Notes: Bob AKA "Floyd Lippencotte Jr." Muravez was driving Don Johnson's car on January 8 at Irwindale for an eight-car show. He qualified #1 at 7.30/207.34. After an easy first-round win, his 7.44/200.88 in the semifinal barely beat Danny Ongais' slightly quicker,7.43/211. He faced the second qualifier, Mike Snively, driving the "Hawaiian" in the final. The two had a great race that saw Bob's 7.36/214 finish runner-up to Snively's 7.34/212. He then went to Beeline Dragway along with a hundred other Top Fuel drivers to attempt to qualify for the 32-car field for the AHRA Winternationals. His 7.59/168.22 qualified second behind Connie Kalitta's 7.46 Ford. But he was late off the line in the first round, and his 7.70/171.19 lost to Chris Karamesines' 7.77/197. Qualified #8 at Pomona Winters 67 at 7.352/202.24. (Pomona 67 qualifying list confirms that it was in this car and not the Surfers or another car.) In the first round, he went into a wheelstand and shut down against Jim Bollinger. Shortly after that (February 19), he qualified #21 at Bakersfield with a 7.35. Bob fouled away a 7.39/193.96 in the opening round against Nick Marshall, who advanced with a 7.42/210. He also competed at the Stardust National Open. This was a sixteen-car field, and in round one, his 7.28 defeated Mike Snively's 7.35 in the "Hawaiian." His 7.34 in round two lost to Tommy Allen's 7.19, but he got back into the show as the Low ET loser from the previous round when Jim Dunn broke. But even though he had beaten one of the "Hawaiians," the "Hawaiian II" with Mike Sorokin behind the wheel stopped his 7.35 in the semifinal with a 7.28. On March 5, the "Beachcomber" team showed up at Carlsbad for an eight-car show. Twenty-three cars were attempting to make the field, and Muravez's 7.13/206.42 qualified second behind Leroy Goldstein's 7.12/215. But Bob slowed to 7.37 in round one and lost to Danny Ongais' 7.21/201. But Ongais hurt the engine on the pass, and Muravez was once again back into the show on the "break rule." However, he didn't stick around long, as Steve Carbone's 7.21/203 sent Bob's 7.29/218.44 to the showers for good.

Notes: Won Top Gas at 1969 Springnationals. Raced the car as Bob Muravez. The Floyd Lippencotte Jr. moniker was retired. Raced at all four NHRA national events in 1969. Ran 7.81 at Pomona, 7.51 at Springnationals (Dallas), 7.46 at Indy Nationals, 7.56 at World Finals (Dallas). Top Gas was fading in popularity in the late sixties. Cars like this made people stand up in the stands and root for their "driver." The "Freight Train" was a crowd favorite, and it brought some well-needed attention back to the class. Muravez was the first alternate at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with his 7.81/175.56. Bill Smith qualified eighth but broke and was unable to compete. Bob took his place in the field. In the opening round of eliminations, he fouled against Richard Rogers. On March 9, the "Freight Train" was at OCIR for an eight-car show. Unfortunately, his 8.04 failed to qualify for the all-seven second show. He did better the following weekend (March 16) at Riverside for the HRM Championships. It was another eight-car field, and his 7.73 qualified #3. He had a close race against Steve San Paolo in the first round that saw his 7.84 defeat Steve's 7.86. But the car lost fire on the line in the semifinal against Mike Snively. On May 10, OCIR held another Top Gas race. Twenty-one cars showed up to attempt to qualify for the eight-car show. Muravez ran 7.67/200.88 (Top Speed) to qualify #7. In round one, the front engine blew, and he lost to Dick Rosberg. He won the NHRA Division 7 race at Irwindale on May 24. Another win came at Dallas in mid-June for the NHRA Springnationals. He qualified #1 for the sixteen-car field with a 7.60/197.80. Ray Ruettiman fouled against him in the "Gopher State" car, and Bob eased it through with an 8.91 to advance. He improved to 7.51/200.44 (Top Speed) in the second round to beat Mark Pieri. In the semifinal, Rico Paris fell to Bob's 7.54/199.55. He faced Phil Hobbs in the final, and the "Freight Train" was not to be denied, as Muravez ran 7.54/198.67 for the victory over Phil's 7.68/189. Shortly after that (July 5), he went to Lions for an eight-car show. Bob set Low ET in qualifying with a 7.49, but he was shut off on the line with an oil leak in round one.
