Notes: Austin kicked off his NHRA campaign at Gainesville, where he was the second alternate at 6.296 (speed not reported). He lost a close first round to Marvin Schwartz at IHRA Bristol in June, 6.45/220.58 to 6.49/209.80. The team's next NHRA national event was Englishtown, where Austin qualified on the bump at 6.305/200.44. He could not make the first round, so first alternate Schwartz took his place against Jim Bucher. The team qualified #14 at Indy at 6.069/231.36. A consistent 6.082/226.13 beat Herm Petersen's 6.286/221.67 in round one, and another 6.087-219.51 held off Marvin Graham's 6.092/233.16 in round two.
