Notes: John was at Englishtown on May 5 for the NHRA Division 1 Opener. A 6.68/209.79 qualified #6 in the eight-car field, and a 6.84/205.47 beat John Samolyk. Unfortunately, he broke in the semifinals against eventual winner Bob Newberry. He did not go to the second Division 1 race in Canada, but he was at Maryland International for the third Division 1 race. There, he qualified #3 with a 6.671/207.13. A 6.77/205.94 advanced past Tod Mack, who broke, but in the semifinals, his 6.74/205.01 lost to Newberry's 6.45/217. On September 29, he was at Moroso Motorsports Park for the final NHRA Division 2 race. His 6.78/210.77 qualified #3, and he improved to 6.67/208.81 in the opening round to beat John Lukens. In the semifinal, his 6.69/208.81 fell to Terry Mullins' quick-leaving 6.76/184. John was the runner-up to Bunny Burkett at the Delmar King of Kings event with a 7.08/210. At the KMart/Polaroid US All Pro Funny Car Championships at Englishtown 9/22/85, John ran Bunny Burkett in Round 1 where John ran 6.58/208.33 to Bunny's losing 6.67/211.26. Then, in the consolation round, he raced Tod Mack. Tod ran his best of the day at 6.81/214.28 but lost to John's 6.55/213.52. If anyone knows any better numbers for John in 1985, it would be appreciated. - Rob McCabe |

Notes: John was at Maple Grove in June for the third NHRA Division 1 race. He qualified #5 in the eight-car field with a 6.45/214.79. This set up a first-round meeting with low qualifier Dick Bell. Paris pushed the tree a little too hard and fouled away a 6.47/213.27 while Bell advanced with a 6.44/216. He was back at Maple Grove in mid-September for the NHRA Keystone Nationals. It was an eight-car field, and he was the first alternate at 6.42/215.41. Original pre-Internet draglist entry. Listed times from The Drag Racing List, December 86/January 87, Volume 1, Number 9, were 6.426/219.51. Was the ET the Maple Grove time? Photo from Suffolk, Virginia, 1986. | NHRA D2 Suffolk VA 1986 |

Notes: Basic car debuted in 1964 as a blown fuel altered Fiat. The chassis and motor were retained for years, with year to year refinements being made. Fiberglass Bantam replaced all steel Fiat. car ran 7.60s at near 200. Car was competitive, but got little recognition. |

Notes: AKA Poor Boys. Rico qualified #4 at Pomona for the NHRA Winternationals with a 7.81/187.88. A 7.95/189.06 beat Mark Pieri's 8.05/191 in the first round, but he fouled against the eventual winner Gordon Collett in round two. He won the Bakersfield March Meet, where he set Low ET at 7.59 and got around a fouling Bob Keith in the final. - RH | In '68, the Paris Bros. also took Top Gas in meets at Long Beach and San Fernando, Cal. - RT |
