Notes: On Mar. 6 at Bakersfield, Jazzy won the competition coupe class with 126.76 mph. On Mar. 27 at Pomona, Jazzy took top eliminator with 126.91 mph and A/Competition Coupe class. On Apr. 24 at Pomona, he won the A/CC class with 126.75 mph. At the NHRA regionals at Colton on May 15, Jazzy won the A/CC class with 126.00 mph, a new NHRA record. At Pomona on July 4, Jazzy won the A/FCC with 127.95 mph. On July 31, Colton hosted the Drag Racers, Inc. event. Jazzy competed in the Modified Coupe class, winning it and setting a class record with 135.84 mph. It was the second fastest speed of the meet, only behind Lloyd Scott's "Bustle Bomb." On Aug. 20 at Colton, Jazzy won top eliminator and set a track record in A Competition Coupe with 128.38 mph. It was also the top speed of the meet. A week later, at Colton on Aug. 27, he upped his record mark to 130.43 mph. On Sep. 3, he took top eliminator honors for the third consecutive week, beating the Augar & Martz Vincent C/fuel cycle with 128.73 mph. Earlier in the meet, he ran 130.43 mph. At Colton on Sep. 17, he snagged another top eliminator win with 128.61 mph. It was also the meet's top time. At the NHRA Nationals at Great Bend in October, Jazzy won the A Comp Coupe class with 130.05 mph. He also set a new national record with 132.93 mph. At Pomona on Nov. 13, Jazzy took top eliminator and top time honors with 129.49 mph. He also ran a quick 10.21 seconds. His speed was good enough for a new strip record. On Nov. 25 at the Arizona State Championships at the Perryville airstrip, he won the A/FC class with 129.12, a new class elimination record. Notes: Nelson racked up top fuel eliminator wins all over Southern California in the 1957 season. He debuted the side-by-side motored dragster at Lions on May 19, clocking a promising 11.37 at 125.87 mph. In less than a month, he was consistently running over 140 mph. He ran 142.97 mph at Colton on June 9, 143.54 mph at Bakersfield on July 7, and 142.85 mph at Half Moon Bay on July 28. Along the way, he had some impressive wins. He won the Drag Racers Incorporated race at Colton on June 9 with times of 10.27 and a best speed of 142.57 mph. He was almost unbeatable at Lions or San Fernando. Notes: With the fuel ban in place and widespread among SoCal race tracks, there were only a few locations where fuel cars could race. Bakersfield and Colton were about it.
