Notes: This team was out to prove that the Chevy "Rat" motor could survive in a class dominated by the Chrysler Hemi. Some Chevy-powered Top Fuel cars were still out there in 1976, and five of them qualified for the sixteen-car field at the Irwindale Grand Premiere event. McDaniel's 6.24/223 got him the #9 spot in the show. That gave him the honor of running low qualifier Stan Shiroma, who had run the first 5.8 by a Chevy to get the pole. Shiroma went up in smoke in their race, and McDaniel advanced with a 6.31. He took on another Chevy-powered car in round two. This time, Rance quickened his pace to 6.17/224 to beat Howard Haight's slowing 7.13/121. He ran 6.24/225 in the semifinals to beat Dave Braskett's 6.46/223. His final-round opponent was Frank Bradley, who had run 5.96 in his semifinal race. It didn't look good for the "Valley Fever" car, but Bradley smoked the tires and shut off to 10.20 while Rance ran his best time of the weekend, a 6.15/225.56, to pick up the victory. The team's next stop was at Tucson for the AHRA Winternationals. There were only two Chevy-powered cars qualified. Rance had the quickest, getting the #10 spot, while Larry Dixon qualified his Chevy right behind in the #11 spot. Both lost in round one. Rance's off-pace 6.76 lost to Bradley's 6.33. The team failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals but was awarded the "best appearing pro crew." McDaniel qualified #21 in the 32-car field at the Bakersfield March Meet. His 6.23/222.77 lost to Braskett's 6.09/229 in the first round. Sacramento held an eight-car show, and Rance lost to the only other Chevy in the field in the first round. Dixon's 6.16 advanced when McDaniel had problems and had to shut down. Nitro Championships Orange County CA 1976. Also ran 6.15 at Irwindale Grand Premiere.

Notes: The team of Rance McDaniel, Mike Garrison, and Larry Marvin proved that you didn't need to run a "Hemi" to be competitive in TF. After running steel blocks, they finally pooled their funds and bought an aluminum Rodeck. They could have just as easily bought a KB or Donovan as the cost would have been the same, but as Rance said, "We have so many Chevy heads, cranks, pistons, and all that other stuff laying around that we thought we'd better go with the Rodeck." The investment proved to be worthwhile as they hit steady 6.0s and were able to win three NHRA points meets. McDaniel was also able to win the NHRA Division 7 title. That was James Warren's property for years. Ran 6.51/181.45 at PRO Beeline on 1/14/77. Despite not qualifying well (6.95 for #15), Rance ran well at the AHRA Winternationals. A first-round 6.32 beat Jim Plummer's 6.56. Marvin Schwartz got out of shape in the second round, and McDaniel advanced with a 6.25/221.66. A 6.26/221.66 beat Ron Attebury's 6.39/222 in the "Jungle Jim" car in the semifinal. A final round 6.49/213.28 lost to Jeb Allen's 6.36/213. He then went to Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where a 6.03 qualified in the dreaded #9 spot. In the first round, he met low qualifier Shirley Muldowney. He ended up advancing when Shirley's magneto went sour after her burnout. Rance had an easy second round when Ron Correnti couldn't make the call, so he singled again. In the semifinals, he ran a 6.34, losing to Jerry Ruth's 6.02. In June, he won the third NHRA Division 7 race at Sacramento. He qualified #3 in the eight-car field with a 6.09; in the semifinals, a 6.02/219.54 beat low qualifier Dennis Baca's 6.08/238. A final round 6.15/225.01 beat Shorty Leventon for the win. He doubled up in Division 7 by winning the next race as well. This was a sixteen-car field at Bonneville. He qualified #2 with a 6.30 and a final round holeshot combined with a 6.28/216.78 stopped Denver Schutz, who ran a quicker 6.23/218 to finish runner-up. He closed out the NHRA Division 7 season by winning the final race held at Irwindale in August. Rance set Low ET in qualifying #1 with a 6.14, and he then ran 6.31 over Rick Ramsey and a 6.36 to beat Walt Rhoades in round two. He fell off to 6.51 in the semifinals, but it was enough to beat Jim Adolph and move him into the final, where he faced #2 qualifier Ron Dunn. McDaniel picked up his third straight Division 7 victory with a 6.32/209.79. At the NHRA US Nationals, Rance qualified #14 with a 6.05/235.60, which was pretty good considering 60 cars were trying to make the 32-car field. He had the only Chevy that made the show. In eliminations, he lasted until the semifinals. A first-round 6.04/217 beat Mike Reynolds, and a 6.06/226 beat James Warren in round two. He won a close one only Marvin Graham in round three when both ran 6.23 (Rance at 230 mph), but in the semifinals, his 6.11/224 lost to eventual winner Baca's 6.08/231. He was at Union Grove for the PRO National Challenge race the following week but lost to John Abbott in the first round. The next stop was at Seattle for the NHRA Fallnationals. It was postponed a week due to rain and ran on September 25. This was an interesting race as three Chevy-powered cars qualified for the sixteen-car field, and two made the final. Rance's 5.990 qualified #9, which set up a first-round encounter with low qualifier Gary Read. Read lost a blower to their race, and McDaniel advanced with a 6.44. In round two, he had a little more luck, where Shirley Muldowney had to shut off on the line with no oil pressure, and Rance's 6.12 advanced. Another 6.12 at 230.17 beat Canadian Terry Capp's 6.32/227 and moved him into the final against Stan Shiroma. It would have been a good race between the two Rodeck runners, but Rance's car refused to fire, so Shiroma singled for the win. Ran 6.02 at Sacramento.

Notes: The team failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals (times unknown), but things went better at Beeline for the Phoenix Winter Championships. Rance qualified #10 in the sixteen-car field, and in round one, his 6.49/198.23 lost to Shirley Muldowney's 6.33/238. That was followed by a failure to make the field at the Gatornationals (times unknown). Rance ran 6.13 to qualify #16 for the 32-car field at the Bakersfield March Meet. His 6.38 beat Larry Dixon's ailing Chevy-powered car in the opening round of eliminations. He ran a strong 6.01/229.59 in the second round, but it wasn't enough to beat Jeb Allen, who got off the line quicker with a 6.04/232. He also ran well at Fremont for the NHRA Division 7 race. There was a 6.02/222.77 qualified #3 in the sixteen-car show. An opening round 6.09/218.44 beat Dave Braskett's quicker 6.05/230. But in round two, It was McDaniel who slept in the line. His 5.90 (Low ET) at 237.46 lost to Don Garlits' 6.05/225. Rance qualified #31 at Indy at 6.260/234.98 but lost a first-round decision to Larry Dixon, 6.141/221.13 to 6.412/228.42. That was the team's last NHRA national event appearance for 1978.

Notes: Rance qualified on the "bump" at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 5.901/243.24. He lost to Jerry Ruth in the first round, 5.76/242 to 7.98/120. At the Bakersfield March Meet, a 6.04/234.98 qualified #14. In the opening round, his 6.08 fell to Tom Ridings' 5.99. The following week (March 13), he was at Gainesville for the NHRA Gatornationals. Unfortunately, a 6.070/234.37 best left him as the first alternate for the show. He also failed to qualify at Baton Rouge for the NHRA Cajun Nationals, where his 5.917/241.28 was the third alternate. Things went better at the NHRA Springnationals, where he qualified #10 with a 5.894/237.46. He and Richard Tharp had a close race in the first round, that saw his 6.157/232.55 lose to Tharp's 6.135/230. Rance was the fifth alternate at NHRA Denver at 6.213/231.36.
