He qualified second with a 7.62/199.10. He beat Dick Lechien and Bill Leavitt before running a 7.59/205 in the final to beat Tommy Allen's 7.90/208. On January 23 he was at Pomona for its Jackpot race. John qualified fourth with a 7.80/204.08. That wasn't bad considering that there were 34 cars going for the 16 positions. In round two, John lost to Dave Beebe. At the AHRA Winternationals at Irwindale, the team ran well, beating Tom McEwen in the semifinals, but losing an engine while winning. Unfortunately, they were unable to run in the final giving Bob Hightower a single for the win. John's 7.71/198.22 qualified #14 in the 32-car field at Lions for the UDRA Winternationals on February 26. He failed to reach the finals. At the Bakersfield March Meet, he ran on Saturday, March 5, for the hoped for "sit out" position for Sunday. Unfortunately, he fouled away a 7.67/195.22 in the first round. John had still qualified for Sunday's show, but he got out of shape in the first round, of eliminations against Mike Snively and lost. The team was at Lions for a sixteen-car show on March 26 where a 7.89/198.66 qualified #7. He beat Gary Casaday in the first round, with a 7.96/196.50, but lost in the next round. Another sixteen-car show was run at Irwindale on April 2. Mulligan beat Dwight Salisbury in the first round, with a 7.76/199.54 before slowing to a 10.64/91.63 second round loss to Dave Beebe's 7.70/210. He won at Lions over an eight-car field on April 9. He qualified #2 with a 7.37 and ran a 7.88/160.71 over Bivens and Fisher in the first round. In the semifinal, Connie Swingle fouled against him and he ended up winning by beating Roy Thode in the final with a 7.65/170. Another win came their way on April 17 at Riverside for a Jackpot Circuit event. John qualified #1 with a 7.67 and he set Low ET with a first-round 7.61, beating Jack Ewell. In the semifinal, a 7.80 beat Tommy Allen who shut off early. In the final, a holeshot 7.95/205.00 beat Paul Sutherland's quicker 7.83/188. The following day (April 18) found them all Lions for an eight-car show. Again John qualified #1; this time, a Low ET of the meet 7.47 at 205.46 got him the spot. Nick Marshall fouled against him in the first round, and Connie Swingle did the same in the semis. John's two runs were 8.05/138.46 and 9.37/106.00, but here he was in another Top Fuel final round. Unfortunately, a final round 8.03/146.34 was no match for James Warren's 7.72. John was runner-up at Lions again on April 23 when he fouled away a 7.57/197.80 against Beebe in the final. Mulligan qualified second with a 7.68/181.08 and had run a 7.85/179.64 over an out of shape Warren and an 8.26/146.10 beat Krohn and Angeleri's Injected Chevy fueler in the semifinals. It was on April 24 that the drag racing world really started to notice the Adams-Warye-Mulligan team when they were at Pomona for a Jackpot Circuit race. In the first round, John soared to Low ET and Top Speed with a 7.30/219.50 drilling of Allen. In the second round, he faced Chuck Griffith, but John's clutch was failing and the car pulled through the beams and fouled. He still ran a 7.43 in the loss. They ran at Beeline's Fuel and Gas Championships on April 30 and even though they beat Glenn Brown in the first round, with a 7.66; the speed of 180.36 showed that they hurt their engine and were unable to run in the semifinal. Lions held a sixteen-car show on May 14, and a 7.96 qualified in the middle of the field. John shut off early in the first round, and his 8.08/142.65 lost to Larry Faust's engine blowing 8.14/182. Since Faust was unable to return, John got back in on the "break rule", but lost again with an ailing 9.58 losing to John Edmunds' 7.92/201. The team traveled to Sacramento on May 22 for the Division 7 points race and qualified with a 7.97 at only 159.50. They failed to reach the finals. John set Lions track records of 7.31/216.34 while qualifying #1 on May 28 for a sixteen-car show. In the first round, he beat Ron Goodsell's 7.85/200 with a 7.39/213.76, but Beebe's 7.59/207 beat John's quicker 7.51/204.54 in the second round. Mulligan set Low ET in qualifying #1 at an eight-car show at Lions on June 11. His 7.42/203.16 led the field, but in the first round, his 7.51/187.50 beat Beebe, but a cylinder wall collapsed and they had to withdraw from competition. John cracked off a Low ET 7.24 at 219.50 to lead qualifying at Riverside for the HRM Championships. Unfortunately, he lost to Mike Sorokin in the first round. He did better at Irwindale on July 9 where he set Low ET and Top Speed in qualifying at 7.44/214.00. Another 7.44 at 205.94 beat Allen and a 7.50/206.88 beat Ron Hampshire in the semifinals. In the final, he met Danny Ongais who lost a clutch on the line and Mulligan won with a 7.53/213.28. Another win came at Carlsbad on May 29 where he qualified #1 with a 7.49 at a track speed record of 221.12. He ran 7.87/215.30 and Low ET of the meet, 7.44 at 218.44 in the rounds leading up to the final where a 7.91/203.16 beat Tommy Allen's 8.27. On August 7, Mulligan ran 7.16 to qualify first at Lions for the AHRA World Championships. A first-round 7.31/218.44 (Top Speed) beat Bob Brooks, but in the second round, the car failed to fire. Dave Beebe met John at Irwindale on August 20 for a best of three match race. This was big as Dave was winning a lot of races at the time. John won the match two straight with times of 7.49/203.16 over Beebe's 7.68/208 and 7.30/206.88 to Beebe's early shut off 7.76/191.08.

Notes: During the 1967 season, Beebe and Mulligan recorded three of the 13 quickest ET's with a best of 6.70 and one of the 14 best Top Speeds at 230.76. - Beebe-Mulligan.com. Confirmed by NHRA.com. | Listed 6.95/216 best on Indy entry form. | John was out to set Top Speed everywhere he went. The Tim Beebe prepared Chrysler Hemi made getting those speeds a little easier for John. He showed up at Carlsbad on January 1 for a Top Fuel show, but only four cars showed. John set Top Speed with a 7.24/230.16 (track record) in his race against Dave Russell. Unfortunately, he hurt the motor and was unable to run in the final. A week later, he was at Lions for an eight-car show. He ran 7.71 over Bob Muravez and 7.67 over Doug Walton to reach the finals, where he lost to Dave Beebe. At the AHRA Winternationals, Mulligan qualified #8 with a 7.78. Another 7.78 in the opening round beat Gerry Glenn's 7.77. In round two, "Sneaky Pete," Robinson got crossed up and shut off, and Mulligan advanced with a 7.53/203. He ran an easy solo in round three when Steve Carbone fouled. He lost to eventual winner Connie Kalitta in the semifinals. At Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, he qualified #22 in the 32-car show with a 7.42/213.76. In the first round, he advanced with a 7.53/211.26 when Chris Karamesines fouled. In round two, a 7.40/212.26 beat Marvin Schwartz. But in the third round, his 7.39/212.76 lost to Kalitta's 7.22/214. He was at Famoso on February 19 for the Bakersfield Meet. He lasted until the second round, where his 7.65/196.06 lost to Mike Sorokin's 7.22/200. On March 19, John drove Tom Sturm's funny car at the Amarillo Opener. John was without a ride until June when he jumped behind the wheel of the Beebe Brothers car. Things started well when he won the AHRA 1/8 Mile Championships at St. Louis. He set a new AHRA 1/8 mile record with a 5.05 in qualifying, backed up with a 5.09 in the semifinals. This was not Low ET as Leroy Goldstein qualified #1 with a 4.95, but he broke and could not compete. John won the final with a 5.32/168 over Wayne Strompf's 6.05. On July 4, he was at Tri-City for a best of three match against Tommy Ivo. The first race saw Mulligan's 7.22/212 beat Ivo, but in the second race, Ivo evened up the score with a 7.20/214 over John's 7.34/211.76. Mulligan won the match with a final 7.31/207.84 to beat Ivo's 7.78/171. The team was at Lions for the PDA Championships on July 15. It was a 64-car show that had 125 attend. In the first round, Mulligan's 7.20/218.44 beat Jeep Hampshire. He went on to reach the semifinals, where he beat a tire-smoking Don Prudhomme. But the "Snake" got back in on the break rule when Jack Ewell fouled, and Beebe broke a rear end. In the final, John slowed to a tire spinning 7.99 while Prudhomme picked up the win with a 7.20.

Notes: Mulligan got AA/FC upgrade in this car at Lions in October 1968. Schwartz drove this car at the '69 NHRA Springnationals in Dallas and died when Pat Foster in Mickey Thompson's Mustang T-boned the Cougar. In 1968, it was reported that when Maynard Rupp left the Cougar Country car, Roy Steffey was joining with Schwartz and Pepper Meihart on the Cougar. Steffey was a big dollar guy and would have made a big impact.

Notes: B&M began 1968 with the old Sam Vincent chassis that was front-halved by Frank Huszar. Ran 6.914 at Bakersfield 68. At the NHRA Springnationals in Englishtown set Low ET (6.65), but had tire problems in the final, losing to Garlits. Was #5 qualifier at Indy 1968 at 6.852, and Top Speed at 233.76. Also-229.59 mph at OCIR WCS points meet on 9/14/68. The Beebe & Mulligan car held the NHRA speed record at 229.59 mph from September 1968 until July 1970. Also ran four of the quickest 13 ETs and three of the fastest 13 speeds in 1968. In October 1968 they debuted their new Woody car at the World Finals and were runner-up to Bennie Osborn. These guys kicked, butt and they should have won a lot more races. Definitely on top of their game in '68. | Started the season at Beeline for the AHRA Winternationals. John won his first-round race with a 7.22/216 over Danny Ongais in the "Beaver Brothers" car, but the team didn't last long after that, as their high horsepower combination was too much for the track. On January 28 they were at Irwindale for an eight-car show. Mulligan qualified on the "bump" with a 7.27/182.92 and in the first round, an off pace 7.51/160.42 lost to James Warren's 7.07/218. On February 4, John qualified #19 in the 32-car field at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.16/217.90. In the first round, John was caught napping, as his 6.96/222.76 lost to Mike Snively's 7.08/219 in the "Hawaiian." On March 3, the team was at OCIR for the PDA Championships. Mulligan lasted until the second round where a seven cylinder 7.21 lost to Marvin Schwartz. Tim Beebe got the horsepower to the ground during qualifying at the Bakersfield March Meet when John laid down a 6.91/231.36 to qualify first. He had Low ET of the first-round as well with a winning 6.94. But he failed to reach the semifinals. On March 24, Beebe and Mulligan where at Riverside for the HRM Championships. John lasted until round two before losing to the eventual winner Steve Carbone. The team got it's first win of '68 on April 6 at Irwindale. And they didn't even qualify. John was first alternate in the sixteen-car show, but he got in when one car fell out with problems. He made the best of it by running a first-round 7.00 (Low ET) at 222.22 over the "Beaver Brothers." In round two, he set Top Speed with a 7.03/230.16 win over James Warren. In the final he beat Ray Ayres for the victory. They were back at Irwindale on May 4, but in the first round, a 7.11/226.12 (Top Speed) lost to Bob Hightower's 7.09/223 in the "Mr Ed" car. Tim was having trouble keeping the big Hemi lit at OCIR on May 25 for a sixteen-car show. John advanced past the first-round with a 7.78/153.06 when Carbone broke in the "Atlas Oil Tool Special." But in round two, another sub-par 7.66/181.08 lost to Bob Downey's 7.25/202. At the AHRA Springnationals at Bristol, John ran two qualifying passes, a 6.94 and a 6.87/226.60 (Low ET and Top Speed) to qualify first. These were AHRA's first six second runs. In the first round, he ran another six, a 6.92, but he lost to Chris Karamesines' 7.04. The following week (June 17) the duo was at Englishtown for the NHRA Springnationals. A 6.91/227.27 qualified #4 in the sixteen-car show. In the first round, he beat Tom Hoover with a 7.24. In the second round, he set Low ET and Top Speed with a 6.65/232.55 over Ron Rivero's 6.99/216. He got revenge on Karamesines in the semifinal with a 7.00/216.34 beating Chris' 7.07/216. Tom McEwen helped John install some new tires for the final. Unfortunately, they installed the tires backwards and John lost to Don Garlits. Mulligan picked up another win on June 23 at Aquasco for the President's Gold Cup Championships. He beat Al Friedman in the first round, with a 6.97/210.76 then got a "bye" run in the semifinal. In the final, he took the victory with Low ET and Top Speed at 6.89/216.86 over Norm Weekly.

Notes: In 1969, B&M won the Winternationals in their 392-powered Woody car, which had debuted at the 1968 World Finals. By mid-summer of '69, the team had changed to a Ramchargers-sourced elephant motor. Qualified #1 (6.43) at Indy '69 with an all-time quickest ET on a low qualifying pass. The stunning time stood as the sport's best for a year. John ran three of the 15 fastest speeds in 1969. Originally listed a 241, but that time was not supported by Beebe-Mulligan.com, which cited a best 1969 speed of the 233.22 from Riverside. John died at Indy 1969 when he had a terrible fire during a first-round win. See racer website for details. - BM | Beebe-Mulligan reset the track record at Union Grove two days running in early June '69, with a 6.70 following the previous day's 6.71. - RT Mulligan started his '69 season at the AHRA Winternationals, where a 6.99 qualified second. As mentioned above, he failed to make it into the later rounds, but Pomona was a different story. At the NHRA Winternationals, he qualified with a 7.16/225.00. A first-round 7.12/221.13 beat Tom Larkin's 7.24/206. In round two, a 6.86/222.77 beat James Warren's 7.14/214. Bennie Osborn's 7.42 fell to John's 6.86/221.13 in the third round and a 6.93/217.91 beat Leroy Goldstein in the semifinal. For the win, a 6.95/211.38 beat Don Prudhomme's 8.52/126. It was quite a win, considering 82 cars fought for the 32 spots available. At the second OCIR All-Pro race at OCIR on February 9, a 6.94 qualified #3, but he lost a blower belt in the first round, slowing the car to a 7.11/208.80 that lost to Dave Beebe's 7.01/211. At the Stardust Open on February 16 at Las Vegas, a 7.12 qualified #2. Mulligan singled in the first round, when Tommy Allen's car wouldn't stay lit. In the second round, he set a 6.85 track record while beating Hank Westmoreland. In the semifinal, Ron Rivero lost to John's 6.90/221.57, setting up Pomona finalists in a rematch. This time, Prudhomme came out on top with a 6.94/216, beating John's 7.10/211.76 runner-up effort. At the Bakersfield March Meet, a 6.88/225 beat Butch Maas' 6.95/222 in the first round, but in the second round, he lost a blower and the race to Steve Carbone. On March 16 at Riverside for the HRM Championships, John qualified #8 with a 7.01. In the first round, he beat Maas again with a 7.10/233.22 (Top Speed). A 7.14/216.86 beat Jerry Ruth's quicker 7.02/219 in round two, but he hurt some parts and could not return for the third round bringing Ruth back into the show on the break rule. Mulligan set Top Speed again at the final OCIR All-Pro race on March 29, when a first-round 7.06/222.76 beat Gerry Glenn. Against Prudhomme in the semis, he had a violent engine explosion and lost. He was not hurt. On May 30, he won over a sixteen-car field at US 131 Martin, Michigan. The times he turned here were strong. He opened up with a 6.62/232.55 (Top Speed) over Duke Ray in the "GuZler." In round two, he set Low ET with a 6.60/230.76 over Tommy Ivo. Prudhomme shut off on the line in the semifinal, and John still rocketed to a 6.67/231.36 on his single. In the final, he met and beat Don Cook with a 6.65/230.17. All four of his runs were in the 6.60's and all over 230 mph. His 6.60 and 232.55 were both track records. Nobody else there ran better than a 6.87, and nobody else even ran 217. It was quite a performance by the team. Shortly after this, John was the recipient of the Mike Sorokin Memorial Award. His peers voted for this award. Was John's Indy #1 qualifier a 6.437 or a 6.430. We show it in different ways but trying to find the final word.

Notes: This car was found in storage around 2000 as a rolling chassis (never had engine, trans, wiring, fuel system, etc.) This original steel bodied car was originally built in the mid to late 70's, but wasn't finished until Mullin Motor Sports completed the build with help from Easy Street Performance Fabrication (chassis builders) located in Lock Port, Illinois (708) 362/0269, and Romito Race Engines in Frankfort, Illinois (708) 479/7223, plus a lot of help from friends and family. The car is seen most often at Nostalgia events in the Mid-West such as the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green, KY, Goodguys events at Indianapolis, Norwalk, OH, Joliet IL, at the Muscle Car Reunion at Gateway, and with the Mid-West Gassers at Union Grove, WI. It was built with 1969 NHRA Supercharged, Gas class rules in mind and runs a Mooneyham 6:71 Blower with 2 Quick Fuel 750 CFM gas carbs on a 427 cubic inch small block Chevy/Dart block. The trans in a TH 400 with a Coan break, and the rear axel is a Moser 9 with 4:10 Pro gears. The chassis is 2x3 box with chromemoly 12 point cage, Koni coil overs all around with Alston ladder bars and independent front suspension. Current Sponsors are Quick Fuel Technologies located in Bowling Green, KY, Easy Street Race Car Fabrication in Lock Port, IL, and Ray Romito Racing Engines in Frankfort, IL.

Notes: This car was found in storage around 2000 as a rolling chassis (never had engine, trans, wiring, fuel system, etc.) This original steel bodied car was originally built in the mid to late 70's, but wasn't finished until Mullin Motor Sports completed the build with help from Easy Street Race Car Fabrication (chassis builders) located in Lock Port Illinois (708) 362/0269, and Romito Race Engines in Frankfort, Illinois (708) 479/7223, plus a lot of help from friends and family. The car runs in the NDRL - IAM (Nostalgia Drag Racing League) Championship Series events in the Mid-West and others such as the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion in Bowling Green KY. It has been run at Goodguys events at Indianapolis, Norwalk OH, Joliet IL, at the Muscle Car Reunion at Gateway, and with the Mid-West Gassers at Union Grove WI. It was built with 1969 NHRA Supercharged, Gas class rules in mind and runs a Mooneyham 6:71 Blower with 2 Quick Fuel 850 CFM Alky carbs on a 427 cubic inch small block Chevy/Dart block. The trans in a TH 400 with a Coan break, and the rear axle is a Moser 9 with 4:10 Pro gears. The chassis is 2x3 box with chromemoly 12 point cage, Koni coil overs all around with Alston ladder bars and independent front suspension. Current Sponsors are Quick Fuel Technologies located in Bowling Green KY, Easy Street Race Car Fabrication in Lock Port IL, and Ray Romito Racing Engines in Frankfort IL.
