Notes: McDowell started the season at Pomona for the NHRA Winternartionals. Unfortunately, his 6.11/230.12 best was only good enough for the first alternate. Mitch was at Firebird Raceway for the NHRA Division 6 opener in April. He qualified #5 in the eight-car field with a 6.22/226.70. But a 6.34/220.91 in the first round, lost to Wayne Stoeckel's 6.29/216. In the first week of August, he was in Seattle for the NHRA Northwest Nationals. His 5.96/233.03 qualified #3, and in the first round, he beat John Weaver with a 6.06/228.42. He and Lou Gasparelli had a close race in round two where both ran 6.07 (Mitch at 227.38), but McDowell got the "win" light. He lost to the eventual winner Bucky Austin, in the semifinal. Mitch was one of six TA/FC drivers to show up at Nl'Akapxm Eagle Motorplex on September 25 for the NHRA Division 6 race. His 6.44/223.43 qualified #3. In the first round, his 6.91/219.55 defeated Rick Henkelman's 7.37/150, but his 6.65/221.23 in the semifinal fell to Austin's 6.62/215.
