Notes: Won the OCIR meet on 2/11/68, where Bobby Tapia ran the amazing 6.54 (John ran consistently and won with a best of 7.16/218.96). Mitchell was at Lions on June 8 for an eight-car show. He qualified #1 with a 7.05/221.12, and in the opening round of eliminations, his 7.25/222.22 beat Bill Alexander. But in the semifinal, his 7.26/222.76 lost to Dave Beebe's 7.23/209. John was at Lions on June 22 for another eight-car show. He qualified #2 with a 7.26/180.00 behind Wayne King's 7.25/208 in Tony Waters' car. These two would end up meeting in the final. John improved to 7.12/212.26 to advance in round one, while a 7.08/217.90 (Low ET and Top Speed) in the semifinals beat Larry Dixon's 7.18/211. In the final, the two low qualifiers fell off, but King's 7.36 won over Mitchell's close 7.37. He was back at Lions a week later (June 29) for another eight-car show. Once again, he qualified #2 with a 7.14/213.76. In the first round, he was upset by John Martin, whose 7.15/221 beat his late 7.02 (Low ET) at 203.96. In November, John was at OCIR for a sixteen-car show. He qualified #5 with a 7.21, but the car failed to fire in the first round, giving his opponent Joe Lee a solo into round two.

Notes: Crewmember Bill Pease's son had a Lions Drag Strip record holder jacket that cites a 6.61 ET at 228 mph. That run likely took place in 1969 or 1970. We are listing it here as John was the known driver for 1969. Can anyone confirm that it was John who ran those times and not someone else?

Notes: In late August, Mike won the Tenth Annual Vaca Valley Gas Coupe Championships. He qualified #1 with an 8.75 and in the first round, he set Low ET and Top Speed with an 8.65/170.50 that beat Tom Chambliss in the Mallicoat Brothers' Cuda. An 8.76 in the semifinals beat Ernie Nicholson while in the finals, Mitchell ran 8.69/166.50 to beat Ron Zeller's 8.92/159.60. He was at OCIR shortly after that, but in the first round, of the sixteen-car show he lost a blower belt and shut off.
