Notes: My 1984 TAFC was professionally built and brand new, debuting that same year when I earned my license in the fall. On my sixth full pass, my final licensing run, I recorded a 6.76 at 218 mph. I was certified and licensed by NHRA Division 7 Director Graham Light, with Funny Car drivers Tripp Shumake, Johnny West, and Chris Lane signing off on my credentials. Notes: The NHRA WWCS race at Firebird in January 1985 was pure chaos. It rained all day Thursday and Friday, leaving six inches of standing water throughout the pits. Track conditions on Saturday were unstable, and only one qualifying run was allowed that night. The surface was extremely loose due to an 80-degree dew point from the previous day’s rain. Notes: On May 31, Simon entered his alky-burning 'Cuda into Houston Raceway's Spring Funny Car Championships. Fifteen cars were attempting to make the eight-car field, and all were burning nitro except for him. Amazingly, he qualified on the "bump" with a 7.64 but broke on the pass and could not run eliminations.

Notes: Took home 23 wins during 77/78, including eleven PRO and AHRA national events. He also brought in the '77 PRO BB/FC Championship and the '78 AHRA BB/FC World Championship. Also ran AHRA nitro shows. Menzies ran 6.76 at Columbus, Indy, and Seattle in 1977 also. Also ran 6.76 at IHRA Union Grove. The 6.76 was recorded as the season-best in Greg Zyla's Vallco drag racing game with a 6.87 average, but Simon actually ran a best of 6.68 at Fremont, beating Lou Gasparrelli's 6.64 on a holeshot.
