Notes: Mark ran 5.985/229.00 at 1982 NHRA Winternationals, but that time was good for the fourth alternate. At the NHRA Gatornationals, his 5.941/241.93 qualified #14. He lost to Shirley Muldowney in the first round, when he shut off to a 9.80. The team qualified #5 at the Cajun Nationals with a 5.882/247.25. Mark lost to Shirley again in round one, 5.83/234 to an 11-second shutoff. That was the team's last NHRA national event this year.

Notes: Mark was the first alternate at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 6.81/204.08. He was at OCIR on March 20 for the NHRA Division 6 opener. He qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car show with a 6.69/205.01. Dave Hansen fouled against him in the opening round, and he made an easy pass to advance. In the semifinal, he ran another 6.69 to beat Bruce McDowell's better 6.61. He faced Al DeBoer in the final, and a 6.73/205.94 got the victory over Al's 6.78/201. Won OCIR WCS 1983.

Notes: Mark was at Firebird Raceway on January 27 for the NHRA Division 6 Opener. He qualified #7 in the eight-car field with a 6.67/205.94. A first-round 6.74/205.47 lost to Dave Hansen's 6.61/205. He failed to qualify at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals, where his 6.66/208.04 best was good for the third alternate. Only one Donovan-powered car qualified at Indy for the NHRA U.S. Nationals, and it wasn't Niver's. Notes: In January, Mark was at the season-opening NHRA Division 7 race at Firebird Raceway. He qualified #5 in the eight-car show with a 6.47/213.27. Unfortunately, this set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Stephen Fedele. Mark ran a consistent 6.49/209.79 in their race, but it wasn't enough to beat Stephen's 6.31/214. Niver had the only Donovan-powered car to make the field at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. His 6.43/212.61 qualified on the "bump" spot on the sixteen-car field. Canadian Ken Murray fouled against him in the first round, and Mark advanced with a shut-off 11.54/67.12. In round two, his 6.51/212.31 beat Chess Bushey's 6.78/203. He met up with Denny Lucas in the semifinals, and his 6.52/198.98 lost to Lucas' 6.36/215. Late in April, he was at Baylands Raceway for the second NHRA Division 7 race. Niver qualified #6 in the sixteen-car field, and while the Donovan engine was fading fast from the scene, two qualified for this race. Both lost in round one.
