Notes: Bob failed to qualify at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals, where his 7.74/180.72 failed to crack the 7.58 "bump." At the NHRA Cajun Nationals, he again failed to qualify. He was the tenth alternate with a 7.77/184.04. His next stop was at Columbus for the NHRA Springnationals. There, his 7.72/176.22 was the tenth alternate. He did not race at the NHRA Grandnationals or the NHRA Summernationals, but he was in Denver for the NHRA Mile High Nationals. He failed to qualify as he was the ninth alternate with an 8.18/168.79. Bob did not qualify at Brainerd and was at least 30th or worse. The National Dragster results do not list him in the qualifying order but the Auto Imagery gallery of the event clearly shows him in attendance. He went to Indy for the NHRA US Nationals. His best of 7.58/186.41 was the seventh alternate. That was pretty good, considering that 52 cars were attempting to qualify. He skipped going to Maple Grove for the NHRA Keystone Nationals, but he was at Texas for the NHRA Chief Nationals. He ran a great 7.49/184.16, but that time was only good enough for the seventh alternate at this track. Did Morton live in Des Moines, IA, or Independence, MO? best. Notes: at Baytown Elijah Morton had a forgettable weekend that almost ended on the first test pass. Morton brought the sleek Morton Brothers Mustang out for a test shot Friday and rear wheels locked on the car on the beginning of the burnout. The Mustang pitched sideways but luckily did not hit anything. The Morton team fixed the car to come back to run a good 4.123, 175.30 to get the fifth spot.
