Notes: Bill was in Atlanta early in March for the NHRA Division 2 race. It was initially scheduled to run on the 8th but was postponed to the 15th due to rain. His 6.52/210.77 qualified #3. In the opening round, he ran 6.69/204.08 to advance over Don Blackshear, who broke. Low qualifier Bill Barney also broke against him in the semifinals, and McCornack advanced at 6.56/211.26. He went up against Don Woosley in the final, and his 6.76/206.89 finished runner-up to Don's 6.47/209. The following week, he went to Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. He qualified #15 with a 6.43/211.16, but he lost to Dale Hall in round one. He was back in Atlanta in April for the NHRA Southern Nationals. It was just an eight-car field, and his 6.49/207.61 qualified on the "bump." He fell off a tenth in the first round, and his 6.59/209.44 lost to Woosley's 6.37/211. He was also on the "bump" at the NHRA Division 3 opener held at Indianapolis in the first week of May. Twenty-seven cars attempted to make the eight-car field, and Bill's 6.54/210.28 just made the show. In the first round, he beat Mike Kosky's 7.09/142 with a 6.76/208.33. In the semifinal, an off-pace 6.90/193.96 lost to Lee Young's 6.48/209. NHRA held a Division 2 race at DeSoto Memorial on May 17. Only six cars showed, and it was unusual that four of the cars used Rodeck engines. The other two used a Chevy and an Arias. They were no aftermarket aluminum Chrysler Hemi-powered cars in the field. McCormack qualified #3 with a 6.74/200.00. He soloed in the first round when Tom Ingrao's Chevy car broke. A semifinal 6.67/203.61 lost to Tony Lebor's 6.59/203. Bill qualified #11 at the NHRA Springnationals with a 6.53/209.44. In the first round, he slowed to 6.84/197.88 and lost to Ken Lowe's 6.61/207. Notes: Just as the Donovan faded from the racing scene a few years earlier, so too did the Rodeck. Bill was one of the last holdouts, and he ran quite well. He had the only Rodeck-powered car to qualify for the NHRA Division 2 opener at Atlanta on March 11. His 6.88/208.84 qualified #7 for the eight-car show. In the opening round, his 6.32/224.83 fell to Cory McClenathan's 6.22/219. On April 8th, the NHRA Division 2 race at Rockingham saw three Rodeck-powered cars qualify. Bill's 6.25/221.83 qualified #4, and in round one, his 6.33/208.91 defeated Bruce Horner's similar 6.33/210. In the semi-final, his off-pace 6.67/168.38 lost to eventual winner Blaine Johnson's 6.01/225. In May, he qualified #4 with a 6.27/221.78 at the NHRA Cajun Nationals. A 6.32/219.78 beat Mike Dunn's 6.32/214 in the first round, but in round two, his 6.29/220.80 fell to eventual winner Amy Faulk's 6.28/220. Moroso Motorsports Park hosted the next NHRA Division 2 race run early in June. Bill qualified #5 at 6.48/212.26. He then took out Don Fiorelli in the opening round with a 6.50/200.00. In the semi-final, his 6.60/214.28 lost to Bill Barney's 6.21/220. Although no Rodecks qualified for the sixteen car field at Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nationals, McCornack was the first alternate at 6.24/220.42. AKA Kentucky Thunder. Notes: The Rodeck engine was near its end by the '91 season in alcohol racing. Bill McCornack and a few others continued to flog it into the early '90s, but its days were numbered. Bill qualified 12th at NHRA Houston at 6.10/225.56. He improved to 6.07 but still lost to Blaine Johnson in round one. Bill was at Atlanta in April for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where he ran 6.22/222.99 to qualify #10. He had one of the two Rodecks that made the show. An opening round 6.15/223.10 beat Don Devault's 6.14/226, but a second-round 6.20/222.55 lost to eventual winner Wayne Celko's 6.17/221. On May 9, he was at Moroso Motorsports Park for the NHRA Division 2 race. Only six cars showed for the eight-car field, and Bill's 6.26/220.53 qualified #2. He ran an opening round 6.35/219.56 to beat the "other" Rodeck in the field, Don Fiorelli, who lost with a 6.66/199. Opponent Gary Unger shut off with problems in the semifinals, and McCornack's 6.42/186.99 advanced. He faced low qualifier Bill Barney in the final, and both slowed from their earlier pace. McCornack picked up the victory with a 6.61/214.89 over Barney's 6.67/211. At the NHRA Division 3 final held at Beech Bend on August 25, Bill qualified #5 with a 6.25/222.65. But a 6.63/218.64 in the first round, lost to Larry Lay's 6.23/219. Bill had the only Rodeck to qualify for the NHRA US Nationals at Indy. His 6.17/223.43 gave him the #12 spot in the field.
