notes: One of the funny car bodies used in Pro Modified, later outlawed by IHRA. | Martin qualified #4 at Maryland for the IHRA President's Cup Championships with a 6.82/205.29. It was a 32-car field, but only 28 cars showed. He ran really well winning his first-round race easily and then beating Stanley Barker's 7.04/195 in round two with a 6.89/204.68. In the third round, Ken Regenthal had problems and shut off while Michael advanced with a 6.98/202.24. His run came to an end in the semifinals where eventual winner Scotty Cannon's 6.82/202 stopped his 6.94/201.38. Michael qualified on the "bump" for the sixteen-car show at Bristol on October 11 for the IHRA Fallnationals with a 6.89/200.40. He improved to 6.82/202.11 in the first round, but he lost to Ed Hoover's 6.79/203.
