Notes: Oglesby was at Darlington attempting to qualify for the eight-car field for the IHRA Winternationals. His 7.83/205 best was good for the first alternate. He got into the show when #8 qualifier Murf McKinney had some problems and could not race. Frank took his place in the show and nearly pulled off the upset. In the opening round, Oglesby's 6.96/211 beat Bob Gottschalk's 7.18. A semifinal 6.60/218 beat Denny Savage's 6.59/218. He went up against Dale Pulde in the final. It wasn't much of a race between the two as while Frank was slipping and sliding to 12.39/65, Dale was winning with a Low ET and Top Speed blast of 6.35/229. At the AHRA Ozark Nationals, Frank's 7.34/172.08 qualified on the "bump" for the eight-car field. He improved to a 6.95/197 in the first round, but it wasn't enough to get past John Collins, who beat him with a 6.87/191. Shortly after that (July 23), he was at Milan Dragway for the IHRA Northern Nationals. Unfortunately, his 6.62 best (first alternate) failed to qualify for the eight-car with a 6.59 "bump." Frank was in Atlanta in October for the IHRA Winston Nationals. He lost to eventual winner Pete Williams driving the "Chi-Town Hustler" in the first round. Frank did not race in any NHRA national events in 1975. We need confirmation of the 6.40/238 times. | Spring 1977 SS&DI: John H. Johnson Jr., son of Ebony Magazine Publisher John Johnson, temporarily threw in with Oglesby on his car. No national tour or even updating the car, probably local expenses, but this is still a highly unlikely venture. I saw a picture of the car. - Joe Moore

Notes: Frank attempted to qualify at NHRA Gainesville but was the final DNQ (times unavailable). In April, he also failed to qualify at Rockingham for the IHRA Pro-Am Championships. He was at Englishtown on May 4 for the NHRA Division 1 opener. His 6.31/222.22 qualified #3 for the eight-car field, but he broke against Bruce Larson in the opening round. Frank was a DNQ at the PHR event in 1980 at 11.44 seconds. Frank used comp number 109 while in the Mello Yello car. His normal comp number was 232. 109 could have been an IHRA number?

Notes: Paul Ohno shared driving duties with Gonzalez. At San Fernando on Mar. 8, they won the A/MR class with 12.58 at a new track record speed of 108.69 mph. In the third round of eliminations, they beat the Baber-Engle-Wright flathead B/D with a winning time of 11.82 at 129.29 mph. They lost in the fourth round to Dick Guyette's blown Olds A/D. At San Gabriel on Aug. 1, they won the A/MR class with 11.59 at 127.65 mph. They got beat by Dye's Auto Coupe in the first round of Little Eliminator eliminations. The next day at San Fernando on Aug. 2, they won the A/MR class with 10.32 at 129.49 mph. Their 10.32 time was good for a new Drag News 1320 national record. They unfortunately lost in the final round of top eliminator to Johnson & King's C/D. At San Fernando on Sep. 6, they took a class win with 10.51 at 133.33 mph. Unfortunately, they damaged their gearbox on that run and couldn't compete for top eliminator. At San Gabriel on Sep. 19, they took a class win with 10.70 at 132.35 mph. They developed engine trouble after the class victory and were unable to run for top eliminator. On Sep. 26 at San Gabriel, they swapped out their engine for the motor that Ratican-Jackson-Stearns owned. Paul Ohno took a class win with 137.33 mph. He took a solo run for a top eliminator victory with a 10.74 at 138.67 mph run. That bumped up the old track record from 127.00 mph to 138.67 mph. The next day at San Fernando on Sep. 27, they took a class win with 10.32 at 140.18 mph. That speed was a new track record for A/MR, and their 10.32 tied the ET record, which they already held jointly with Chet Martin. Unfortunately engine trouble sidelined them from further running for top eliminator. At San Gabriel on Oct. 3, they took a class win with 12.25 at 66.00 mph. The next week at Lions on Oct. 10, they lost in eliminations to Jack Chrisman's Sidewinder. They still ran a respectable 10.62 at 138.88 mph. On Oct. 11 at San Fernando, they won a class trophy with 126.58 mph. At Riverside on Oct. 17-18, they won the A/MR class with 10.69 at 131.96 mph. Notes: Kenji started the season by pushing Jim Dunn's car to a 5.25/278.46 to qualify #10 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals. Unfortunately, both he and Tom Hoover smoked the tires in the first round, with Hoover's 8.45/150 beating Okazaki's shut off 11.42/73.87. At the NHRA Motorcraft Nationals in Arizona, a 5.29/280.46 qualified #9. He beat Whit Bazemore in the first round, with a 5.30/268.09, but an even better 5.27/267.05 in round two, lost to eventual winner Cruz Pedregon's 5.13/289. The NHRA Supernationals at Houston was not a good outing for Dunn and Okazaki. They qualified #8 with a 5.30/267.45. Kenji went back out to try to better his time and had a motor blow. The resulting fire destroyed the body, and they were unable to continue in the eliminations. The team was unable to repair in time for the NHRA Gatornationals, but they were back in action at Atlanta for the NHRA Southern Nationals in April. Unfortunately, a best of 6.16/155.44 failed to qualify. Kenji qualified at Memphis for the NHRA Mid-South Nationals in May. His 5.43/261.62 qualified #9. More bad luck set in when he broke in the first round, against Gordon Mineo. The next race was the Mopar Parts Nationals at Englishtown. Kenji ran 5.27/262.92 to qualify #10. A 5.23/269.13 advanced past the first round when Bazemore broke(?). He lost to Chuck Etchells in round two.

Del Worsham broke against him in round two, and Okazaki lost his second engine of the weekend with a 5.94/179.39. He lost to eventual winner K.C. Spurlock's 5.40/260.
